Help me settle an arguement - on carseats

moped wrote: I keep telling Tom that they should not budge if htey are installed properly, he says they will move - all of them will move - I don't think so. I am the carseat nazi and mine in my car do NOT budge, needless to say I make sure the ones in his don't either......

So does yours budge an inch????

my2monkeyboys replied: Will's would move a slight bit, but no where near an inch. I would sit in it and pull the seatbelt as hard as I could, so with my big butt that helped tighten it down pretty good.

moped replied:
The inch part was jsut a phrase......LOL wink.gif

Does it move at all

Kentuckychick replied: As long as they move no more that an inch from side to side (meaning about a half inch either way) they should be fine. Some seats in some cars absolutely will not go in any more snugly. I personally don't like them to move at all and can usually get them to fit snug.

Tell me, are you installing rear facing or forward facing?

If rear facing there are ways to get a snugger fit such as using a pool noodle or rolled up towel under the front of the base of the seat.

If forward facing there's not a whole lot you can do but tighten that sucker as tight as it will go and make sure the seatbelt is locked or you're using the locking clip.

PrairieMom replied: When we had ours installed by the fire department they didn't budge at all, I mean very very little. They had a huge guy kneeling in it and another huge guy pulling and tightening the belts. I was really surprised how tight it was when they were done.

boyohboyohboy replied: they are allowed to move slightly, very slightly side to side, but not back and forth.

luvmykids replied: Mine don't move hardly at all. In some cars if you just can't get it tight enough there is a little gadget they sell, I can't think of the name, but it's a ratchet type thing where you thread the seatbelt through it and use this little handle to tighten it. I had to use those in my Excursion and they made the seats super super tight.

mom21kid2dogs replied: An inch is allowable but tightest install available is obviously the best protection. When testing for movement, be sure the only place you are testing the seat is at the belt path.

lovemy2 replied: Nope not an inch - I agree with you 100% thumb.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: Ours move a very little, but not much at all. I am another one who sits my giant butt in the seat to tighten it and that really works. tongue.gif

moped replied:
See mine do not budge at all - not even a teeny weeny bit.......

lovemy2 replied:
Me either - I have a really big butt laugh.gif

Boys r us replied: Mine don't budge either!! Is tom using latch or a seatbelt to install seat? I've found it's much easier to get a tight fit with LATCH.

lisar replied: Well my best friend installs my carseats for me. Mainly cause she is really good at it and they DONT move an inch. Thats why I let her do it.

holley79 replied: I get mine installed here at the SO. If for any reason I have to take the seat out I get them to reinstall it as quickly as possible. I can't get it near as tight as they do.

BAC'sMom replied:
Me too. thumb.gif

Mine don't move an inch.

If they don't fit right there are things you can use to make them fit. Rolled up towel, pool noodle ETC.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I never had a problem getting ours to fit snugly. I also sit in them and pull the seatbelt.

MoonMama replied: Braedin's don't budge at all! I'm the queen of installing carseats, my local fire dept is always impressed. rolling_smile.gif

Calimama replied:
rolling_smile.gif If they think that's impressive they should see your shopping skills.

MoonMama replied:
Hey now I have been VERY good lately. tongue.gif
