I am glad DH was driving....

MommyToAshley wrote: I picked Ashley up from school and the roads were fine. About an hour later, we were leaving to go to a Girl Scout function (a pizza party and then Christmas Caroling at a retirement home). As soon as DH pulled out on the road, he slid a little. We thought it was just the back roads, but the main roads were the same way. It looked like the roads were wet, but they were a solid sheet of ice. Luckily we were in the Pathfinder and didn't have too much trouble, but there were tons of cars having problems and sliding off the road and/or into each other. The cars weren't going fast and they were sliding down the hill and off the road. We decided to turn around and go back home, and then we got the call that everything was cancelled. The thing that scared me the most was an oil tanker pulled out in front of us on the way home and there was a car beside us that couldn't stay on the road. It kept sliding into the curb. DH did a great job of getting us home safely, I would have been a nervous wreck!

Mommy2Isabella replied: hug.gif Glad everyone is home safely .. Icy roads can be a scary sight, just reading your post gave me knots in my belly!!

mom21kid2dogs replied: It got a little dicey here, today, too! We got 2" of snow around 1:30 with some freezing drizzle on top of that. Yucky!! Of course, I was at the outermost school in the county. rolleyes.gif It took about 30 minutes to make my normally 17 minute drive.
So glad you were OK! I always get much more nervous when I'm the passenger in those kind of conditions rather than the driver. My inner control freak must come out then!! laugh.gif

luvmykids replied:
LOL! I have the same problem!

I don't really like driving in that stuff but handle it much better than riding.

I'm glad you all made it back home safe and sound hug.gif

Brias3 replied: Glad you made it home safe!

The roads by us were a mess too. I had a doctor's appointment in the city (about 25 miles away) and it took me over 2 hours to get home wacko.gif

I hate driving in slippery conditions- what makes me nervous is the people around me and wondering if they are going to stop, or slide right into me!!

MommyToAshley replied:
That's what made me so nervous, especially since Ashley was in the car with us. I think we were on the roads at the worst possible time, before the salt trucks got out. I hear the main roads are better now. I just watched the news, and there were a total of 10 car accidents in an 8 block area within 2-1/2 hours right where we were before we decided to turn around and go back home. I am assuming those are just the cars that hit each other because we saw more than that slide off the road.

MoonMama replied: OMG, how scary! ohmy.gif Glad you are home safe and sound! hug.gif hug.gif

CantWait replied: ohmy.gif wow glad you guys decided to turn around, and you're home safe.

lisar replied: OMG. I am glad yall are all okay. There is no way I would have been able to drive

Kaitlin'smom replied: ya the roads were fun (NOT) it took me 1.5 hours for a normal 25 minute drive home sad.gif it was not fun. I only slid trying to go up my driveway. wacko.gif I hate driving so slow, I mean for 1 hour going 5-10mph at the most! I dont mind slowing down when the weather is bad but dang that was driving me crazy.

glad you got home ok and good driving Rod! biggrin.gif

BAC'sMom replied: Glad you made it home safely! hug.gif
