Help! What can I feed her? - Need food ideas!!

shelrae00 wrote: All of a sudden Sarynn has decided she does not want baby food anymore. She will eat a bite or 2 then start crying and refuse to take another bite. I didn't do a lot of finger type foods with Marshall till he was older because he had eating issues because of the stroke. He used to choke on everything so I am Paranoid about everything I give Sarynn. She has had the biter biscuts, Wagon Wheels (they scare me to death so she gets them when hubby is with her) and Ritz crackers and that is about it as far as finger foods. I need some ideas of what to give her. She turned 9 months yesterday and has no teeth. Any ideas ladies? what are your little ones eating or feeding themselves these days???

Thanks

Shelly

jdkjd replied: Bailey loves green beans (cooked until soft and in small pieces), mac and cheese, roasted/smashed sweet potatoes, applesauce, banana, cheerios!, and wagon wheels. All of those were non-baby-food. Just reg. food. It sounds like she might be teething.

Good luck! I would really try the green beans. Bailey loved them.

Mommieto2Girls replied: Madison is eating alot of mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. Maddie likes to also eat can green beens, carrots, anything that's soft, just make sure you cook pasta longer to make softer. biggrin.gif

amynicole21 replied: Sophia's been fussing a lot during eating, too. So far, I've been giving in and just giving her cheerios (which is probably why she is fussing - she's waiting for the good stuff tongue.gif ) So, I have no suggestions. I am looking forward to seeing other people's responses!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: wink.gif Claudia is doing the same thing lately! The only thing she will eat is applesauce and baby cereal! As for finger foods she will eat cooked mixed vegetables, cheerios, teething cookies, and crackers. I too was getting a little worried about her not eating more solids! wink.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I use to babysit a little boy and my sister was eating Raumen noodles and she let him try some,,,man was that his favorite from then on, he even liked the juice in a sippy cup...lol...I know its not very nutrisious, but as a snack its good.

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley has had:

Cooked carrots -- cooked very soft and cut into small pieces
Green beans -- cooked very soft and cut into small pieces
Cheerios
Wagon Wheels
Biter Biscuits
Tiny cubes of cheese
Spaghetti -- cut very small
scrambled egg yolk (at first I mixed it with applesauce, but now she likes to pick it up with her fingers)
French toast -- made with whole wheat bread and egg yolk only, with some gerber fruit spread on top
Pancakes -- made like Edie described (Pancake mix, egg yolk, some oatmeal added in) then spread with gerber fruit on top.
Mac 'n Cheese
Jello
Bananas (smashed them at first, now she likes them in little chunks)
watermellon
Mashed potatoes (one of her favorites)
Baked potaotes (just flake off little pieces)
Rice

I think that is all that Ashley has had so far. Just remember, no peanuts, honey or egg whites.

Mommieto2Girls replied: Maddie just had captain crunch cereal for the first time and she loved it. She has also had cottage cheese, which she liked and fruit yogurt.

msjennbug replied: RUN to the library and check out "super baby food" awesome book on what to feed our little ones smile.gif

supermom replied: just about anything we'd eat the babes got - we did frozen veggies cooked soft because of too much salt in the canned ones (unless you got no-salt canned).....ground beef cooked and crumbled, cooked rice and pasta, really they got it all - well, we did watch the grilled meats if they were too tough, but other than that they got it all pretty much.....although I still didn't do dairy until mine were a year old.

catou_98 replied: Breads, Cereals and Grains
Cooked whole wheat pasta (small shells or twists)
Dry, unsweetened cereal without nuts
Whole grain toast, waffle, or French toast strips (good with veggie or fruit purees)
Crisp crackers and Graham crackers
Soft cooked brown rice, pressed into a small ball
Bagels (stale ones are great for teething)
Tender, homemade, whole grain mini-muffins

Soft, ripe or cooked fruit wedges: kiwi, pear, apple, banana, peach, nectarine, mango, papaya (be sure to peel)
Membrane-peeled oranges or tangerines for older babies

Vegetable strips (1' x 3") cooked until soft: sweet potato, broccoli, potato, parsnip, zucchini, asparagus tips, carrot

booey2 replied: All of the above posts are great. We went through a stage where Matthew only wanted to eat the petit danons and I let him. He would drink his formula and eat them. It didn't last long, he got hungry and decided food was better.

ediep replied: Jason eats cheerios, rice crispies, biter biscuits, zweiback taost, peas, mac & cheese, pasta, carrots, bread, muffin, baked potato, cheese

His doc approved any table food expect raw fruit or veggies, peanut butter, nuts, hot dogs, or any other choking/allergic foods

Good Luck!

MamaMartie replied: It is so hard when they start wanting table food, and with my first baby I was totally paraniod. But lets face it, the jarred stuff tastes bland at best. It is understandable that babies get tired of it.

I bought a mini food prcessor (I think it is called the mini-chopper, and holds maybe a cup of food) for about $9. It was the perfect size to chop up our table food. First I made it the same consistance of jarred food, the I slowly at each meal chopped it less so he got used to eating shunkier food. It worked out so well that I ened up making my own baby food for #2 & #3 and I will for Hannah (#4).

As for food that are easy to eat (unchopped) & less likely to make your baby choke:

crackers (especially grahm)
cheerios
cheese puffs
meat sticks (gross, but very mushy and babies love them. Personally I couldn't stand the smell)
Small pasta cooked til soft (or you can use spagetti-os in a pinch)
veggies made in a pressure cooker come out so nice and tender
jello (fun play food)
scrambled eggs (if it is ok with your ped)
french fries that aren't too crispy

Humm I can't think of more, but I am sure there is lots out there. Good luck and happy eating to your baby!

MommyToAshley replied: Add fresh peaches to Ashley's list. She didn't care too much for Gerber peaches, but she loves little chunks of fresh peaches that she can pick up herself.

It was funny, I gave her some chunks of fresh peaches with her cereal this morning. She kept saying nananana.... I think she thought it was bananas. I said, "it's peaches!" I think she was still expecting it to taste like bananas because she made the funniest sour- wrinkled nose face. LOL. But, then she loved them.

paradisemommy replied: Taven is slowly leaning toward the not wanting anymore jarred babyfood also but occasionally will take em. He eats pretty much anything that we eat. If he sees it going into our mouth, it better be going into his or he gets mad!!! lol. rolling_smile.gif

Lately, we've been into graham crackers - they make them into little sticks (i think they call em) but they are great because they dissolve in your mouth - he really loves those. he loves oatmeal, pancakes, bananas, oranges, nectarines, gosh i think it would be easier to tell you what he doesn't like emlaugh.gif . For lunch i'll take a piece of bread and break it into little pieces with cheese and lunch meat or any type of meat that i have (leftover chicken is a good one).

Dinner is rice and meat (whatever we are eating but what i usually do is make sure the meat is either cut up really good or i'll make it into bite size pieces with my teeth and then give it to him.

sorry - i'm not sure if i'm much help - i don't have a finicky eater at all smile.gif (only when it comes to his jarred bb food now)
