How long did you bleed post partum?
amynicole21 wrote: I remember having bleeding for about 5 weeks with Sophia, but this time around it seems to be over and it hasn't even been 2 weeks yet! If I exert myself too much it starts back up, but it has been away for 3 days in a row now... very strange. I did have very heavy bleeding for the first week or so... I wonder if I just got it all out of my system quickly this time?
kit_kats_mom replied: I was done in about 10 days with Lauren.
gr33n3y3z replied: the first one about 2 weeks and then I got AF later on the 3rd week and the other 3 less then a week but they say it depends on the person
Hillbilly Housewife replied: With Zach, about 1 week of heavy bleeding, then about 3 weeks of this brown colored stuff, I wouldn't really say blood...... tmi, sorry....
With EMilie, it was about 3 days bleeding, then about 6 more of the brown liqidy stuff....
ediep replied: I think I had only about 2 weeks of bleeding with Jason.
mom2tripp replied: I had a C-section with Tripp and bled pretty hard for about 2-3 weeks and then light brown for about 6 more---it seemed to never end!!!!
A&A'smommy replied: I bled for two weeks or less actually
lisar replied: I had a c-section with my forsdt one and was done in about 2wks but found that if I do some kind of maual labor that it would start back up. The dr then told me it was normal to stop and start again. I wouldnt worry to much about it though.

akbutterfly83 replied: I was done like 2 weeks or so.... but I don't know if it makes a differance, that I had a c/s.....
kimberley replied: it was different with each pg. Jacob it was about 4-5wks . and i could barely walk for that time either. James it was about 3-4wks but i was walking around an hour after. Jade was about 2wks. all 3 were really heavy for the first week or two then normal flow to spotting for the rest of the time. i wonder if it has to do with how long you labor and push for. Jacob was about 10hrs or so and almost 2hrs of pushing. James and Jade were close to 5hrs of labor and 10min or less of pushing.
5littleladies replied: I bled for about 2-3 weeks with each baby.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I was about 5 weeks with Katy and under 2 with Matt...It also took a lot longer to get my period back after Matt
mummy2girls replied: Jordan was 6 weeks.. jenna was 3 weeks...
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Mine was for about 3 weeks for Jade and then I guess AF showed up because it stopped and then started again after a while.
~KARA~ replied: Im pretty sure it only lasted abot 2 weeks with both girls.
DansMom replied: I'm pretty sure it was 5 or 6 weeks, but only bad the first 2 or 3.
Jamielou replied: I had c-sections with both my girls and with Carley it lasted 3 weeks at the most and with Delaney it was 7 to 8 weeks i thought it would never end 2nd time around
coasterqueen replied: it took me 6 weeks this time.
aricka replied: I bleed for 8 weeks (I also had a c-section)
Kaitlin'smom replied: about 2 weeks and I had c/s
homebizmom replied: I bled heavily for 5-6 weeks with my son, Isaiah. I was very concerned because it seemed that it wasn't getting any lighter. ( I was 19 yrs old at the time, and didn't know about all these great pregnancy resources out there!) My doctor told me I was fine. Then one day when I was going to the bathroom, a 3-4 inch piece of the placenta came out into the toilet (sorry if this is gross!). Then I stopped bleeding. So that's what was wrong...some of the placenta was left in my uterus and it took that long for my body to expel it after birth. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?
raysnroof replied: There can be different factors at work in why some woman blee longer than others. Physical extersion and the care received by your birth attendants will factor in naturally, but diet also plays an important part in this. There are cerain foods and herbs that can actually help reduce bleeding, even internal bleeding. Believe it or not, cayenne is one of them! If you happen to eat more foods with cayenne (even a tiny bit of this goes a long way) you could expereince less bleeding. There are other ways you can also more actively promote a styptic result, in case you wondered. A lemon juice duche, or a calendula (marigold) duche, or Shephard's Purse taken internally as a tea or in tincture drops or used as a duche are all excellent ways to reduce bleeding. In fact, Shephard's Purse is a wonderful substitute for pitocin in the case of post pardom hemmorhage. Drinking red raspberry leaf tea during pregngnacy and after pregnancy will also reduce issues of long term post pardom bleeding. Certain actions taken during your labor or immediatley afterward can also contribute to the length of time that a woman bleeds post pardom. Some doctors have made it a practice to yank on the umbilical cord after the baby is born instead of allowing for a spontaneous birth of the placenta. This creates a larger and more sever wound, contributes to issues of more severe pp hemorrhaging, and can increase the amount of time needed for the pacental wound to heal. If you would like more info on bleeding issues regarding c-sections, you can check out www.ican-online.org A woman who tries to move around for more than to go to the bathroom or care for the baby in the first six weeks also increases her chances of more severe pp bleeding. A woman does herself and any future children she may have a great favor by staying down for at least the first four weeks after pregnancy. Many woman are now told that if they see no bleeding, they are fine. This is not even true, but I may be getting off onto another issues. In short, there is no exact length of time because there are far too many factors that can be mixed and matched. I do hope this helps someone in the future shorten her post pardom healing time and reduce future problems.
