High School reunions?
MyBabeMaddie wrote: Has anyone gone or not gone to any of their reunions? Our first one is coming up (well this spring) People are starting to gather up information about where and when would be good for everyone. I know its only 5 years but I'm still really pumped about it. Any good stories about reunions? Are formal or informal reunions more fun?
lisar replied: Never been to one, I just wanted to say Have fun
edited cause I cant type today
mommymommy replied: Ooh, I didn't go to mind, but have fun at yours!!
luvbug00 replied: school was __ for me, i refuse to go. Hope you have fun though!
lovemy2 replied: We just had our 20th reunion - we had a 5 and a 10 too - I went to some part of all of them - there is usually a formal dinner one nite and then a more informal gathering the next - it is fun to see everyone but I couldn't do the whole weekend thing - its too much....
msoulz replied: I did go to my 5th, and not much had changed at that point. It was fun to see lots of folks and to see that most of them were doing well - actually, everyone who showed up was doing well, and one classmate had gotten married that day and her reception was at the same hall as the reunion, so that was kind of cool.
We went to the 10th and skipped the 20th. 25th is next year!
I think that informal is better - that way everyone can be him/herself and not worry about dressing up and feeling not so comfortable. Plus it will cost less, which is a benefit. The two I attended were at halls and were not really billed as formal, but as they were held at banquet halls, most people dressed up for the occasion. I think it might be cool, especially for the 5th to have it at the school. Hey, maybe that would be interesting for the 25th too so we could see how much it has changed. I may need to suggest that!
mammag replied: I haven't been to any of mine. I had thought about going to my 5th but learned that it was for graduates only, no families. I didn't like that. If I were to go it would have been to show off my 2 babies (1 & 2 at the time). Maybe the person planning it was hoping to "get together" with an ex and didn't want any spouses in the way.
PrairieMom replied: I had to miss mine. They didn't get around to planning it until the last minute, and I of course, had to work, just like i have to work for every single event in my life. grrrrrr
Boo&BugsMom replied: I have very good memories (for the most part) of high school, but I chose not to go to my 10th year reunion (we didn't have a 5th). Not only did we have plans already, but I figured I still see all the people I'd want to see anyways and there is a reason I don't talk to some people anymore. I was told by others who did go, that it was like being in high school all over again (clicks, snobs, immaturity, etc.) so I'm glad I didn't go. You'd think people would change a lot in 10 years, but some don't, sadly.
Calimama replied: My 5th one will be in 2010 and I'm excited!!
A&A'smommy replied: I was homeschooled so no reunions for me but dhs 10th is coming up in 2011
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I had my 15th last summer. It was a blast! Informal, at a bar. Most people wore jeans and a nice top.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I have no plans on attending any of mine. The people I care to see I keep in touch with still.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I had a blast at my 10 year. It lasted 2 days. Friday night was the football game and we had a bonfire afterwards. Saturday morning we toured the high school {that was weird!}, Saturday afternoon was the family picnic where we brought our kids, Saturday night was the more formal dinner.
So it was a mixture of informal/formal and family activities. But it was quite expensive.
Jamison'smama replied: Where did you go to HS Aimee? Jon (DH) was a Lewisville Fighting Farmer but they lived in Carrollton.
I went to my 10 year reunion but I went to a smaller private school so the few people I want to stay in contat with I do but it is always fun to see what has happened to everyone.
stella6979 replied: Same here.
lovemy2 replied: That was actually the fun part of going to mine - there is still the same groups of people who still hang out with the same groups of people almost exclusively - it makes me laugh that so many have really NOT moved on - some of these people I liked, still like but really don't have any inclination to want to hang out with them on a day to day year to year basis - I have the 5 girlfriends I had in HS - we still see each other talk to each other but we also have other lives as well - we can mix each other up in our other lives and do great - some of these people couldn't handle being in a life outside of the HS life they left....its sad but really funny at the same time - its always amazes me when you go to things like that how much life changes but stays the same
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I actually went to high school 2 hours north of here in Wichita Falls. It's on the TX/OK border.
We played the Fighting Farmers in football, though.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: ...and this is why I don't want to go to mine. I have been out of hs for 6yrs...and there are girls still caught up in hs type crap, I am way beyond the drama. I am happy being momma and keep in touch with friends who are now moms too.
luvmykids replied: We don't have the 5yr ones around here, but I did go to my 10 and it was GREAT! We had both formal and informal night....Friday night was formal, Saturday was family stuff, and Saturday night was informal. The whole weekend was a blast and I can't wait for my 20yr. Which is good, since it's only two years away
gr33n3y3z replied: I passed up many of mine I didnt hang out with them in school so why go and do it now
I always hung out with the upper classmen but I do go to Eds when he goes
JulieJ replied: My 5 yr reunion was quite wild. I didn't get home until the next morning because a group of us went out afterwards sharing old times and drinking. It was great. I did not bother with the 10 yr and for the 20th, I was living in England. Some of my friends didn't want to go because they said it was only to see how far you had gotten and not for the fun of it. I guess a bit of that is true. I would go to another one though. You will know what to do when the time comes. Good luck.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: My 10 year is this summer....and I may go if it fits in our schedule. Dh;s was this last year and we decided not to go. $125 per person to go and we didn;t really like anyone form his class
grandma replied: I've gone to our 5th, 10th and helped organize our 35th. Since our school was very small the 35th included classes 66-70 (when the school closed). With the years they get more fun. People aren't trying to impress anyone anymore and all the tiffs are forgotten (memory loss). That last reunion turned into a reunion weekend with breakfast, picnics, bar hopping, etc. It was a blast!
lisar replied: My boss is going to his 40th one. Its on a cruise ship though. Apparently they do this about every 5 years. He said ALOT of people go on it.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Never went to any of mine and I never will. I really had a horrible class and school was equal to torture for me. I stay in touch with my real friends and the rest I never care to see again.
I've gone to all of Stephen's~they are a total blast!!! In many ways I'm way more connected here than my hometown~weird.
grandma replied: Funny you mention that! I've noticed some of the classmates spouses have as much fun as we do. Those are usually the ones that drink and dance with us...not the ones that choose to sit back at table and watch...lol
