I did it!! I did it!! - Its in the mail .....

ediep wrote: I have been struggling with the decision to go back to work or not in September..I really love teaching but I don't want to leave Jason. I have been on Maternity/Infant care leave for 2 years. I could have asked for another year extension on my leave, but then where would I be in a year from now....maybe still not ready to return to work or maybe even pregnant. I don't think it would be fair to my principal to continue putting off the decision.

The money isn't an issue right now, Dh makes enough for us to live comfortably and even save some. My school is about 30 miles from my house, but it is a major commute.....tons of traffic. It used to take me an hour or more each way. I was starting to feel stressed just imagining what it would be like....getting up and ready, feeding Jay, commuting an hour, leaving him, working all day, picking up Jay, ccommuting another hour home, making dinner, getting Jay to bed, grading papers, wringing lesson plans.....when do I have fun, when do i play with Jason?

After talking about this decision with DH, family, and Friends I decided that I would resign from my job. I have my degree, I could always get another job closer to home later, when Jason is older.

Sooooooooo, I am an official SAHM!!!

mommytosammy replied: good for you. I know teaching is such a rewarding career. many friends i have are teachers.

You made the right choice for your circumstances. thumb.gif

DansMom replied: That is FABULOUS! It sounds like the right decision for your family in so many ways. Jason will have a great childhood and you will be a relaxed mom. Take it from someone who has to work full time and go home to make dinner. I live 2 miles from work and don't have any work-related stuff to do at night, and I still feel overwhelmed and resentful of my overfull schedule and lack of rest and family time. We're lucky that DH gets to stay home, so Daniel does have a SAHD, but I am missing out and I don't feel fulfilled at work or at home because I can't give either area my full attention. It really stinks.

That's just me of course---some people really need their work to feel whole or they are able to work part time and that's ideal. It sounds like you are fulfilled being a mom full time. Teaching is something you can return to farther down the road if it seems right. Congratulations!! thumb.gif

MommyToAshley replied: That's wonderful! thumb.gif Congratulations. I know it must have been a tough decision, but it sounds like you put a lot of thought into it. I love being home with Ashley and I wouldn't give it up for anything!!! I admit that sometimes I miss seeing adults on a daily basis, but the sacrifice is sooo worth it. Jason will only be small once.

And, like you said, you could always return to teaching later. Or maybe you could sub occasionally (I am not sure how that works).

CONGRATS again!

MilMunchMOM replied: congratulations!!! I KNOW it was a tough decision. I just had to do the same thing!! Being in the military it's expected that you devote 110% to gain any sort of promotions or advancements. After having my children i was no longer able to devote the time. I always felt torn for the 4 yrs that i continued to work, but financially had no choice. We will be struggling now as well but to pay for three kids in daycare is insane and we would have been struggling anyway.

I never thought i would be calling myself a SAHM. laugh.gif
