I am really starting to worry about Tanner

TANNER'S MOM wrote: He has been sleeping so much. At first I thought it was the stress of the move and new school. But now I am really wondering. He has been falling asleep on the couch at about 7:30 every night. Just eating supper, doing homework, starting to relax for the night, and he is out. He hasn't made it to his 9 oclock bed time since we moved. He usually one of those kids that prolongs bed time. I asked Dh about it, and he said he just thinks it's a new routine. But he gets up at the same time for school so that hasn't changed at all. I think I will watch it a bit more this week and then if he is still so tired I will schedule a doctors appointment. But to be honest my mind is running wild. He has always been a child who could go to bed at midnight and get up at 6 in the morning even on a Saturday. It's just not normal.

sparkys2boys replied: It might be just getting settled in.. it may of just hit him now.. kwim.. kinda like a let down sort of thing. I would just keep on eye on it and if it gets worse then take him to the doctor. How old is he again Mel? Maybe it's puberty? I Know they say kids can get very tired like that when they are having a growth spurt to?

TrulyBlessed replied: Hello, I'm new here, so I haven't gotten that chance to know everyone yet. How old is Tanner? If he is a younger child I would think maybe he is just going through a growth spurt. If he is older, I would be more concerned about depression and I think it is called Mono? The sleeping sickness? I don't know if I have the right name, but my sister got that awhile ago and my mom had to take her in because it lasted a long time.

mckayleesmom replied: Mel...when I was in jr high school....I had the same symptoms....I would go to school, come home and sleep and my mom would drag me to the table for dinner...then back to bed....Same routine everyday for a while and my mom finally took me in and I had Mono....Maybe you should have him checked.

mom21kid2dogs replied: I was going to mention a growth spurt, too. They can really do a number on kids. The other thing is to see how thinghs are going at school. I know our public schools are in freak out mode because standardized tests begin in 40 days. They are super charging what they are doing in the classroom. If this is the case in Tanner's school he might be worn out mentally from the stepped up pace. That one really does a number on O, I know even though she's a highly energentic child, normally.

Hope you get it figured out, Mel. thumb.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: Tanner is 9 he will be 10 in April. Maybe it is a growth spurt. I hope not b/c clothes are expensive and he is almost as tall as me. He is taller than his 17 year old teacher by an inch..lol

He hasn't acted sick just tired. I guess I will watch it and see what I think. I just hate it when things aren't normal.lol

luvmykids replied: I hope he feels better soon! KUP hug.gif hug.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I have no idea, Mel. I think it's possible for a growth spurt. Please let us know what the dr says. hug.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I was thinking growth spurt too. I know his work (math at least emlaugh.gif ) has been a little harder maybe he is just worn out! Maybe the new house is not familiar and even though he is sleeping early once it is quiet he may not be sleeping as well.... I bet he bounces back soon! hug.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sounds like a growth spurt. Or just coping with the transition of the move. Maybe have the doc check his iron levels. Does he take a multi, this may help.

CantWait replied: Hope he feels better soon Mel. KUP hug.gif hug.gif

moped replied: Might sound silly, but could he be going through a growth spurt? I heard kids can do that and sleep more because their muscles are sore

A&A'smommy replied: I would watch him and if he kept it up I would take him to the dr hug.gif hug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: It could be a combination of things.. the transition, growth spurt, and all the extra work at school. I know whenever I started a new school, routine, or even job, I was worn out for the first few weeks. Even if it isn't a change in his schedule as far as what time he gets up, it's still a transition.

I think it's good that you are keeping an eye on him.... it never hurts to have him checked out just for your own peace of mind.

Keep us posted.

P.S. It's great to see you back here. hug.gif hug.gif
