How hot is your house?

PrairieMom wrote: Going OT on my PT post got me thinking. what temp do you like to keep your house at in the winter?
and just for perspective, what are the normal weather conditions for you in the winter?

PrairieMom replied: I voted 68-70. Our winters here are cold, and we have very little transition between hot and cold weather , so when things cool down it is a very striking difference. We can go from 80's to 50's in less than a week. rolleyes.gif
Generally our winters days are between 0 and 20 degrees with negative wind chills, and 20-30 MPH winds, so we need our heaters. Even tho I live in a newer house, (8 years Old) you can still feel the cold in some corners of the house, and coming in through some of the windows.
Our heater works almost constantly to keep us at that temp.

Momof3inMe replied: We are in Maine and it's cold here. I like to keep our house at 70 but at night I do turn it down some. I would say night is more like 66-68.

moped replied: Ok, so Tom keeps it cooler at night, about 66, and during the day it is on a timer throughout, so it goes to about 68.

I live in a VERY cold climate.

Personally I am always turning the heat up and am always cold, but Tom says we sleep best at that temperature from his research and that is what he does for a living is HVAC.

coasterqueen replied: We use geothermal and right now it's set at 73 and it's COLD in there. I think it's hard to gage temps in peoples' homes because of where the thermostat may be located. That makes a HUGE difference - also what type of heating system. We've noticed with geothermal that our thermostat is set HIGHER for air and heat, but on our old system it was set lower - BUT it runs less on the new system. Also our stat is located in the central part of our home (normal), but the kitchen heats up the area where the stat is so much that the other "wings" of the home are colder. rolleyes.gif

MommyToAshley replied: We keep our house at 68 throughout the year -- winter and summer. The only time it may differ is spring and fall when we have the windows open.

Oh... forgot to add, it's cold here in the winter and hot in the summer (usually).

PrairieMom replied:
I would FREEZE to death in the summer at 68!!!!!! holy WOW! 73 would be comfortable for me in the summer time, but since I don't use the AC it isn't uncommon for my house to get to 83 degrees or so in the evenings.

MommyToAshley replied:
Ashley would never sleep at your house. I remember that I was a little chilly one night this past summer and turned the AC up to 70. Ashley couldn't sleep and kept complaining about how hot it was so I turned it back down and added another cover to myself. LOL

cameragirl21 replied: I keep my AC at 78 during the day and 80 at night.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: When we lived in CO we would set the thermostat at 64 during the winter and didn't have AC so during the summer it was whatever the ceiling fans made it smile.gif

here we have no real seasons. It is definitely hotter in the summer though we had a heatwave last January and it was 90 for a couple weeks. The house has no AC and the only time i turn the heat on is if my dad is coming over during the winter and it is below 60 inside. Even then it is on for an hour or so before we expect him and off as soon as he leaves.

moped replied:
WOW you must roast!!!!!!!! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
I get cold easily. When company comes over, I turn it down to 76ish but at night I can't handle it very cold at all.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I keep it around 68 in the day and 64 at night. DH sets it to 74 or so so its a constant back and forth in our house. rolleyes.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: I am in SUNNY SOUTH CAROLINA!!

We keep our house at about 76 day and night. Right now..

Im thinking in the winter we will lower that a little bit. Our AC runs very little though we often turn it off during the day during the fall months ...

However you have WAY worse winters than we do ... our low is like 30 in the DEAD of winter.

But a summer here is 100+ smile.gif

luvmykids replied: It's 76 in the house right now and feels just right without having had the air on. I've had to run both the heat and the A/C in the last few weeks rolleyes.gif But I try to keep it at 70 in the winter....sounds high but I think something is wrong with the heater because even then it is freeeeezing upstairs.

I've only had half a winter here, and it was surprisingly similar to a mild winter in NM...temps in the 40's, ice storms, bitter wind, etc. but actually felt colder. I think it's because of the humidity, the damp air felt colder to me than the dry air in NM.
