Home Pregnancy Test

krystyn wrote: Hello...I just have a question and wondering if anyone else has been through this. I had my period January 20 and should be starting again within the next couple days. I have pretty regular 28-29 day cycles. I started feeling "strange" and thought I might be pregnant. I bought two different hpt's. Answer Early result and the new EPT +/- early reult. Yesterday I tested negative with the Answer and had a faint postivie on the EPT. This morning I went to a local outpatient to get a blood test. It's just the regular yes or no test. It came out negative as well but the doc said it could still be too early. Well, I left the doc's office and went straight to the drugstore and bought an Answer and and EPT again. Exact same results. Faint positive on the EPT and a definite negative on the Answer. It's so confusing. I know all I can do is wait but it's frustrating. I called the EPT hotline and they said that any plus sign meant that the test was positve but then why would the blood test say negative?? wacko.gif

angelhair replied: I would retest with a blood test around the time your period is due. blood tests are usually more accurate then hpt and can pick up trace amounts of hcg in the blood that hpt cannot. did you read it within the time alloted because if you wait to long you could read eveopation lines. I would talk to your ob/gyn who can give you more accurate information. when is you af due agian this month? even the early tests can be misleading.

krystyn replied: I definitely read it within the allotted time and the line althouth faint was a definite blue color. It popped up right away--under two minutes. My period is due on the 17th. I decided I'm going to let my daughter pee on the other ept test when she gets home from school and see if it does the same thing to her. smile.gif Maybe I should let my husband pee on it too. LOL

moped replied: I would retest at a later day - like in a week or so. When I was pregnant the first time it said no and I really was.........so wait a bit if you can and test again.................sure hope so!

MommyToAshley replied: LOL about letting your daughter and husband pee on the test! laugh.gif

You may be PG, but just too early to show up on all the tests? I would give it a few days and then test again. I know it is sooo hard to wait! Let us know what happens when you test again!

krystyn replied: Okay... my daughter thinks I'm officially crazy that I asked her to take the test and she did. She's not pregnant!! rolling_smile.gif Hopefully this means that I am and this just happens to be the test that works for me. I'm not going to get my hopes up yet though but I will let everyone know what happens in a couple days. Thanks for the support!! : )

paradisemommy replied: definitely wait until you at least miss your period. i was at the doctor on a friday (i was pretty sure i was pg but was still about 3 days early for being late with my period). they did a test and she came back and told me - nope but keep trying!! the next sunday (3 days later), i was officially late (i'm always on time, like clockwork) - i waited until like wed or thurs and took a couple tests and both came up positive, went back to the dr. and this time, definite positive - so it's probably just too early to tell -

Tamatha replied: It seems like I remember reading somewhere that a woman can have small traces of hcg in her blood even if she isn't pregnant. So if you took the blood test too early, what may really be pregnancy could be showing up within the normal limits of a non-pregnant woman?? Or maybe I'm just losing my mind!

I would reiterate what other girls have said--wait a few days, and if you haven't started, re-test. And let us know!!!

krystyn replied: Well it's official. I'm not pregnant as of this morning. I guess EPT wasn't the test for me. bawling.gif Just be careful if anyone decides to use it. It's the newest one out there and it showed a blue positive immediately. I also made my non pregnant daughter pee on it to see if it would do the same. Hers showed no positive at all but a couple hours later it had a distinct evaporation line.

Anyway... this was only our first time trying since we lost a pregnancy last summer. I'm trying to be positive and am going go focus on being healthier and happier and giving my baby the best place possible to grow healthy and strong. Do you think Ovulation predictor tests are a good idea?

KindredSpirits replied: I'm not really sure about Ovulation tests, although I've heard the saliva one (Ovulite) is pretty good....

In the meantime, I'm going to TTC in April, and I started reading the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility"
This book is a world of great information, about how you can tell (naturally) when you're fertile by just checking your cervical fluid and temps. It's really helpful, and shows you how to really know your own body.

I highy recommend it, it's by Toni Weschler, MPH.

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

angelhair replied: just to reassure you you can get pregnant after a miscarriage, I did after three in a row and am now 18 and a half weeks pregnant with a girl. three ultraosunds including a level two showed my baby girl is fine so far. Also clear blue fertility moniter is great although expensice, you may be able to get a deal on e bay. it targets your low high and peak ovulation dates. good luck!!! by the way, did you get your af or did the test show up negative recently? just wondered how you knew you were not pregnant? love dee

kit_kats_mom replied:
I used the software that I downloaded from the tcoyf site to conceive my first dd. I highly reccomend it ifyou are so inclined. It actually told me I was pregnant and to go get it confirmed. Since I had such wacky cycles, I was really just using it to try to figure out my peak time...it took exactly 3 cycles for a baby.

maestra replied:
Only took me 1! I used it to conceive Giselle. wub.gif

krystyn replied:

I got my AF. Oh well : ( .... Thank you for the reassurance and I will try all the suggestions.

Littlejojames replied: How confusing for you.......

I'm sure that it will be your turn soon.....

krystyn replied: smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif Next month trying and I just took a First Response 4 days before my period is due. No doubt about it that I got a positive. It's light but it's for sure a positive. I wasn't going to test so soon but when I didn't have a taste for my nightly glass of wine I wondered whether I could be pregnant or not. Looks like I am. Finally... wink.gif

iluvmysweetiepies replied: Congratulations!! smile.gif

krystyn replied: Well I went to the local outpatient clinic today to get a blood test to make sure I'm pregnant even though I've been testing positive on the HPT's. It's for sure positve! biggrin.gif Now I will call and make an appt. with my ob/gyn. Anyway.. the first day of my lmp was Feb. 16 and I have 28 day cycles. I tested positive a full week before my period started---I have been keeping complete and perfect record of my cycle since I started ttc so I know i'm not off. Is it possible I ovulated earlier and conceived earlier than what I thought or could I just have a high amount of hcg?

A&A'smommy replied: WOW congratulations!!! thumb.gif thumb.gif

Mommy2BAK replied: baby.gif CONGRATULATIONS!!!! baby.gif

MommyToAshley replied: WOW! CONGRATS!!!

I don't know that you will ever be able to tell when you conceived for sure... not everyone ovulates exactly in the middle of their cycle. But, you will probably get an ultrasound around your second month to date the pregnancy and they can come pretty close to your due date.

I'm happy for you, Congrats again! thumb.gif Be sure to update us how your first appointment goes!

I am new to the board, and pretty sure I am pregnant. I was going through reading all of these posts, and Krystn, you are close to my expected due date. I thought it'd be fun to communicate. Are you posting on the other pregnancy board? I hope all is well, and look forward to getting to know you all!
