How would you react if your Government lied?
Nina J wrote: I was just reading about rioters and anti-government protestors in Budapest. The Government over there lied repeatedly to win the April election.
I'd definatly be angry, I wouldn't riot and everything though.
cameragirl21 replied: I dunno, somehow I think our govt lies to us quite a bit, maybe not all the time but often enough IMO. I think one of the biggest lies btw is that the saudis are our friends and allies....
CantWait replied: Isn't that what they always do anyway.
redchief replied: Hmm... Governments lie all the time. Sometimes they're little white lies, and other times they're whoppers. I think that it's up to the citizens to require honesty and accountability. It's also important that government has a built in safety net - elections. That's how accountability is enforced.
Nina J replied: Of course Governments lie, but Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany's said: "We lied in the morning, we lied in the evening". I wouldn't feel comfortable with a leader who activly and knowingly lied continuously to win.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I did not have sexual relations with that woman....
Sorry-I know there are plenty more I could have quoted but that just jumped to mind...
luvmykids replied: I'd be bothered by the lack of conscience shown by Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany mostly because I'd wonder what else such lack would result in. Having said that, he's in office and what can be done? Nothing until the next election.
I don't know of a government that doesn't lie, granted he was pretty bold about confessing to it, but as long as he didn't inhale...
mummy2girls replied: When do they not lie? I think everyone does to get a hold of the election and then the true colors come out and some of the things and maby on occasion some of the things they promised dont come to surface:(
MommyToAshley replied: I have to agree, all governments lie. However, not all lies are equal.
I can be a little more forgiving of a government official that lied for security reasons and to protect our country or the people serving it. However, I have a harder time forgiving the politician that lies for the purpose of getting elected or staying in office. I would have more respect for a politician that admitted a mistake and asked for forgiveness. Unfortunately, that rarely happens.
holley79 replied: I thought all Goverments lied.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, I think we'd all be naive to think they don't lie to us. Maybe I'm a cynic since I deal with state politics. State government lies through their teeth constantly that they don't even know they are lying anymore.
coasterqueen replied: I don't know about your state Dee Dee but I haven't met a politician yet in ours who didn't lie to get elected...even the tiniest white lie or what they like to call "If I'm elected I promise to do...." and then don't.
mom2my2cuties replied: In the words of House, MD - Everyone Lies -
Just something you have to deal with in life.
A&A'smommy replied: I wouldn't riot either too scary!!
MoonMama replied:
TheOaf66 replied: what do you mean "if", as far as I can remember the gov. has been lying to us, we just kind of accept it.
