How to make a meat loaf?

coasterqueen wrote: Ok, I usually make a meat loaf with bread crumbs (crackers), eggs, and a meatloaf mix. WELL, I thawed hamburger, but don't have a meat loaf mix. How can I make a meat loaf without the mix? I figured someone here would have a suggestion. happy.gif

moped replied: I do........

mix the hamburger wtih:

bbq sauce
shredded cheese
montreal steak spice
tabasco
crackers
salt and pepper

cook for an hour

MommyToAshley replied: 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 cup crushed buttery round crackers
3/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons steak sauce
Directions
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.Stir the ground beef, crushed crackers, Cheddar cheese, and onion soup mix in a large bowl until well combined. Whisk the eggs, ketchup, and steak sauce in a separate bowl until smooth. Mix the eggs into the meat until evenly combined, if the mixture seems too dry, add a little water. Press into a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
3.Bake in preheated oven until the meatloaf reaches 160 degrees F (71 degrees C) and is no longer pink in the center, 45 to 60 minutes.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Best meatloaf tip EVER from Rachel Ray . . . .make mini loaves in muffin pans rather than cooking the big loaf. Done in 30 minutes, they cook evenly, and kids think they are the coolest thing ever! I'll never loaf again. cool.gif Also works for ham loaf. (Which I know half the world had never heard of. I'd never had it until I moved here but it's big here)thumb.gif

msoulz replied: I make it with a pound of groud beef and 1/2 pound of italian sausage, mix in a little pizza sauce (along with the usual ingredients), press it around a few sticks of string cheese to make a tunnel in the middle, bake it, then top it with more pizza sauce and call it pizza meatloaf!

MommyToAshley replied:
I'll have to try that sometime. laugh.gif

DVFlyer replied: How to make a meat "loaf"...

I'm DYING to think of a punchline.....!! rolling_smile.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: 2 lb. lean ground beef
1 pkg. Stove Top Stuffing Mix
1 cup water
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 Ketchup, divided

Heat oven to 375°, mix beef, stuffing mix, water, eggs and 1/4 cup ketchup. Shape into loaf, place into 13x9 pan and top with remaining ketchup. Bake 1 hour or until done.

Our Lil' Family replied: What is in meatloaf mix?? I've never heard of one, much less used one.

I just add bread crumbs, maybe an egg, sometimes some bbq..other times tomato sauce. I've done it in muffin cups before, much quicker that way like Cheryl mentioned with the mini loaves.

msoulz replied:
What is a ham loaf? I am intrigued....

mom21kid2dogs replied:
It's cooked ham that's ground like hamburger. Unlike meatloaf, you don't do anything else to it to prepare it~just bring it home & cook it. we top ours with a honey mustard glaze. Most restaurants serve it with pineapple & marscino cheery garnish. If you like ham, you'd like this. I assume it's regional. I grew up 2 hours from here and had never even heard of it until I moved here. Maybe it's Southern?

MommyToAshley replied: I'm not that far from you, and I have never heard of it either. laugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: Sorry DVflyer, was in a hurry, should have said meatloaf. tongue.gif

I ended up finding a mix in the cabinet, because I didn't have half the stuff you all mentioned. Thanks for the tips for the future, though. thumb.gif
