How often do you read to your toddler?

kimberley wrote: and how long will they sit still for? Jade LOVES to read books but flips the pages before i am done reading them (most are max 4 word sentence per page wacko.gif ). she could do this for about an hour. biggrin.gif

A&A'smommy replied: Alyssa does the SAME thing its funny

booey2 replied: I try to read to them but they seem to have way too much energy by the end of the days these days because they aren't getting outside to burn it off.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I said every few days, but its more like when she lets me. She to flips the pages before I am done reading them rolleyes.gif so silly. I try every few days somedays she loves it and others she wants nothing to do with it. SO I just keep trying

MommyToAshley replied: We always read a few books at bedtime (I've done this since she was a few months old). On most days, she will bring a book here or there throughout the day to be read as well. Ashley loves books and to have stories read to her, or she loves to read them to other people. I think it has really helped with her vocabulary.

DansMom replied: I read "on demand" the same way I nurse rolling_smile.gif That ends up being a couple of times a day at least, always in the evening as part of the bedtime routine, but spontaneously at other times.

When I say no to videos (that would always be his first choice, but I'm limiting TV), he says "How 'Bout Books??" It's so cute.

He's just hit a new threshold of interest in more complex stories. He can sit for longer periods of time and really listen to the descriptions.

MomToMany replied: I voted for a couple times a day. There's work here that I have to get done for DH, otherwise I'd love to read to them all day long.

aspenblue1 replied: Isabella flips pages also. Then she will say all done and go get another book.

kit_kats_mom replied: we read 4-5 books before bed each night and before naptime and occasionally we will read a book or two during the day. she also reads to us in the car.

ediep replied: Jason laso flips the pages before I finish reading, but he likes to look at the pictures and point to things on the pages better anyway

paradisemommy replied: well i guess i'm in the minority cause i put all day long!! we have books everywhere and he loves to read. he'll come up to us all day long and back up his little butt (meaning he wants you to pick him up) meanwhile screaming..mommy/daddy read pleeeeaaasssseeeeeeee.

chloe&tysmommy replied:
rolling_smile.gif Chloe does this also!!!!! rolling_smile.gif

She really LOVES her books..!!!

DansMom replied:
rolling_smile.gif WAY TOO CUTE!!

I know that but wiggle while backing up move---Daniel does that too. I can't believe how cute it is.

coasterqueen replied: I would say I read at least one story to Kylie a night...sometimes it averages out to more a night and some days we go a day or two without *me* or *daddy* reading to her. She likes to read to us too. smile.gif

loveydad replied: Tracy just loves to be read to but it never lasts for more than 5-10 minutes or one story book. Nicky and Andriana will listen for a while. Nicky's actually the b est about just being quiet and listening to me read.

caEdyns_mOMMY replied: I read to Caedyn every night...well I try. She also is a page turner and only lets me spend about 2.5 seconds on each page. Most of the time instead of reading I have her point things out on the pages to keep her interested.

ctymom replied: My daughter loves to have books read to her. Just about every morning she brings me her favorite books so we can sit and go through them. I dont always read word for word, but we point to pictures and I tell her about them. Sometimes she'll sit and listen to a whole book. Other times she just wants to hear about one page.

I end up reading to her at least a couple times a day, but some days she's forcing her way on my lap with a book. LOL

Josie83 replied: Cassie absolutely loves to be read to. She's very good about sitting and listening to them, although she likes to turn the pages rolleyes.gif She always has one or two before bed but will often ask us to read to her during the day as well. She likes Daddy to read to her because he does funny voices laugh.gif She has recently started "reading" to us as well, where she tells us what is happening from the pictures wub.gif She loves joinin in with stories too wub.gif wub.gif xx

My2Beauties replied: Well Hanna has a very short attention span at 14 months and she likes to look at pictures more! I try to read and she grabs the book turns the page and then throws it down! Sometimes I read her my books out loud ( I have like Toddler Books and stuff I read in the bathroom blush.gif ) sorry TMI!!!! LOL LOL!!!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Claudia loves to have stories read to her. She will sit and read with us for hours. It's so nice.

Sunflower04 replied: I must be horrible because I don't really read to Joey. sad.gif I know at daycare they read to him but when we get home at night we play and then he has his milk and we watch tv until he falls asleep.

christiansmommy replied: My lil one wants to read 4-7 he just turned 1 oon 2*18 and he is constantly bringing me or daddy books to read...his favorite is good night moon. it is so annoying bc that book drive me crazy! but i love the fact he loves for us to read to him! wub.gif

crazylips replied: James (19mths) loves his books. It's not unusual to find him sitting in front of his bookcase "reading". He'll stay there for 30 minutes or so.

I know a few of his books by heart and if I'm washing up and he brings one of those books into the kitchen, I'll just start telling the story while he flips the pages.

Steve reads to him, also, but doesn't always say the right words ohmy.gif . If it's a story James knows, James will shake his head at Steve until he says the right words. It's so cute.

jcc64 replied: We don't have any set times that we read, but we read frequently throughout the day. When Corey decides it's book time, she generally takes about 8-10 books off the shelves, brings them over, piles them up, and we go through each and every one. Most have only 1 or 2 sentences on the pages, and she is particularly attached to the ones she has memorized, so she can "read" to me. Preschool story hour at the library really is a big social event around here..... rolling_smile.gif
