How to dress your child at night?
MommyToAshley wrote: I love this time of the year, because the weather is perfect...not too hot and not too cold for Ashley to go out and play. (At least right now in Ohio) But, dressing her for nightime drives me nuts. It's still pretty warm when she goes to bed, but gets down to the low 40's at night. I would dress her cool and just put a cover on her when it gets cooler, but she still won't keep a cover on when she sleeps. What do you do?
coasterqueen replied: Well since we keep our house at a constant temp all through the year whether we have the heat on or air I don't worry too much about what I dress her in for bed. Kylie also gets hot very easily and doesn't like to use covers so I dress her in short and tshirt type pj's. I put her in long winter type pj's last night and she woke up crying that she was too hot.
I dare not put her in footed pj's either because she HATES that.
MomToMany replied: The older boys wear T-shirts and sweats, Ethan has long-sleeved pj's with pants, Hannah wears either a T-shirt or a nightgown, and Kayla wears her sleepers.
I would dress her warmer since she doesn't keep the covers on. Is there a fan to cool her room a bit as she goes to sleep? Then you could shut it off when you guys go to bed. Just an idea.
Boys r us replied: We also keep our house at the same temp all year long. I put Brae in cotton pj's long sleeved and pants, no socks.
5littleladies replied: We try to keep our house the same temp all year round but for some reason Megan and Brianna's room gets chilly at night in the winter. My problem these days is that Brianna wants to sleep in nothing but a diaper. That's ok with me for the summer but now that I need her to keep her p.j.'s on we are having a few struggles. We stick to feet pajamas for the most part because she doesn't keep her covers on most of the time.
ediep replied: I just went to Kohls yesterday and got Jason some new PJ's. I bought all long sleeve, long pants, no feet type. I sometimes put socks on him but he usually takes them off.
caEdyns_mOMMY replied: I love the baby Gap pajama sets! They're long sleeve and long pants, and although I can't vouch for it myself, I'm sure they're very comfy! Caedyn seems to sleep very soundly in them.
MommyToAshley replied: We usually keep the temp pretty consistent in the summer/winter. But, in the spring and fall, I LOVE to open up the windows and it doesn't make sense to turn on the heat for a couple of house late night/early morning when it gets cold.
It'll probably only be a few more weeks that I have to deal with this, thanks for all your ideas and suggestions. Ashley doesn't have a fan in her room, but I might turn a floor fan on after she's in her crib and can't get to it.
coasterqueen replied: I'm jealous! I'd love to open our windows but my allergies act up and I've noticed Kylie wakes up stuffy if I do that.
I think the fan might help if you dress her in long warm pj's. Kylie has a ceiling fan and she uses that thing more than we use ours. ROFL. She's just a HOT blooded creature.
redchief replied: We're fresh air fiends here... all of us. I have the worst seasonal allergies but I still love these fall evenings with the low humidity and light breezes. As far as what is worn, all my children are older, so with the exception of Kaitlin, my youngest who must wear pj's. We have light ones for this time of year and supply her with several light blankets (seems to work better than one heavy because she can choose one or more depending upon comfort levels).
Now, since it IS Fire Prevention Week in the US and I AM a fire chief, I felt this was a good time to remind everyone of a few things often forgotten in our busy lives... Please look at and comment on my new post "Fire Prevention for Safe Nights."
Also please feel free to add to it since I'm running on low caffiene levels right now
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Well it's pretty chilly here at night. So I dress Claudia in flannel pj's. She refuses to sleep with socks or blankets, so I overdress her that way she stays warm.
Sunflower04 replied: I dress Joey in the one piece pj's with an under shirt. He likes to sleep with the temp on the cold side and of course with no blankets.
booey2 replied: Well it doesn't matter what I put on them they both will take em off and sleep in their underwear. Matthew has all kinds of PJ's and will wear them before he goes to bed and then takes them off just as he crawls into bed. Thomas won't even put pj's on - I have a hard enough time keeping clothes on him during the day he likes to run around in just the buff until I get him to put his undies on.
My2Beauties replied: I put Hanna in long sleeves and long pants, I put socks on her too but she normally wiggles them off in the middle of the night, our house gets cool at night and I put one cover on her, she always seems pretty comfortable.
Kaitlin'smom replied: well since I am not far from you...I dress her in long pants and long sleve shirts, they are that inbetween not to hot and not to cool kinda pj's, she loves her blankie so she is coverd most the night, he room is a bit on the chilly side, and she has let me know if she is 'hot' or 'burrr' before.
Josie83 replied: Cassie's like her daddy, she's always hot at night. She's recently taken to wearing either a shirt of mine or even more hilariously of Jason's when she goes to bed. if I try and out her in her pyjamas she shakes her head tells me no! She looks so cute when she's wearing my tops though, because she's so small! xx
