coasterqueen replied: Good luck! I have quit before, but this last time was IT for me! It has been 2 years since I last had a cigarette!!! YAY!
You CAN do it!

DansMom replied: Best of luck to you! I successfully quit 6 years ago after smoking for 18 years. Of course I had plenty of failed attempts to quit in that 18 years. What helped me was to feel all of my ugly feelings rather than try to suppress them. Smoking helps you to suppress anxiety, so really you have to get used to feeling anxiety and breathing through the anxious feeling. The monsters will come after you after a day or two---face them head on!! You can do it. They do go away eventually.
The night before I quit I smoked a whole pack of cigarettes. I wanted to feel really lousy the next morning and realize how gross smoking is in order to maintain my resolve. Sure enough, I awoke with a splitting headache and the feeling that my lungs had been strip-mined. It really worked to get me started---I did not want a cigarette that first day at all. Of course, the second day and the next two weeks were the hardest part. Get through that and you're well on your way to forgetting you ever smoked. Every now and then I smell smoke and get a craving, or feel anxiety and get a craving, but mostly I don't remember it. I also have dreams in which I am smoking now and then---a lot of dreams in that first year, but they've tapered off.
You can do it!!!

Good luck... I think that is one of the greastest things you can do for yourself! I hope you succeed, and if you feel like a puff, then pop on here and we will give you all the support we can.
It won't be easy (My DH quit a few years ago) but it will be worth the struggle in the end.
A&A'smommy replied: GOOD LUCK!!!! quiting is hard the only thing that could make me quite was getting pg and even then it was hard!! so big time good luck!!!
MomofTay&Sam replied: Good Luck!!! I know you can do it.
jen replied: Good Luck! You can do it just think of the positives of not smoking: 1. your hair and skin will look healthier, 2. you won't smell like smoke 3. you won't have to stand out in the freezing cold to have a cigarette 4. you won't wake up with weak lungs 4. your car won't smell (i hated that). I quit when I found out I was pregnant just threw them out and never looked at them again. I can't see myself never smoking again and that is a problem but I know as time goes by I will eventually forget about it. All of my friends smoke. My mom and dad smoke, my sister, my aunt and at every function they are all smoking, ALL OF THEM, so it isn't going to be easy, but you just take it one day at a time. For me it was definitely a social addiction more than a physical one, don't get me wrong I had cravings at first but I was so overwhelmed with the excitement of being pregnant I didn't even think about having one and now it has been so long that I know it would be stupid to go back to it after I have her! I wish you all the strength and when you have a craving POST and we will talk you out of it . My parents are fixing to try Smoke Away, I hope it works for them, my mom really wants to quit before Maddy is born but my dad Loves smoking............i don't think he will quit but I am hoping.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: YAY!!! Good for you!! I wish you all the luck in the world! I am not a smoker, neither is DH, but Congrats to all of you who have quit. That should really be an inspiration to those who try so hard. I know you can do it!
natjasem replied: Thank God! More fresh air in the world!
amynicole21 replied: I'm trying to quit myself! Brought some nicorette to work today, and have one cigarette left in the pack. We'll see how it goes... I've quit so many times before, just to start back up a year or so later. Good luck to you - I know how hard it's going to be.
~CrazieMama~ replied: Good Luck!!!! Think of all the money you will save!!!! I quit smoking Jan. 2 2002. I have been smoke free since then. I know you can do it, but only if you really want to. I can say for sure that you have to keep your mind elsewhere. Try getting involved in an activity or hobby. Keeping your hands busy that first week or so is a major part in kicking the habit. Think positive and keep busy. I know you can do it!!!!
