How do you take the temp of your little one?
Momof3inMe wrote: DD has been sick for about 4 days now and has had a low grade fever. I have been taking her temp under her arm but she doesn't sit still well for this. I was wondering how other people take the temps of thier little ones. Do you have a game or something you play to keep them quiet?
Tylersmommy replied: under the arm because he would never let me put it under his tounge I don't have an ear thermometor and rectal just creeps me out so yeah under the arm sounds good
kayla's mama replied: We are going through this right now too.
What I do is do the ittsy bitsy spider on her. I start at her feet and work my way up. I do it about 2-3 times then the thermometer is done.
Hope she gets feeling better
eta: I use under the arm
mckayleesmom replied: I have one of those instant ear ones.
BAC'sMom replied:
Ditto
booey2 replied: We have an ear one and I never really trusted it and turns out the doctors office doesn't either. I mostly use one under the arm and usually just cuddle with the child til it goes off. Mine reads in about 10 seconds depending on how high the temp is.
Momof3inMe replied: Do you think they work well? I have heard mixed things about the ear ones.
mckayleesmom replied: Yes.....I have also asked my doctors office about the accuracy and they said they were usually right on.
Lynda836 replied: we usually use a soother thermometer...DS is only 5 months and won't be still for under arm ones
5littleladies replied: I used to do under the arm, but now we have an ear thermometer. All our doctors use them and our local hospital so I trust the accuracy.
mckayleesmom replied: They use them at our doctors also.....
My3LilMonkeys replied: We use the ear also, that is what Dr. recommended.
holley79 replied: My Dr recommended the rectal check. Thank goodness I have only had to do it once. This is what they use at the Dr's office. Annika doesn't like to have her arm pressed against her and I couldn't get a reading with the paci therm. I am going to get a ear one though because I'm not big on the whole rectal thing.
TeagansMom609 replied: Well when they are newborns I always do rectal. Once they get a little older I use a good ear thermometer. Teagan loves having her temp. checked with the ear one.
MamaJAM replied: We use an ear thermometer....I know they aren't considered the most accurate - but you definately get a very close temp with them. I refuse to do a rectal (have never done it with any of my kids). Before we got our first ear therm we did the under-the-arm one -- we just told DD silly stories to keep her from wiggling too much in the 7 mins it took.
KingMom replied: I still take Colin's rectally, since that is what my doctor does. Once he gets a little bigger I think we will go with the ear thermometer.
luvmykids replied: I have a medical grade temporal artery one, the kind you skim across the forehead. It's very accurate.
~~*Missi*~~ replied: i still do Sabrina's in the bum its the most accurate and she doesn't even get phased by it so....
Mom2Boyz replied: I just bought one of those, but havn't needed to use it just yet (thank God). I've heard they work really well though.
