How many Military families here?
MilMunchMOM wrote: saw mommytojade (Carrie-Ann) said DH was in the military? I am(was) anad my DH still is. Anyone want to discuss location and such?
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Yup we are military. We are stationed at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. I know really tough assignement.
paradisemommy replied: dh and i are both in the hawaii air national guard...we both work up at wheeler army air field on oahu - he does it full time though but i'm just a weekend warrior
MilMunchMOM replied: awesome!!! I have been in the NJARNG (New Jersey Army National Guard for 10 years and 7 of them are AGR Active Guard Reserve ..active duty for the state.. I just recently requested to leave the AGR program. I was having a hard time with just two and that as a full time job I would have been kidding myself to think i could do it with three all under the age of 5. When I first joined the army i never imagined myself married with kids. Then I met my DH and we fell in love instantly. Did not plan the pregnancy and ended up with a surprise blessing. I stuck it out for 4 more years, but the army wants you to devote110% and thats (to me) impossible when your DH is in too and you have kids. I felt like I was torn in half most of the time. My kids were feeling it too. My Dh and I were in the same unit as well. I look at it this way too....my DH is in, my FIL is in and my BIL retired from the AD Special Forces after over 20yrs of service. My family has it covered! I plan to stay in part time for now though...
paradisemommy replied: i hear ya..i'm kinda in limbo too with dh and i both in..funny how your priorities completely change when your family expands (and we only have 1 so far!!!)..i feel rather torn, because being only part time, i feel like they expect me to drop everything and put them #1 and that's not how i work now. my family is my priority. we just had a voluntary recall for a couple years and everyone was asking me if i was gonna take it and i kept telling them no because my job is raising taven now and i don't want to be away from him all day especially this young. so looks like i may just finish out my term and not re-enlist..i've been in for about 4 years now (1 year being active duty)...i love my job, don't get me wrong - just not enough to let someone else raise my son. (and please nobody take offense to that statement)..we are blessed to be able to allow me to be a stay at home mom but i have nothing against working moms...
MilMunchMOM replied: i definiately have experienced both aspects of raising a child and I have to they are both equally as hard. They are different however. When I was working it was hard to be at work all day and then come home and have to make dinner and all. Then the stress of wondering how are my kids doing? Being at home you never get a break! You are always with a child. I am new at this and i am finding it very hard to keep a daily routine.
paradisemommy replied: before i had a baby, i always thought stay at home mom's had it made! boy was i in for the shock of my life when i actually became one. you are totally right - i'm on the job 24/7 and there are no breaks and it is very demanding and hard at times. but at the same time, i think it's rewarding because its me that gets to experience all his milestones and firsts. i have a hard enough time trying to keep things in order with just taven, i know that things are only going to get worse as there are more...(siblings)..so start making your list of pointers for me...we plan on having 3 kids max..right where you're at so i can use all the advice you can give me!!
Guest replied: no problem..i am no expert, but i can tell you what i have learned from my mistakes..lol
If Taven isn't potty trained already..get him trained before having another!!!!
Grow more arms, legs........maybe just clone yoursef........
Get a bigger laundry basket..cause the clothes never get put away.
buy a splat mat for every room
and LOVE every minute of it!!!!
MilMunchMOM replied: sorry...the previous post is me forgot to log in lol
CantWait replied: My dh is in the military, but we're up in Canada
kit_kats_mom replied: It's been a long time since I was in HI...1980 to be exact, and I was just a kid but is Wheeler near the Koli Koli pass? I'm sure you are laughing at me cause I probably spelled that all wrong but it's the pass in the mountians where the Japanese flew through to bomb pearl harbor. I think it's near the west end of Oahu & kinda in the middle if memory serves.
paradisemommy replied: i'm not laughing at you..you are pretty darn close! it is really close actually..wheeler is right across schofield army base and kole kole pass is in there. they closed it off for a while after 9/11 and i'm not sure if they reopened it or not but i've been meaning to drive through there because i haven't seen it YET!!
paradisemommy replied: Thanks for the advice...lol..i think all those things were on my list of things for me to do now!!
We are so hoping Taven will be potty trained by the time #1 comes (that was one of the main reasons we wanted to separate them 3 years apart)..
I've been wishing for more arms and legs since he was about a year and likes to challenge me when we change his diaper, change his clothes, pretty much anything he doesn't want to do!!
lol..are you kidding..my laundry has a turnaround of about 2 days now!!
i think my whole house is one big splat mat
and boy do i ever LOVE every minute..you have to or else you would go crazy i think..
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I actually have been thinking about driving through there myself. My DH works up there near Schofeild at Kunia or what is known as the Tunnel. You should come visit Cary. I bet the island has changed a lot since you were here last.
