How do you... - sort?

MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: I am laundry obsessed. laugh.gif
Aaron usually does the laundry and I admit that while I like that, he has ruined more than a few things. If a shirt is mostly white, but has dark sleeves, he'll still throw it in with the bleach. Usually it is Logan's shirts, but a few of them have been mine.
When I do the laundry I sort into whites, light colors, dark colors, and do a load of jeans and towels. I probably make more loads than I need to, but I have smaller ones to fold and they dry faster.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I used to sort laundry, and I still do with reds and such. But most of our regular wear is Chris' uniform shirts, and his blue/black shorts, and my scrubs for class. I typically wash those separate from everything else, since I do not want lint getting onto them. But most other things besides reds, I wash together. Jeans, kids clothes that do not bleed, to lounge around the house t-shirts are washed together with towels if need be. Bed linens are washed separately from everything since they take up a big load already, plus I use hot water when washing linens, and sometimes towels.

gr33n3y3z replied: what does sort mean? lol
I dont use bleach at all unless I have to
If i do its an all white load

But if you watch the clothes dry in the dryer you will see a multi color action going on in there blush.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I actually have a 4th...I do whites, lights, darks, and reds get there own

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Thank heavens, I am not alone. I don't own much red, so it doesn't get it's own load. But I wash all red things by themselves the first time before they are worn. I have found that that seems to keep them from bleeding.

coasterqueen replied: I used to sort religiously. Then DH had to wash all his own clothes while in Louisiana and while he was there he just threw everything in together, no sorting. When he got home he asked me why I wasted my time sorting because they come out the same if you don't. He's actually right, at least for us they do. If I have something new I'll wash everything on cold, but otherwise it's usually on the normal setting. I used to sort the kids from ours too but now that Megan doesn't have to use sensitive detergent they all go in together. We've saved a lot of extra load washing this way and money. happy.gif

BAC'sMom replied: Whites, Colored, Jeans, Towels + linens

ZandersMama replied: The only sorting i do is take out DH clothes from mine and the boys... tongue.gif

holley79 replied: I voted, Sort, what's sort. rolling_smile.gif The only thing I don't wash with my clothes is the towels. Other then that there is no method to my madness. emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied: I'm ROFL because just this morning, sorting laundry, I was wondering the exact same thing! rolling_smile.gif If I was the only one so anal about sorting laundry ...

Since we have so much laundry I have a load for bleach whites, regular whites, towels, sheets, blues/greens, reds/purples/pinks, denim (which can't get softener because then they're harder to starch for my little cowboy rolleyes.gif ), yellows/oranges/browns, and delicates (why did I buy the girls those fru fru church dresses? unsure.gif )

I don't worry about load size because my machine automatically uses the right amount of water for each load and since I put clothes away in those same color groups it just makes it easier.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: dh makes fun of me but sees the method to my madness smile.gif We do have enough red to warrant it's own load it just usually takes us 2 weeks to fill it instead of 1. And I do no extra loads...they are all full loads no matter

BAC'sMom replied:

Yes, honey you are an anal laundry sorter wink.gif or you have to much time on your hands. rolling_smile.gif NOT!

But I love you anyway. biggrin.gif

mammag replied: Mine are.....

towels
socks & undies
bedding & curtains when needed
light colors
darks
reds
whites

If I've got enough loads (like most of the time when I get behind) I'll then seperate by the thickness of the material (jeans alone, heavy sweatshirts, thin material) and I also do delicates seperate.

I do this though because I have a LOT of laundry with 6 of us here. If I didnt' have so much I'd probably throw anything lighter colored together....and so on to save numbers of loads.

Boys r us replied: I vote OTHER!

I seperate as follows:

Kids laundry only washed together and gets broke down into

socks/undies
lights
darks
jeans

Rest of the household laundry as follows:

Towels
jeans
whites
lights
darks

My3LilMonkeys replied: I don't sort. Everything goes together, gets cold water and dye/scent free detergent. If something doesn't get clean the first time, I shout it and rewash. I have never had a problem with bleeding and very few problems with stains.

5littleladies replied: I wish I could sort but I have so much freaking laundry-good grief. I sort by people though. I try and wash everyones clothes separately and I try to sort everything into loads that make it easier on me for putting it away, but it usually doesn't happen that way. I am soooo behind on my laundry. bawling.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: i have a load of towels, a load of red, a load of white, a load of dark, and load of socks and underwear.

That's a lot less anal than it used to be.

amynicole21 replied: Lights, darks and towels now that I'm using regular detergent for Nora's stuff. wink.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: All of our towels are white, but they still get their own load.

So, I sort as follows....towels, dark colors, light colors, whites (socks, undies, t-shirts), bed linens.

I'm VERY anal about my laundry. Not only the way it is sorted, but the settings each group of clothes is on and what detergent is used and if softener or bleach is used, etc. And I don't dry everything so that's a whole other story. wink.gif

My mother did laundry at my house after Ethan was born and she threw everything in there together....not the same results. I'm way too picky about my clothes, I guess. blush.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: I despise laundry and would run around in paper clothes if I could. But since that'll get you 30 days in the city jail, I opt for washing most everything together, however I need to get a full load. I try to wash towels by themselves, but sometimes I'll add some old t-shirts or jeans in with them. And we don't own white things other than socks/underwear, so they look a little dingy most of the time. About once every 2 months I'll go through and get all of them and bleach them good, but only when I think about it and have time.
Like I said, I despise it... laugh.gif

Nina J replied: Whites, towels, colors. I love laundry happy.gif

zdk753 replied: I don't sort. It all gets thrown in together until the washer's full & that's it. The only time is if I know it will bleed the first time I wash it than I will wash it seperatly.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: The only time I sort is when I am washing something new ~ I've accidentally washed new jeans or something with everything else and had it bleed all over. rolleyes.gif But other than that I really don't care. tongue.gif I've never had anything bad happen yet. happy.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: I have do Whites, Colors, Jeans, Towels + Linens.

Of course that will probably change when Isabella gets here. When I washed all of her clothes for the first time, I just threw them all in together. Which, is what has seemingly happend since Sal has taken over laundry since my bed rest keeps me mostly IN BED or actually, I think he just got sick of the laundry beginning to pile up, but since he has been doing it, it is pretty much all ONE LOAD, unless he needs to wash his Whites for work, then he grabs all of HIS SHIRTS and UNDIES and puts them in, sometimes grabbing a few of mine wink.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: I just sort into:
lights-towels, undies, undershirts etc,
other darks-including jeans,
and DH's dress clothes since they have to come out of the dryer fast, less ironing for me!!

I've found myself thinking of you all a lot when I do laundry because we've had so many discussions on products we all use. I admit, I've become a laundry product junkie!! Detergent-must be liquid, Gain liquid softener, shout for stains in the pre-wash, and sometimes a scoop of Oxi-clean!

ashtonsmama replied: I love the "Sort, what's sort?" option!
blush.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: my sorting was not an option

whites (hot with bleach), towels/sheets (hot), Darks (cold), Brights (cold) &Lights (warm) lights are kakhis, pinks etc.

So a minimum of 5 loads per week. How sick is that?
