How long was your labor? - was the second one any easier?

CAMSMOM1 wrote: I was wondering how long your 1st labor was, and was your second any easier or faster than the 1st?

My labor was 15 hours and 2 1/2 hours of pushing. It was my first baby, and I was induced...so maybe that's why it was so long.

It scares me to think I'll have to go that long with the next one. I have heard that the second baby comes quicker. I sure hope so.

I'm just trying to get info to help me to decide if I'm ready for a second baby. wacko.gif

TeagansMom609 replied: My first one was 12 hours long. I hope this one is alot quicker!

kit_kats_mom replied: first 12 hours natural
second 20 hours induced with drugs

kimberley replied: first - about 12 hrs with an hour of pushing. couldn't get his head out. epi slowed down labor. given about 5cm at high dose.

second - 5 hrs start to finish. labored natural to 10cm, then screamed for epi lol. about 5 min of pushing.

third - just under 5 hrs. induced. epi around 7cm at low dose. maybe 1 push. she came right out.

i hope this one is faster unsure.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: both were induced, I had had pre-term labor both times so I walked into the hospital at 4, and 3 cm. Katy was about 10 hours including the half hour of pushing. Matt was under 5 hours and I think 2 pushes...I spent about 10 minutes trying to hold him in as the dr. was on his way.

A general rule for a first labor is 24 hours so 15 is good

5littleladies replied: My first labor was 14 1/2 hours start to finish, and my second was 6-sooo much easier too. But my 3rd and 4th, while just as short, were much more intense. blink.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I was induced and I think the whole laboring process lasted about 12 hours. And I pushed for about 30 minutes. Hope this next one goes as smoothly!

zdk753 replied: My first one was 7 hrs 14 mins (yes I still remember exactly lol). My second one was 7 hrs 36 mins. My third was 3 hrs 16 mins.

CantWait replied: Sorry to break your bubble rolling_smile.gif
6 hours with my first
14 and a half with my second

Both were natural.

MamaJAM replied: My labors have been -

DD#1 - 9 hours - induced at 42 weeks
DD#2 - 10 hours - induced at 41 weeks
DD#3 - 23 hours - induced at 38 weeks (my body wasn't really ready - but she needed to be born)
DS#1 - 14.5 hours - induced at 39w1d
DS#2 - 90 mins from first contraction to delivery -- insane, 'natural' delivery at 38w6d

PhiMuMommy replied: my first baby i was in labor for almost 32 hours.. i haven't had a second yet.. but gosh i hope it gets easier!!! tongue.gif

A&A'smommy replied: 6hours before i had a c-section I was induced so it felt LONG and horrible but they gave me my epi WAY too early and so it made me NOT dialate and then made her heartbeat drop when they kept trying to make it work again rolleyes.gif anyway are you pg?

mummy2girls replied: Jordan was almost 24 hours from induction until i pished him out. And it took almost 3 hoyurs to push him out:(

Jenna was 10 hours from induction till i pushed her out. And it took 10 minutes to push her out.

Alyssa's Mom: I'm not sure if I'm pregnant. I am waiting until I stop my period to find out. Since I have heard from many of you that I can still have a period and be pregnant, I'm scared. Really scared to take the test. I'm soooooooo not ready to have another baby. Maybe that's why I'm stalling to take a test. I will this week, hopefully for some peace of mind. I know that if it is postitive, then it'll be fine. It's just not something we planned for, but neither was Cameron, and he was the biggest blessing. I just wanted to wait a couple more years, lose weight, get some money saved up, and spend more alone time with Cam-Cam. But whatver happens will be fine. I'll let you know once I find out. And if I'm not, then I don't know what's going on in my body. That's almost more scary then finding out I'm pregnant! Keep me in your prayers please. I'm STRESSING!!!!

Thanks for the message, I'll keep you posted.

PrairieMom replied: Mine was 6 hours from the time contractions started hurting until The Boy was born. I pushed for 1 1/2 hours and had a vacuum extraction. It wasn't so bad. i sat in the whirl pool tub for an hour or so and that really helped.

djwebb replied: my first was 9 hours, he was 3 days over due and I was induced. My second was 6 hours, all natural no epi or pain meds at all! My third was a suprising 16 hours! No pain meds or anything!

luvmykids replied: My first was 12 hrs start to finish w/epi, only a few pushes, and the twins were only 9 minutes apart. Second was 2.5 hrs start to finish, no epi and really not at all as bad as I thought it would be au naturale.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke was induced & I had an epi, I was about 7 hours from start of pitocin to delivery. Only about 4 hours of contractions, pushing was kind of a blur but I'm thinking 1/2 hour?

Madison was completely natural, I went 3 hours from 1st contraction to delivery. Pushing was maybe 10 min. I progressed so quickly that I went from calling my mom and telling her the baby was coming today, but don't bother leaving work early because it will be awhile to MIL calling 1/2 hour later and saying baby is here! biggrin.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I was in labor 22 hours with Andrew, with 2 1/2 hours of pushing. blink.gif I'm so hoping that the next one will be faster. I'm afraid the pushing at least will be just as bad because the women in my family have a history of their babies getting stuck above the pubic bone ~ and that's why it took so long to get Roo out. They used suction or it would have taken even longer. wacko.gif

huggybugboy replied: I was in labor for 15 hours with Miles, then 2 hours of pushing and then, after all that work, I had to have an emergency c-section! blink.gif The next one will, by default, have to be easier. tongue.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: Well, I'm hoping the second is shorter too. smile.gif With Lorelei I had my first contraction at 9:37 AM and she was born at 8:02pm. So 10 1/2 hours. It would have been faster, but her head was stuck sideways, and she had to be turned a little. That took 2 hours of pushing to get her turned the right way, and then once she was she was out in 10 minutes. UGH.

I'm really hoping that this one is around 5 hours long. That's about all I want. smile.gif Well, besides a healthy baby. HA! smile.gif

BUT get this...my best friend is PG right now too. She's due Aug. 12th, and her first was born in 4 hours, and she didn't tear at all. I'm so jealous. smile.gif lol

Freckled Momma replied: My first labor was around 7 hours long, ending in a C-section due to fetal distress

Second labor was about 10 hours long, normal vaginal delivery ( really was my first true labor) With my first my body never experienced dilation past 3 cm or any of the other stuff that goes with it. lol

So my third labor experience was definitely easier and a lil shorter...around 6 hrs. and that was with inducement.

The 4th...is all a blur...lol

MAMACARLA replied: I started contractions at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. Went to the hospital at 11 p.m.. Got sent home at 3 a.m.. Then returned at 5 a.m. and didn't have her until 4:30 that afternoon. banghead.gif But I only pushed for about 15-30 mins biggrin.gif . I definetly hope the second is shorter than 30 hours laugh.gif

CosmetologyMommy replied: I was induced and was in labor for 18 hours snooze.gif and pushed for 1/2 hour.... huh.gif

luvmykids replied: This was kinda funny; after I had the twins the doctor came to check on me and said "How's your bottom?" I had no idea what he was talking about and said "Fine, I think the epi wore off enough for me to go to the bathroom if I need to" The nurse just laughed and told him I hadn't needed stitches and I still had no idea what they were talking about!

TeagansMom609 replied: Ok, now that I can officially answer this question, lol, I will. Yes, my second labor was alot quicker and easier then my first. ALOT easier. It was 7 hours rather than 12. And I pushed for 10 minutes rather than 2 hours. thumb.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied: My water broke with Jade, but I still had a 14 hour labor with about an hour of pushing. I was induced with Jordan and that labor was 12 hours long with about 15 mins of pushing.

BAC'sMom replied: First- 29 1/2 hrs
Second- 4 hours (induced)
Third- 4 hours (induced)
