Hybrid or Regular Car
MyLilAngel wrote: Which do you prefer and why? I honestly prefer the Hybrid cars because when one passes me on the street when I'm walking, I don't have to choke off the fumes from the exhaust as it passes me
mckayleesmom replied: I have never choked on fumes from someone just driving by unless the car was breaking down.....I think there must be something wrong with that car. I know they give off fumes, but Ive never smelt or choked on them all the time.
Im going to say regular car....Ive never driven a hybrid yet....but they make a wierd noise to me....kind of like a bee buzzing in my ear....I think it would drive me batty.
MommyToAshley replied: We are seriously considering a Hybrid for our next car. Besides the fact that you'd make up the difference in cost in gas in the first year alone, I would be doing something that is better for the environment and our economy. Oh -- and don't forget, you also get a tax deduction for driving one.
I don't own one yet, but I want one. I'd love to hear from someone that owns one.
MommyToAshley replied: Wow... I guess I am in the minority here. Where's all my tree-hugging friends?
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Dee Dee I have never heard the one year thing...I have always heard 4 years but then when it comes time to start fixing you are looking at more $$ so overall they end up being more expensive.
For me...I would be all over a hybrid if they came in a tahoe body but also only if there was an actual difference. a lot of the SUV's are coming out with a hybrid version but they only get a couple MPG better so no reason for me to spend the $$
PrairieMom replied: I voted regular gas, but I really really want something better for the environment, just as soon as they become practical and affordable, and second hand.
grapfruit replied: Personally, I'm going to wait until they figure it all out w/the bio fuels. Reason being is that in my area a hybrid doesn't make sense. I'd be using the gas portion of it all the time. From what I understand, hybrids really are only practical in big cities where you're using the electric motor. If you're cruising down the interstate at 65 mph then you're not using the electric motor. I don't do a lot of "in traffic" driving, so thus, not practical.
MyLilAngel replied: A Tahoe is huge. More and more SUV's are becoming hybrids. Chrysler LLC has two new SUV's coming up. I'm a treehugger MommyToAshley . Your not the only one. I will admit although a treehugger, I do love Jeeps. I've never heard a hybrid car pass by sounding like a bee. I actually don't hear anything when they pass me on the street.
Brias3 replied: I'm actually trying to do quite a bit of research on hybrids lately. We're looking to buy a new car to replace mine sometime this summer and are considering the Lexus RX hybrid. I drive an SUV right now and really want to stick with it for the space and size, but wouldn't mind taking a little stress off the environment!
I don't know many people with hybrids, so I'm curious to see if anyone has a more personal opinion as well!
MommyToAshley replied: Actually, I thought we were talking about cars not SUV's. The Toyota Sirus (?don't think I am spelling that one correctly) actully gets 46-50 mpg! The larger SUV's don't get as good of gas mileage as the cars, just like regular SUV's don't.
I would love to get a hybrid for our next car, but we also have a SUV that I love and hope that they continue to improve on technology. There are all kinds of advances ... there's even a car that works on steam. We're just slow to apply that knowlege to actual auotmobiles for consumer purchase.
coasterqueen replied: We want to for these various reasons, but unfortunately I don't think my husband will end up doing that this year when we do buy one. One reason is he has a credit card "credit" to go towards a certain company of vehicle, and he's wanting a truck and they don't make a hybrid truck from what I understand. We need that "credit" as our down payment so maybe the next car *I* get will be a hybrid.
grandma replied: Ford is making the Escape as a hybrid now.....cute little suv, my mil has one.
My2Beauties replied: I chose Hybrid only because I love the fact that they get more mpg and are better for the environment, but right now I can't afford one Maybe my next car in the next couple of years will be a Hybrid, I hope they start making more Hybrid SUV's though and they're more stylish then the ugly Hybrid cars they are making. No offense to anyone that has one, I'd have one in a sec because they save money if I could, but I think they're ugly.
Brias3 replied: The thing that concerns me about the hybrids is the repair costs too. A friend of mine told me her SIL has a hybrid and it is quite costly to repair and problems can be more frequent, especially with the two motors. She also mentioned something about having major issues with the heavy battery and regeneration system used to produce electricity. Not a clue what that means, but those are definitely issues and areas I want to look into before I would seriously look to purchase.
Calimama replied: I'm interested in hybrid but I agree with waiting until most of the kinks have been worked out first. Awesome concept though.
gr33n3y3z replied: Reg car only bc what we would choose to replace what I have Gas miliage would be the same any way we already checked it out up at the Car shows and talked to ppl. about it
luvbug00 replied: they say that the batteries are still a cause for concern with the hybrids. the disposal in perticular.
i did find a site about hybrids and many of the questions you all asked are in it. http://www.hybridcars.com/faq.html#battery
MyLilAngel replied: What model car do you actually drive? Do you like the MPG it gives you? I'm in the hunt for a new car at this moment.
