I am an AWFUL mother

Mom2Boyz wrote: I cannot believe I let this happen!!! bawling.gif bawling.gif Yesterday morning, Conner and I were sitting on the couch. He had just finished eating, and he was laying there talking and playing with me, when all of a sudden he pushed with both of his legs and scooted himself right off the edge of the couch!!!!!! bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif
He's fine, and he only cried for a second, but I was bawling for an hour. I just can't believe I did this. I'm suppose to be the one who protects him from getting hurt, and I was right there let him fall. I just feel horrible bawling.gif bawling.gif

Please Please Please tell me someone else has done something similar.

kit kats mom replied: Awww, you aren't an awful mom. My DD rolled off of our 3.5 foot tall bed!
I think most everyone hashad it happen but it usually only happens once. I know how scary that is. Hugs

5littleladies replied: Don't feel bad!! Things like that happen all the time! We were playing with Maddie on our bed once when she was 3 and she fell off the bed. She cried for 2 hours before we finally decided to take her to the clinic. They told us she had dislocated a bone in her elbow. ohmy.gif I felt awful-I let her fall off the bed and I let her cry for hours before we found out what was wrong. sad.gif Accidents happen. You're not a bad mommy!! grouphug.gif

kimberley replied: aww sweetie, don`t feel bad. it happens to all of us, you are certainly not alone and not at all a bad mom. this actually happened to us less than 2 weeks ago. i was lying on the couch feeding Jade and she fell asleep on the inside of the couch. Jamie was there watching tv so i just put a pillow beside her and came on the puter. i heard a thud and jumped up as she started to scream. she landed face first bawling.gif bawling.gif Jamie had fallen asleep and i guess she was scooting in her sleep. she was okay but i was sobbing for hours. Jamie and I are still really shaken about it. (((hugs))) to you and Conner.

DansMom replied: Daniel managed to launch himself off the couch when he was an infant. I had him surrounded by cushions and was within earshot of him, doing dishes. He must have somehow kicked and wriggled in a most amazing way, because he wasn't even close to rolling-age at the time, he still was at an age where he slept a lot, and I thought he was well enclosed. I was wrong. Same thing, he cried for only about 30 seconds, but I was mortified for a long time and still wince when I think about it. I called the on-call pediatrician at our local hospital, who reassured me that he would likely be fine after hearing my story. You are not a bad mom! Weird stuff like that happens to every one of us---and more than once.

aspenblue1 replied: Isabella has managed to fall off the couch and recently flip off the porch. You are definately not a bad mommy accidents happen. I know I feel so guilty everytime something happens to Isabella.

3_call_me_mama replied: When Cameron was 4 months old he would wake all the time at night, DH use to sit with him propped on his legs with his knees up and cameron facing him . Well one night it was liek 3 am and he had been awake for about 2 hours and he kinda rolled and flipped at the same time and fell off DH's legs and our bed adn landed on our hardwood floors ohmy.gif Needless to say Dh felt HORRIBLE!! he wouldn't hold him for like 3 days because he was afraid tha the had given him brain damage and felt that he would drop him again. Cameron was fine, and stopped cryingalmost instantly, not a scratch on him. Our pediatrician said that almost every baby gets dropped once or twice...... some more than others.

Elle replied: Oh, honey, you can be every second of your life looking at your baby and he'll still get hurt in one way or another. Kids tend to suffer accidents, you don't have to blame yourself for that. You can take all the precautions, but he won't be 100% safe. You're doing the best you can, you're a human and you can't control everything going on around your baby.
The first time this happened to me I felt like a criminal, dreadful mom, that I didn't deserve a baby... Well, a lot of bad thoughts about myself crossed my mind. Alexis fell off her high chair when she was about 6 mos. old... Right there in front of my face. It happened so fast I couldn't do anything to avoid the accident.
All my children had suffered accidents, and even now I blame myself for not taking good care of them. But deep inside I know that I couldn't possibly have done anything. So don't blame yourself, these things happen a lot! And kids recover really fast most of the time! wavey.gif

pinka_star replied: You're not a bad Mother at all. Accidents do happen. Emma has fallen and bruised herself more then once. I know how you feel.

Kaitlin'smom replied: your are not a bad mommy, accidents will happen, Kaitlin fell off the couch well twice now and both times on her bum, I felt terrible and she was more shocked than anything, and only cried for a minute or two, but I felt horrible for hours. so you are deffinatly no the only one.

A&A'smommy replied: OMG when alyssa was about 2months old i was holding her on my knees on the bed i moved my hands for like two seconds and she fell off my lap, It didn't hurt her it just scared her, I CRIED AND CRIED! He is fine babies are SO tough, its surprising how tough they are, Alyssa doesnt even cry very long at her shots now!You are NOT a bad mother, you sound like a WONDERFUL mother to me!!!!! (((((BIG HUGS))))

mummy2girls replied: Oh dont feel bad! I sat jenna on my parents couch when she was 8 months old and walked away...DUH! and as my dad and myself was walking back inot where jenna was my dad caught jenna tumbling off the couch and leaped over the back of the couch to catch her and he actually did.WOW!

and at work jenna fell down a small flight of steps...5 steps.UGH! It happens dont worry.

2tikes_tootired replied: Hey, I gotcha all beat! I dropped both my kids at once, Well, ACTUALLY, I was at church, trying to go down a BIG flight of cement stairs. I was carrying Corky in a baby carrier and holding Mikeys hand . A kid ran past me, TRIPPED me and my son started falling first, as instinct I went to grab him, but the carrier with Corky inside, slipped from my hand. It actually SLID all the way down the flight of stairs landing upright and SHE didn't have a scratch, Mikey got a bruise on his knee and I sprained an ankle. But I think my nerves were on overdrive for a month after that. Plus I was too embarressed to go back back to church for a month. And I let my husband have it for not going to church with me that day and leaving me to do it all.

coasterqueen replied: Well, if you are a bad mommy, I'll join the club with you. laugh.gif We've all done this. Kylie has fallen off the couch many times when I wasn't watching closely enough. She even fell out of her stroller one time because I didn't buckle her in blush.gif

Mom2Boyz replied: wub.gif wub.gif Thanks!!! You guys are great!!! wub.gif wub.gif
I hate that all of our little ones have gotten dropped, or fell or whatever, but it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one.
