Hurricane Katrina - How have????
lisar wrote: I was just wondering if anyone has helped in any way to this. I have donated formula, diapers, wipes and canned goods. I also got an e-mail from our builders association today and there are alot of familes comming here. I live in florida. They are wanting us to offer jobs to people who lost everything as long as they have the electrical experiance. I talked to my big boss about it and and then I called them and told them to send as many people as they would like over to fill out an app. We will hire at least 20 ppl. (we need more employees. we have an ad in the paper now offering $1000.00 sign on bonus) So we are trying to help in any way we can. I dont know what I would do if lost everything like that.

redchief replied: What a wonderful thing you're doing! Offering hope for a future to those who must feel hopeless is so much more than just food for today. My hat's off to you and yours.
amynicole21 replied: That's great Lisa! I think that's the best kind of help you can offer.
I made up a box of diapers, formula, pacifiers, clothes and wipes to send... still trying to figure out where to send it though!
coasterqueen replied: I don't have a lot of money at the moment, but we took money out of ours and the girls savings and got it to the Red Cross. I wish I could have given more.
I also put a box of Kylie's clothes that don't fit her anymore and some toys, books to a family done there that lost everything. Thanks to Brenda.
I am sending a box today of infant clothes that Megan has grown out of, some blankets, shoes, socks, etc and am going to see if I have some baby toys I can send down to the area of those in need.
I thought I had some free diaper coupns but must have already use them, but I have a formula check I'm going to send too.
Not much, but I guess it's better than nothing. I wish I had more money to send.
3'smom replied: Not much money here either. I'm sorting through the clothes the kids have outgrown and putting sizes alike in bags together. Gathering some food products and small kids toys and books. At the place they will be staying at near us they said they needed things to keep the kids occupied.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Amy here's an address you can send it to... I've been thinking of doing the same thing! Although Dh says he'd rather just send money I guess that would be the same thing but I like knowing what it's going to kwim.
Feed the Children Attn: Daniel Craig 29 N McCormick Oklahoma City, OK 73127
Btw this is the address for the main Feed the Children HQ and Daniel Craig is taking on getting baby supplies for hurricane victims.
JAYMESMOM replied: The Baton Rouge Convention River Center is housing 40000 victims. Many babies and children.
They are in desperate need of supplies.
The Baton Rouge River Center 275 South Fiver Rd Baton Rouge, LA 70802
225-389-3030
TANNER'S MOM replied: We have victims in our Red Cross building here.... I took blankets.. I seemed to have an over abundance.. and kids clothes.
I couldn't do much but I stopped at the dollar store and loaded up in deoradant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo etc.
I bought some inexpensive things like baby bottles etc..
I have also made a plea on the radio this morning... alot of people in our area are having YARD SALES.. I ask all them to not put their things in a dumpster.. but box up anything that can be used and give to the charity's.
We have 4000 people coming to Ft Chaffee.. and they will have no clothes etc...
JAYMESMOM replied: We had 10 kids and 4 adults make it up to Michigan. A local hotel took them in and I took up clothes and toys that we had.
At 1 Am when I got there the managers office was already waste high with stuff.
We dont know if they are sending more people up this way but the governor of Mi and Detroit mayor said they would take people in/
I am waiting for more word.
amynicole21 replied: I ended up sending a huge box to the following:
Marksville City Hall Attn Myron Gagnard/Hurricane Relief Coordinator 427 N Washington St Marksville, LA 71351
They had put a plea out on craigslist for baby supplies and adult toiletries.
Bear in mind, it cost me $45 to ship the box FedEx... sending money would have probably been a lot easier.... too late now
A&A'smommy replied: I'm not sure exactly what we are going to do.. probably go buy a bunch of stuff and take it to the donation area... ALSO I think I'm going to try and get together a blood drive I'm going to call the red cross and see if they need blood and if they do then I'm going to talk to the church and see if we can get a blood drive organized.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Wow I guess maybe sending money would be easier! I guess if we lived close too the drop off centers we could do that but thats too much shipping!
mom21kid2dogs replied: Most of the news organizations here are asking for money as opposed to hard goods, so that's what we did.
Oh yeah, I did give blood but I do that every time I can anyway and had an appt long before Katrina hit.
mammag replied: I just volunteered to be the parent in charge of collecting donations and sending them to the American Red Cross at the picnic this coming Friday with the Virtual Academy. I'm pretty excited about it!
Alice replied: An alternative is to go online and shop. I went to the Childrens Place and hit their clearance racks, after going online and finding a 25%off coupon. (I think the code is REM75, but you would have to check. Shipping was only $5. Lots of tees and tanks were in the $1 range, so you could get a LOT for the money.
All those clothes on clearance for us northerners would make be great for those in the effected areas.
