I am so PO'd right now - Long vent
My2Beauties wrote: I am so fed up with my boss that I am going to go cuckoo Ok back in December she sent us an e-mail to the entire group as to what days we know for a fact we needed off for 2005. So I immediately sent her a response with obviously two days before my wedding, my honeymoon week, my birthday, and Oaks (Oaks is the day before the Kentucky Derby, it's just as big of a party as Derby)! It's a big deal here! Anyways, she comes back and the only days I got was the ones for my wedding and the same lady beat me out of Oaks and MY BIRTHDAY!!!! She beat me out of my birthday last year as well! This seniority crap is for the birds when it comes to letting that person have every other day you requested off. I'm sorry I am so livid right now. So three weeks ago I wrote her an e-mail and said she is a processor, I am on the phones, I see no point in not allowing one processor and one phone person off, since neither one of our jobs affects the other, she said you're third inline for this day off, you may get to leave early if we're not busy! OK #1 that is a problem, you have to get there early I mean 6 am to get a seat, it costs anywhere between $25-50 to park around there so we always get someone to drop us off, my dad is coming in town and cousins so we have tons of people going, staying at MY house!! If I were to leave work, I would have to go home and change, drive there, pay $50 to park and then find them, you can't get signals on cell phones there because there's too many people! I'm so mad because this same person has beat me out of every single day that I wanted off aside from my wedding, after June I have no other vacation planned Every day that I asked for I couldn't get, even my own freaking birthday! She asks for the week of my birthday every year becuause she goes out of town to Gatlinburg so I'm stuck here working on my b'day, and the Oaks, this p's me off because I go every year, it's a tradition and my family is coming from everywhere and she is telling me no because only one other person in our department is off, and out job have nothing to do with each other, it would be different if another person was off the phones, but I would be the only phone person gone! I wrote her sort of a nasty e-mail back voicing my concern that I feel I am being treated unfairly in this situation because I haven't been here as long. Last year one lady got off 10 days in a row for Christmas and no one else got off, this year everyone requested the same days but she has the most seniority so I am waiting to see what happens. 10 days, people who only requested one or two days didn't get anything I so hate working here!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: That sucks. I would be mad too. I think a cough will be comming on all week before both events
JAYMESMOM replied: I am sorry!!! I know what you mean about certain people being favored. It's not fair. When I was managing - someone could not have off the same time two years in a row. So that lady would be out of luck. Hopefully your boss will change her mind or you can always call in sick. I am sure you could get your docter to right a note. Migraine, flu, etc. I know that would make me mad to not be able to spend time with my family.
Hopefully it will work out!!!!!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: so let me se if I got this right when you ask for time off if one other person also wants the same day no matter there position you can have it off?
if thats the case SO FRICKEN STUPID
I am sorry you have to deal with this, maybe time to start looking for a new job or clal in sick for the durby, I am always working on my b-day so that day to me is no biggie
good luck
My2Beauties replied: Yeah I"m not as worried about my b'day as I am about the Oaks! I mean I can celebrate my b'day over the weekend, but the Oaks is always on a Friday! Nomatter what! Nomatter what day you ask for, if someone who has been here longer asks for that same day (even if they ask every year for that same day) they get it! That is not right, I am going to go to her manager if she doesn't give me the day off!
GavinsMommy replied: Wow, that really sucks! What do you do??? I'd be really mad that Gatlinburg lady gets off every time so she can go on a trip and you don't get off for your birthday once!
~KARA~ replied: WOW that sucks!! if they wont give you teh days off an you call off?? Like fake sick or something or will it be held against you?
Kaitlin'smom replied: that is so dumb
I hope you get the day off for the oaks
My2Beauties replied: To be honest it probably would be held against me, but it's almost worth it to prove a point! I would only get a written or verbal warning and since I am a good employee, I would only be on probation for maybe 90 days then it would be null and void so I have thought about this!
ammommy replied: **cough cough** I feel a cold coming on starting, say, Thursday. That way it won't be so obvious
gr33n3y3z replied: well you can always call in sick
mom21kid2dogs replied: We had minimum coverage policies where I worked, too. Because there were so many experienced people on our team (I had 22 years when I left and I had third senority ) we devised a way to try to accomodate our younger staff, especially around holidays. We sumbitted in Dec for what we thought we'd want off to our supervisor. She then went around to individual staff on high need days and everyone tried to work out an equitable schedule BEFORE the real time off requests were submitted. It really went a long way in keeping peace among the team as most everyone did some giving and some taking after hearing why someone wanted/needed a particular day off. Any way your supervisor would be open to trying something similar?
mammag replied: I don't see how they can put you on probabtion with a dr's note (my goodness this sounds like school stuff ). I'd take the dock in pay and do it anyway to be honest. That is a really bad policy. I can't believe the Christmas thing! Good Grief!
JessC replied: i would seriously be po'd too. Talk to your boss about her taking this same week off everytime. I would be sooo mad too. Where do you work if you feel like sharing? Or seriously if you really can't get the days off you want... I would put in my notice. If it is worth it that is. Im sure you could find a much better job with people understanding your needs. They almost seem like they are trying to purposely make you mad and that is no good!
PS: Where is the thumbs down icon!? lol.
aspenblue1 replied: As far as dr notes go not all employeers accept them. I know mine does not accept dr notes at all. We have the same issues at my work we have to decide all the days we want off in dec for the next year and it is all based on seniority also. It drives me nuts.
My2Beauties replied: I work for a major health insurance company who doesn't give a poo that you have a personal life outside of work! Hopefully she responds to my e-mail within a reasonable time - ie tomorrow! If not, I am going to her boss - who is much more understanding when it comes to these issues!
