How can I put thisn icely
My2Beauties wrote: OK I have a friend who emails me literally every 2-3 minutes at work. She is a wonderful person and I love her to death, she is a great friend and I wouldn't trade her for the world but her emails are sooooooooooo annoying. Sometimes she likes to e-mail me one thing, thinks of something else, e-mails that and keeps both threads going all day long! Every e-mail she sends me is about how she doens't feel good (she is 7 months preggo, but this went on before she was preggo), about how her daughter is sick, about how her fiance is sick, about her boss being a butthole. The girl is a freaking hypochondriac, her poor daughter has turned into one, she says everyday her little girl calls her (she's 4 years old) and has something wrong with her, she has a tummyache, her ear hurts, she can't poop, she has a sort throat, her throat is red, she has a rash, etc etc...I mean this is everyday there is something wrong wither her! In the morning when she e-mails me she complains about being swollen, the next minute she is really tired and sick to her stomach, the next minute she has drainge in her sinuses and a headache, I mean this is all day long! Then the next minute she is telling me about her family's problems, her sister's endometriosis, her other sister's cysts on her ovaries, her mother's cells that they think may come back cancerous, I'm like is anyone in your family healthy at all...my LORD! I mean she has always been this way, I used to work with her at my last company and the reason she was let go was because (you guessed it ) calling in sick and leaving early due to her daughter being sick or her being sick!
My question is - how do I nicely tell her that I enjoy her emails but not every 2 minutes and not wanting to know every single detail the snot coming out of her nose and the fact that she has sinus drainage?????????
TANNER'S MOM replied: Tell her it is company POLICY!
That everyone cut down on personal email. Let her know they could be reading what she is..and they could.
And tell you to drop you a short line every now and then so you don't get in trouble! Mel
mom21kid2dogs replied: This might be an occasion where I'd use my polite lie card! "You know _______, they asked us to limit the amount of personal email we recieve to 2-3 per day. Could you just get me one big email instead of the little ones so I can keep up with my work and keep the powers that be happy?"
ITA hear you about how people "learn" those behaviors. I met up recently with a girl I grew up with. Her mom always had some malady or another and Chris has gotten to be just like her. It's like a bloomin' record!!
My2Beauties replied: Those are good ones guys!
I mean seirously look at some of these emails she has sent
We are making sure of that. Girl I am completely wore out. I don't know how much more I can take today. I am about to kill over. My whole body aches. 1 hour and 20 minutes to go. I am going to send you a puzzle. Maybe that will help speed up time. LOL....
and another
I took some cough medicine. I am waiting for it to kick in. I swear this day is going by so damn slow. I can't breath girl, my chest feels so heavy. I hate getting a dag on cold. I am so tired, I just want to go home...
and another
Girl when it rains it pours around me. I am sick, my mom has cancer, my sister is having financial problems, what else is going to go wrong. IS TODAY EVER GOING TO END!!!!!!
and another
My ears are hurting, and I am so congested. I am about to take some medicine, but I don't want to be tired.
I mean this is just today, this was in a matter of maybe 45 minutes! I'm like oh my goodness please quit sending me emails! I wait as long as possible to reply but I don't want her emails just sitting on my desktop in red neither for them to be unread - that is a pet peeve of mine! I mean now you guys get what I am saying! I like your ideas
3_call_me_mama replied: Ask her for daily digest so to speak... all the little quirks saved into one email , tell her as others suggested that it's company policy to limit personal emails and tell her that you enjoy her helping your day pass but one or two emails will suffice adn keep you out of trouble,\
gr33n3y3z replied: answer one and tell her your to busy to keep going back and forth like this lol This way your not hurting her feelings Or just come out and say you are depressing me
mammag replied: I was going to say the exact same thing! New company policy...
Kaitlin'smom replied: I say do the company policy thing
and waite she is taking cough meds while pg?
either way say something...good luck
coasterqueen replied: I don't know but you made me think about how my Dh must feel. I send him a bazillion emails a day. Not so much these days since Megan came but before that.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Holy Cow! That would get old really fast. I think the company policy idea is a good one!
Karen ~ Ryan's your husband it's his job to listen to your every complaint!
DVFlyer replied: What if you stopped responding to her? Do you think she would find someone else's shoulder to cry on? If she asks, you can tell her you've been very busy.
Another idea would be to tell her that the boss asked you about sick employees. If she thinks they were reading e-mails, she would probably stop.
Or........... tell her that you don't like getting so many e-mails and are really too busy for them and to please stop. She might be mad for a day or so, but I'm sure she'll get over it.
Annoying people suck
Mylilprincesses replied: The company policy idea is a good one.
The only other thing I was gonna say is stop answering all of them and towards the end of the day or something, answer them in ONE email, maybe she'll get the hint too?
I hate that when people use email the same way they would a darn instant messenging service How irritating.
ediep replied: i am a wimp when it comes to maybe hurting peoples feelings even if it is warrented, so I'd just stop reading them and stop responding. If she asks about it, I'd maybe say that the work firewall has stopped letting personal emails through so you haven't been getting them I am such a wimp
jcc64 replied: Gotta love that delete button......right up there with caller ID.
guertin31 replied: is she emailing you at work?
JAYMESMOM replied: I would go with the company policy. Also suggest she email you one at night - she can add to it thru out the day. You can then chose to read it or just respond with have a good night.
guertin31 replied: Create an automatic reply rule that automaticly replies random messages like "Oh wow" or "I can't believe it" or "Sounds like you know what your doing" or "LOL"
I use that rule for my boss...
elvisfan replied: Well, I think everyone else took the words right out of my mouth! That would be incredibly annoying. I would definitely use some of the suggestions above.
A&A'smommy replied: OMG how annoying!!!
kel replied: how annoying! tell her you are battling to keep up with her mails (being so busy @ work and all) and could she just send you one looooong mail? jeez i dunno what i would do besides make up some b-s story like that
