How long does your baby nap?

momof2girls wrote: My baby is 7 months old and during the day she may take 2 half hour naps and she has been that way for about 3 months now.
Most night she does sleep thru the night but she does not go to bed until about 11 because I cant get her to sleep before then. She will sleep until 10 the next day if we let her, most days we have to have my older daughter to school by then.

I dont think she gets enough sleep but I cant get her to nap longer!

Any suggestions? My friends have babies that take naps for hours during the day and then sleep at night....

CantWait replied: Is your baby happy during the day? If so then she may not need to nap. Robbie takes an hour nap around 11:30 in the afternoon, and wakes up at around 8:00, he's also up a few times in the middle of the night at the moment though. He'll take another nap later in the day and it's usually a bit longer. He's cranky though if he doesn't have his naps. And he's always changing. He just settled into this specific nap routine though the last month or so. Before that he had a bunch of scattered naps for very short periods. All babies are different though, some might sleep a little bit at a time at a bunch of times, and some sleep for longer periods once or twice.

Yes she is pretty happy all the time but around 4-5 she starts looking really tired so she will nap for about 20 mins and then she is ready to go again.
At night for the last week she has been in that over tired mode where she is just fighting her sleep and its almost impossible to get her to sleep.

Your right though she may not really need that much during the day, I guess when they are really tired they will take a nap....

mummy2girls replied: jenna goes to bed at night at around 830, sleeps till 8am (on weekends).. she naps from 1pm to 3pm then she is up until 8pm again

pinka_star replied: Emma takes one nap during the day, if that. She doesn't like naps much either, and I have to struggle most days. She isn't really that cranky though, but by the time bed time rolls around boy is she ever cranky and tired!!! lol Marie is right though, all babies are different. I wouldn't worry about it if she's not fussy during the day.

ediep replied: Jay goes to bed at 8pm, wakes up about 6-7am and naps for 2 hours or so at 1pm. He is extremely cranky if he doesn't get enough sleep, so I would say if your little one is happy, that may be all the sleep her body needs

Julie (jem0622) replied: When Gabe was that young, he took an AM and a PM nap. The AM nap was usually at least an hour if not two hours. The PM nap was always two hours if not three hours. He was an atrocious night sleeper at that age. Only slept in 3 hour spurts and then wanted up to nurse.

Nathan (4) was a cat napper but once he got to at least 7 mos he was taking a regular afternoon nap for at least two hours and slept in 4 hour stretches at night.

It sounds to me like her body clock is out of whack. Do you have a night routine? With the boys I always give them a bath and then they get jammies on, have a snack, watch a 30 minute show (with little lights on to calm them), and then off to bed for stories/lights out. They are both usually down by 8:30. Nathan is sometimes up until 9 PM if he took a nap that day.

Have you started solids? If not then she might be ready and it might make her rest easier for you.

Elle replied: My kids sleep only at night, but they're not cranky at all so I believe they get enough sleep...
At 7 months, all of them had 2 naps of 30 minutes in the morning & afternoon, and that was it. blink.gif

kimberley replied: lol Marie! i saw that too. that is something i would do!

Jade has never been a napper since she was about 3mos old but she does sleep through the night (occasionally feeding once and going back to sleep). lately she has been sleeping for about an hour in the morning and maybe 20 minutes in the afternoon but most of the time she just catnaps (5-10 minutes here and there). she doesn't normally fall asleep before 11pm but doesn't wake up before 9am.

every baby is different. try not to get into the habit of comparing your baby to others or you will drive yourself insane. trust me, BTDT! lol

A&A'smommy replied: Alyssa usually takes about two naps a day one around 4 or 4:30pm (unless she gets woke up in the process grrrrr phone)and then the other around 7:30 or 8pm and she will sleep until I go pick my husband up.
