How would you prefer to travel?

coasterqueen wrote: Dh and I are planning a trip down to see our niece and nephew. We'd like to do it around Thanksgiving. I prefer to fly. He prefers to drive.

stella6979 replied: I am terrified of flying so if I can get some where on land, that's the only option for me. biggrin.gif

stella6979 replied: Of course, I've always wanted to take a train somewhere. Is that a possibility for your trip? That might be fun. smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Hmm, I'll have to check on that. That might be fun, too. It might be more expensive, though. I found cheap air fares. We can get there and back for about $750! That's a steal.

stella6979 replied: That is a great deal. If only I enjoyed flying. biggrin.gif
I've never priced the trains, but I can't imagine they'd be much more than that. Who knows though? Dh and I have talked about taking one to Chicago one year, but we have yet to do it.

Calimama replied: I love to fly and I love road trips, but I voted for flying.

Cece00 replied: I hate driving on long trips. 8 hrs is my maximum. If we cant get there in a car in 8 hrs- we're flying.

lovemy2 replied: Fly for sure- I HATE driving or riding.... wacko.gif

TheOaf66 replied: never been on a train but I think that would be fun, someone else drives and there is a lot of nice scenery you can look at

5littleladies replied: I voted train. Jas and I took the train to Chicago last year for our anniversary and I loved it! I want to take the kids somewhere on the train now. It was so relaxing and enjoyable. We got to enjoy the scenery, sit and talk, play cards in the lounge car, it was a really good time. happy.gif

MoonMama replied: I said train only because I have never done that and I think it would be fun. I do LOVE to fly though. thumb.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I really hate flying so if I can avoid it I will. I do like to drive so I voted car.

Boo&BugsMom replied: If I was going for the shortest time, I'd say plane. I do like driving through the different states to get somewhere though. Trains are fun, but take just as long as a car.

gr33n3y3z replied: I picked other bc I only ever traveled by car but I would like to try a plane
But I do find if you travel by car you can see lots of sights

coasterqueen replied:
And hear two screaming kids and see your sanity go right out the window. laugh.gif rolling_smile.gif I don't mind the drive there. It's the drive back home that I totally lose it. wacko.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I HATE flying, but I hate riding in a car too. So anyway that gets me there the fastest is my vote. wink.gif And I know that wouldn't be the train.

coasterqueen replied:
Yeah, I just checked on a train and while it's about $130 cheaper overall than flying (although it wouldn't be after eating and drinks on the train) the layovers are HORRIBLE. It would double the time it'd take us to get there by car. wacko.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I'd rather spend more money and get there sooner rather than drive. It's a bit of hassle in the airport with Logan sometimes, but still at least I'm not dog tired when we get there.
ETA, Aaron and Logan took the train to Indiana and they could have driven there faster. It's nice because of the space issues (get a suite) but timewise, I think you lose out.

My2Beauties replied:
Same here, I'll drive to like Alabama or somewhere but if it's more than an 8 hour trip then I'd rather fly. Although I have drove to Hilton Head SC and that was 12 hours wacko.gif

holley79 replied: If I have all the time in the world and can see the sights along the way I love to drive it. If it's somewhere I have to get fast and only have a certain amount of time then fly. When I went to Mexico to train a call center, of course, we flew.

Anthony275 replied: it depends. im going to colleges this weekend and its only 3 hours away, but florida id fly to

Twelve Volt Man replied: For me, it depends completely on how far the drive would be. I don't mind driving, and we usually do it at night. There's less traffic, my wife (and now, our son) can sleep, and I have complete peace and quiet. Most of the time, when we fly, we end up having a layover somewhere. By the time you get to the airport early, check baggage, lay over at another airport, then finally get to your destination, it's almost as fast to fly. Plus, having a child, we can carry more gear when we drive.

MommyToAshley replied: It depends on where we are going and what there is to see and do on the way.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I love to ride in a car. As long as I don't have to drive and we've got the DVDs for the girls, we're good for a 12 hour trip. I think I would enjoy a train for the same reason.

I'm extremely cheap though. No way would I pay to fly if I could drive in less than a day.

luvmykids replied: Just depends, like Twelve Volt Man said, by the time we get to the airport, check in, etc we usually could have gotten there the same time, cheaper, and on our schedule by driving. BUT I haven't attempted taking the kids on a plane yet. Probably next summer.

When DH and I go on vacation we always fly though, it's usually CA or FL and would waste our entire time driving.

lisar replied: I said plane. I would love to ride on a train but I see more of them crash than an airplane so I am terrified of them.
