I can't believe we are here already. - birds and the bees.
PrairieMom wrote: ben (who is 5 1/2 ) is getting curious. He has asked 3 times now and I have distracted him 3 times now. I won't be able to do it much longer tho. so, the first time we were out shopping, and Al said she wanted to be a daddy when she grows up. Well... he says, " you are a girl, you can't be a daddy. you have to be a mommy to have a baby" I said, " yup, God made it so only Mommies can have babies." he said, " How DO you do that anyway?!?!" um... then I distracted him with something shiny.
the second time we were in the car and Al had her baby doll and I said that she was being a good mommy. Ben said, " only girls can be mommys huh? : Me: yup. Ben" how do daddies get babies? " me : "they marry mommies" change the subject... change the subject...
So last night he brings me this book about hospitals to read. we get 1/2 way through and they talk about how babies are born in the hospital. So, he askes, how do the babies get out? me: what?" ( stalling for time...) Ben: "how do babies get out?" me:"well, when the baby gets big enough, the mommy goes to the hospital and the dr. helps her get it out" Ben:" but where does it come out from?" me: the mommy pushes it out" Ben:'" but where does it come out? there is no space"
just then my inlaws called us. Whew! saved by the bell! Hey Ben! wanna talk to grandma?!?!?!
I am SO not ready for this. Every time I give him a little he wants more. I have to get my story straight, It won't be long.
lisar replied: I tell Lexi the truth. They cut me open "here see my scar where they cut me".
Its an easy one for me. And I am telling the truth.
Good luck though
momofone replied: Last nite my DD was watching Jon & Kate plus 8 and the son is getting married and was talking about not having s*x before being married. I am glad she didn't ask what it was.
When she ask me where babies come from I say God for now.
PrairieMom replied: I just want to give him information as he can handle and process it. I'm totally going to be honest, but I'm not sure how much he really needs to know. ya know? plus, I don't have a scar... I wasn't planning on having to do this for another couple of years, I was kind of blind sided.
CantWait replied: I always told the truth, from mommy's privates. I think that usually was all that was needed.
TheOaf66 replied: oh that would never work for Tanner
lisar replied: oh if it wasnt for the scar i dont know what i would tell her. I dont think i could tell her the real truth yet.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Me too! I say they gave me a zipper. The other day she asked if all mommies have to get a zipper tho I am not ready for this either and Tay is lots older than Ben!
boyohboyohboy replied: I dont know tara, I can still distract my husband when he asks things I dont want to deal with..with shiney things, and changing the subject or ask him to clean something.. you might have some stall time left!!!
MommyToAshley replied: I try to tell the truth the best I can without going into detail they don't need at this age. Although, when Ashley was in preschool she asked about why boys privates were different and I got a book from the library that explained it on a preschool level. It talked about having babies in that book too, so I am assuming that answered her questions and she hasn't really asked since then.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Do you mean the Duggar's? I thought John and Kate's children were all a bit too young to get married.
Tara, Tanner is just as curious. ESPECIALLY when I was pregnant with Aiden. I think at his age he wont understand the 'real' birds and bees yet so I try to keep it simple. I really don't mind being truthful with him, but I think there is a right age to really explain everything in detail...and it certianly isn't 6, IMO.
momofone replied: Yes sorry i meant the duggars i think the son is either 19 or 20. i was surprised they were talking about it on a family show.
coasterqueen replied: Oh boy! I know I'm not ready for these talks either and the girls ask ALL the time. Kylie knows that they cut mommy's "tummy" open to get her out and that Megan did not have to be cut out. She's yet to ask where Megan came out of. We, too, try to dance around all the details the best we can at this age. They do know that they can't marry daddy, that it has to be some other boy.
ZandersMama replied: zan tells everyone he came out of mommys peepee and his brother came out of my booboo. lol. he hasnt asked for any explanation and he came up with that on his own so im sticking with it for now.
luvbug00 replied:
MWAHHH HAAA HAAAA HAAA
I'd tell him the truth.
Crystalina replied: It's no wonder kids question things so early anymore. All the trash on t.v. Heck, they can't sell anything at all without adding sex into it. And! I am SO tired of talking loud or making some sort of commotion every time one of those dang KY commercials come on. DH thinks I have tarrets (I know that isn't even close to how that's supposed to be spelled ).
kimberley replied: love the diversions mommy!! hahaha
it was different for each kid for me. Jacob was always the most curious and persistent. he actually watched a midwife birthing tape with me around that age. it wasn't very graphic but he got the idea.
want me to put you on speed dial for the next borage of questions? lol
A&A'smommy replied: ahhhh don't you hate it Alyssa asked how babies came out earlier this week also I told her that mommies go to the doctor and the doctor gets it out and then we changed the subject She also told me that she wants me to get another baby in my belly I told her I was sorry it wasn't happening
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin has asked a few questions and I try and keep it simple about where babies come from, that one I dont mind so much. I am more worried when she starts asking how they get in the belly and how daddy is the daddy...ect. She knows where they are supposed to come out of and that she was cut out, she appoligies for the scar and the strech markes. I thank her and tell her I dont care she was worth it.
