Huggies conspiracy theory - Anyone else notice . . .

msoulz wrote: I have been buying Huggies at Costco for at least a year now. The last couple of boxes I purchased seemed a bit flimsy, and now they are soaking through at night and on the occasional time when we don't change every few hours. I found an older diaper in her diaper bag, and it's about 3 times thicker and more elastic than the new box. Has anyone else noticed a significant decrease in Huggies quality? And where do you buy them? I am wondering if Huggies makes/buys cheaper diapers to sell to the warehouse clubs? (that's my conspiracy theory anyway).

I'm just not going to buy them anymore. I have been a cheapskate for 18 months now and I guess the next however long she needs them I will actually have to spend more than 15 cents/diaper. blush.gif

moped replied: I don't use Huggies, but I have also noticed a difference in Pampers to be honest - one time they changed the inner lining to a mesh thingy that gave Jack a sore penis - so i wrote them and they said I was not the first to complain and that they were actually changing back - which they did and sent me $40 back from the last box I bought.

msoulz replied: OH, maybe I should call and complain then.

I'm glad they gave you back your money. Have they changed the Pampers back yet? I only used Pampers Premium for my son, and the one time I tried to be cheap he got a rash, so we went back.

Twelve Volt Man replied:
Impressive customer service, at least.

Boo&BugsMom replied: We use Luvs. I've never been a fan of the overly priced namebrand diapers. May as well cut off an arm. The only time I had a problem with Luvs is with the newborn size...but I also had two almost 10 pound newborns laugh.gif. Aiden lasted in newborns for all of 5 days. blink.gif I also tried the Target brand, which are ok, but they don't hold a lot (thin) and I compared the price to Luvs and they came out to be about the same price.

moped replied:
Yes they got rid of the mesh stuff but now they seem thinner and he wakes up from nighttime drenched - so i don't know.........hopefully we won't have to worry much about diapers soon - well until a newborn arrives!! These were Pampers Cruisers BTW

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I haven't noticed any difference in Huggies at all. unsure.gif They work great for us and don't seem thin. I buy them at Wal-mart and Target, but I used to get them at Sam's and they seemed fine to me then too. dunno.gif

msoulz replied: I did try Luvs at the beginning because they were given to me and liked them, but then I got another bag and they had no stretch to them whatsoever - might have been the next size up or something. So I changed to Kroger's store brand, which was awesome but then the same thing happened - their stretchy tabs didn't stretch at all. I just can't put a kid in a diaper that has no stretch in the waist, it seems so uncomfortable. Then I went to the Huggies which were the same price as the Kroger brand when purchased in large quantities at Costco.

So I may go try a bag of Kroger diapers again to see if they have regained their elasticity. And I may pick up Luvs again too. I never tried the Target brand.

Thanks all! thumb.gif

msoulz replied:
Hmm - perhaps they just got really thin lately then. When I first noticed it I thought they had just gotten thinner as diapers have over the years, but then the soak throughs made me rethink, along with finding the nice, fluffy, stretchy older diaper. I don't think it has been more than 3 or 4 months between buying the fluffy and the flat diapers.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I agree about the stretch. That is the only thing I do not like about the Luvs, there is no stretch to them at all. I have found they are a bit larger in size than other brands though, maybe that is why they do not stretch? I haven't had leaking issues though, so I'll stick to them, but it would be nice if they stretched a little.

Maddy'sMommy replied: Luvs makes them stretchy now. The mom I babysat for had them... I don't know where she got them though. I like Luvs but stopped using them b/c they had no stretch... I have looked for the ones with the stretch but have not found them... I would think it would be labeled on the front or something.

but they definitly have them with stretch now. smile.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
WHAT?!?! Where are these stretchy Luvs you speak of?!?! huh.gif I need to get them to stretch or my 5 week old will soon be in SIZE 2's!!!!

Jamison'smama replied: I complained to Huggies a few months ago when I bought a bag at Big Lots --they were a different pattern and I emailed to ask if they were different....they informed me they were the older style and sent me 2 coupons for a free pack of diapers and 2 2.00 off coupons.

MyBabeMaddie replied: Since you said you shop at Costco have you tried the Costco brand? They are identical to the Huggies we have bought, no leaks (well except for the explosive salmonella episodes) Good prices too I think we bought 198 diapers for like $30/35.

BabyOwen427 replied: I have bought huggies for the last year and I haven't noticed a decrease in the thinckness or absorbancy. I did notice that when I shoved a couple diapers in my purse if I didn't use them and they traveled in my purse for a while they got all bunched up and seemed thicker than ones straight from the same pack. I know that's not what you're talking about but that's the only thickness difference I've noticed. Sorry, I'm no help.

Calimama replied: I haven't noticed a change either. huh.gif I'm not a big fan of the brand but they work. happy.gif

My2Beauties replied:
I was never able to use the Cruiser brand made by Pampers on Hanna, she always soaked right through them, especially through the night. I swear by Pampers Baby Dry...those things will hold a butt load (pun intended laugh.gif ) of fluid. I asked people to buy me mostly that brand at my baby shower for Aubrey. I got some of the Pampers Swaddlers too, they seem to be working ok for Aubrey and I also got some Huggies Newborn ones too, those worked ok...but as they get older they soak more so I wanted to use the Baby dry. A friend bought me a huge pack of Luvs too so I'll be trying those out, I have enough diapers to last me forever.

HuskerMom replied: I use Parent's Choice during the day and Huggies at night. Parent's Choice is cheaper but if I put them on Keith at night he wakes up with leaks in the morning. So a big package of Huggies lasts for a long time. I've never had any problems with leaks in Huggies.

msoulz replied: So I have tried both kinds of Pampers, some Playskool brand, and several others and have found nothing better than the Huggies I have.

HOWEVER, I just saw an advertisement that Luv's are becoming stretchy, so as soon as I see them they are in my cart!! thumb.gif

Otherwise I will be on the hunt for overnight diapers again.

gr33n3y3z replied: Are Luvs and Pampers the same company still?

My3LilMonkeys replied:
Yes they are. My dad works for Proctor & Gamble, the company that makes both, and told me that the interior of both brands are run on the exact same machine - the only difference between them is the elastic, the tabs and the outside material.

And the Luvs are stretchy now in my area - I love them!!!!

msoulz replied: I haven't even looked at the store yet (just saw the commerical) but if anyone in the Detroit area has found the stretchy Luvs please share where you found them!

Oh, and I read on the web site that the stretchy ones start in size 3 for now with 1 and 2 to be introduced in the fall, or something like that.

Very good to know about Pampers & luvs being very much the same!

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Very, very interesting..............we tried Luvs with Sammy in 2005 but didnt like them because they didnt stretch. Now that they stretch, though..............hmmmmmmmm.

Pampers Cruisers worked great with Sammy. I tried them with Abby and they didnt work well at all. We've been using Huggies with her and so far they've worked out the best. I havent noticed a difference in the Huggies' thickness.

Sammy did have to wear Huggies OverNites at bedtime because of leakage. Huggies Overnites worked great but they only go to size 5 and he's in a 6, now. bawling.gif

A&A'smommy replied: actually I noticed as alyssa got bigger and started moving around that they didn't work for her anymore... so I switched to pampers cruisers they worked wonderfuly!!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I could never use the huggie brand on my girls. They didn't fit right and I was constantly getting blowouts. I used Luvs for Jade and they were the best. I like the Parent's Choice diapers for Jordan. The Walgreens Brand isn't too bad either.
