Read it.
So that means I can go and rob a Home depot and not worry about getting caught or them calling the cops.
Twelve Volt Man replied: Our local Lowe's is the same way. Makes no sense to me.
HuskerMom replied: Wow that's sad. Dh used to work at shopko in highschool in MST. He had to catch shoplifters and stay with them in the managers office til the cops came. There was a couple times he had to chase them out to the parking lot. He wasn't in loss-prevention but he had help the guy that was.

Calimama replied: Ditto.
gr33n3y3z replied: no wonder the prices are high and the stores all look like crap they all cant last that long going at that rate of giving stuff away bc thats what they are doing when they let them go
msoulz replied: I'll bet there once was an employee who was injured while trying to detain a thief and sued the company, won big, and hence a policy was born.
Celestrina replied: When I worked in a jewelry store, we were not permitted to chase after them or call anyone until after they left. We had to assume that the thieves were carrying weapons and would react to our actions.
lisar replied: Allright the way I see it is that I want a new lawn mower and a new grill if they arent gona call the cops or chase after me then why cant I do it???? (J/K I wouldnt actually do it)

stella6979 replied: I could maybe understand if the guy had chased them down and tried to apprehend them himself, but all he did was call the cops. I just don't get it and I feel really bad that three people lost their jobs because of it.
TheOaf66 replied: wow, guess it wouldn't be to tough to steal from home depot
we had a situation like that when I worked at Walmart...a couple of my coworkers had to tackle a guy who had 3K worth of merchandise and they commended them for it...I guess Wally World doesn't like shoplifters as much
jcc64 replied: I wonder what the legal reason is for the policy- safety of the workers, perhaps? Of course, good policy allows for the application of common sense.
Miranda1127 replied: wow, thats crazy. but it is common practice in most big company stores. people steal, store does nothing to stop them, than all of a sudden there are price hikes so i guess the honest people get to pay for the thief’s bad behavior
