How much does your 5/6 month old weigh?

motherofthree wrote: Hi, I am so tired of worrying if my baby is gaining enough weight. sad.gif I thought breastfed babies were supposed to be really fat. He is 5 1/2 months old and weighs 14 lbs 8 oz. He weighed 6 lbs 8 oz at birth. My other two were formula fed, and granted he does weigh more than they did at this age, and one of them even weighed a whole pound more than him at birth. I guess I just have small kids, that's what the doc said. I would just feel better to get a poll of how much your breastfed babies weighed at birth, and how much they weighed at 5 or 6 months.

moped replied: They say by 6 months they should double the birth weight - so that is just fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not worry.

Jack weighed 22 pounds, but he is really a big boy - he weighed 10 at birth

Josie83 replied:
One word that springs to mind Jen . . . "OUCH!" wink.gif xx

mammag replied: Keegan is 16 lbs but all my boys were chunky babies and then lose it when they start walking and turn into little twigs!

I truly wouldn't worry about it if your others were small too.

motherofthree replied: It's amazing how their weights vary, I guess. 22 pounds!!!!!!!
OK, ladies keep those statistics coming in......

3_call_me_mama replied: Kathleen had her six month checkup on the 14th. She weighed 15 lbs 10 oz, she was 7lbs 6 oz at birth adn she's breastfed. Cameron was the exact same weight at the exact same age adn he too was breastfed. I think Genetics has a lot to do with it too, not just if they were breast or formula fed.

mammag replied: Aww, he's so precious!!!!

coasterqueen replied: Kylie weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces at birth and was 22 inches long. At 6 months she weighed 18 pounds, 7 ounces and 28 inches long. They say "norm" is doubling birth weight by 6 months so I agree he sounds fine wink.gif. It is true that the size of your babies could just "run" in the family wink.gif.

Edit: BTW, Kylie was breastfed for 24 months.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Your son is precious! wub.gif

My son is little. He weighs 20 pounds now and he is a year old. ohmy.gif At 6 mos he weighed 15 lbs. He was 8 lbs 2 oz at birth and was breastfed until he was 6 mos old. wink.gif

momma2emily replied: at Emilys 6 month check up she weighed 15lbs and 10 oz, she was 9lbs 1 oz at birth lol so its not always true that they double there birth weight lol

ZandersMama replied: My son was 7lb14.5 ozx at birth and is breastfed. At his 6 month checkup he was 24 lbs, and 30 inches long. He is a tall big boy

JAYMESMOM replied: Jayme was around 15 lbs at 6 months. She was 6 1/2 lbs at birth. She is 15 months and only weighs 20 lbs.

They should double by 6 months. So you are doing good.

stanleygirl replied: My son is 20 pounds, but he is really big, it seems like he is just built big. My first was/is a lot smaller, he is almost three and just hit 30 pounds, he is tall and really skinny. I guess it's just genetics bc I have really big relatives (like over 6 feet and husky) and DH's family are all generally short and thin. I know it's hard not to worry, I was constantly worried about my first, he still weighed 20 pounds at his two year checkup, and just recently had a growth spurt.

Emeraldsmom replied: Emerald was 8 pounds and 7 oz at birth. At six months she was 18 pounds and 14 oz. She is 7.5 months now and is 20 pounds and 5 oz. The doc says she is a little bigger than most her age though. smile.gif She is formula fed.

jem0622 replied: You are doing a fabulous job! As mentioned in pp, if he has doubled his birth weight then no need to worry! My girls were 5 lbs and a few oz. at birth. They are now about 12 lbs each. They are so petite compared to my boys, but they are on the charts and the ped is not hounding me!

WTG!

mama3x replied: DD was 12lbs 9ozs (but she was a 27-week preemie) and fully BF, no formula.

DS #2 is presently just shy of 4 months and is 16+lbs, fully BF with 2ozs of formula for one night feeding with dad.

DS #1 was about 14-16lbs and was BF with formula supplement.
