Hmmm, Not sure how I feel about this ad.
Crystalina wrote: It's a PETA ad for spaying and neutering your pets. I guess it will only be airing in NY. It's kinda of ok on the adult level because adults "get it" but will a kid understand the message behind the message???
The vids on the PETA page so you may see other things as well when clicking the link. Click at your own risk for sensitive people. D/T a pic of a rabbit on there.
PETA
Kaitlin'smom replied: I get the message but that is WAY over the line.
Crystalina replied: It's a bit humorous on a sick level (because of the teen pg thing). I'm just afraid not all the younger kids will get it. I wonder what channels and what hours it will air. If an adult is not around and a child of Izabella's age sees it .... Yikes!
We don't get PETA commercials on my Dishnetwork so I'm not sure how they run.
Crystalina replied: OMG! I just realized that at the very end the mom says, "My little girls gonna get some!"
Wow!
My3LilMonkeys replied: ITA it sends the wrong message for kids who may be too young to understand it - or for anyone who's listening but not actively watching the screen to read the PETA parts.
Our Lil' Family replied: OMG, that was absolutely horrendous. I am stunned that the FCC would allow that. I get the point but that is not the way to go about it. There really are no family values on tv anymore are there?
ZandersMama replied: oh. my. god. ewwwwwwwwww
Danalana replied: See, just going by your responses, I know I can't watch it.
lisar replied: I clicked the link and see the bunny and didnt go any farther
Crystalina replied: The bunny is pretty much the only bad pic on there. The video is right to the right of that.
Poor bunny.
My3LilMonkeys replied: The ad itself is not visually horrendous or anything, just morally. Though the picture of the bunny that Crystal warned about is pretty bad.
Basically, the ad is mom & dad talking to their teen daughter. They are encouraging her to have sex, and lots of it. She says "what if I get pregnant" and the parent's response is "that's ok. We'll just dump the baby in a shelter or on the street. It's not important." The message from PETA is that we wouldn't treat our kids like that, so we shouldn't do so to our dogs and cats.
BAC'sMom replied: Nothing that PETA puts out surprises me. They had a child’s comic book about fishing a few years back. It was way over the edge too.
Crystalina replied: Yeah, I can understand caring for animals (Lord knows I care, sometimes more then I can afford to care) but what about the audience that sees this. The kids who won't get it. I'm really worried about when it will air. Hopefully after 9pm at least.
gr33n3y3z replied: I see what its saying
But you see some people do dump their children on the Streets and in Shelters and any where else not going there.
BAC'sMom replied: On I care about animals, but I also care about what my kids are exposed to. I am so darn (really mean the other word) sick of seeing tampon and ED (erectile dysfunction) commercials I could spit. I dread the day I have to explain that one to my kids.
Crystalina replied: That part would really hit home for some. It happens almost every day.
Calimama replied: That's sick.
doublebubble replied: Sick, sick sick.
DVFlyer replied: To serve as a warning.... do not click on the Rabbit..... It is a video propaganda piece for PETA showing VERY disturbing images. I am sick to my stomach right now.
For those who don't want to watch the video the OP is referring to, here it is in a nutshell:
Parents talking with their daughter about sex. They encourage her in an obviously fake/ humorous way to have kids and pop out as many as you can... etc.
At the end it relates that conversation to people with pets.... i.e. you wouldn't let your child keep having babies, so why would you let your pet.
I didn't really have a problem with it, but it might have been because it purged the 10 seconds or so of the first video I watched from my mind....
A&A'smommy replied: ok first of all PETA is takes everything to the extreme and they don't keep their stuff updated, I know this because recently after a friend of mine did some research on resturaunts they said that KFC was using abused chicken WELL that was like 5 years ago they switched (as well as tyson chicken) to more humane way of getting their meat.
There is actually another website that is better I don't trust PETA
Crystalina replied: How about those KY brand commercials that show the couple in bed at the end.
cameragirl21 replied: wow. well, it is typical PETA style and the reaction you all have is EXACTLY what PETA is going for. I think the commercial makes a good point, it IS shocking the way they go about it but like I said, it's so typical of PETA. Idk if kids would get it all, I mean any of it so Idk how much that matters but I can see where it could be inappropriate. Not sure what I think of it--LOVE the message it sends and love the shock factor to a certain degree but I had to pick my jaw up off the ground after watching it, so.... Just hope people get the message so that it's all worth it in the end.
redchief replied: PETA steps up to the plate, 0 - 2. The world pitches... It's a fastball right down the middle! PETA swings and MISSES! STEEE-ruck them out again. I'll tell you, John, PETA's strikeout record is amazing. Even relief pitchers in the American league get more base hits than they do.
MommyToAshley replied: Very poor taste. I can't see any television station actually running that commercial. I wonder if it is an internet only commercial since the internet is not regulated like TV.
HuskerMom replied:
I get the point they wanted to make but I think it's a stupid way to go about it. If someone is just listening to the commercial and not watching they wouldn't get it.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Yeah there's something wrong with that video!
Crystalina replied: CNN said it would air only on NY television. They never said what channels, what hours or how long.
my2monkeyboys replied: I think PETA is just a nutty organization. No offense to anyone here who may support/be a part of it, but it seems that as a whole they care more about animals than humans, and that just isn't right. I love animals, more than I should probably, but not to the detriment of another human. The video doesn't surprise me, and if it aired on a channel/at a time where children would be watching I'd be filing complaints. And for the poster who wrote about the tampon/ED commercials - I'm with you all the way!
