Help - I dont know what to do...
huggybugboy wrote: Miles's fever is still way high. Ive been alternating tylenol and motrin all day and its still over 102 F. He has been moaning and groaning all day and is totally out of it. I just dont know what to do. I feel awful, my throat is on fire and my fever is over 100 too. Of course, Dh gave us this and then left town so I'm all alone. Is there anything I can do for him?
luvmykids replied: Did they direct you at urgent care, like if his temp didn't go down or anything? I would try to call them and tell them whats going on, since he was just there they'd probably give you some advice over the phone.
Sorry you're sick, it's miserable enough when it's just you OR the kids, but both at the same time is awful!
1lilpeanut2love replied: Poor Boy!! I would call your doctor or if not u might want to go to the ER. I hope things get better soon. U too!! That darn hubby, He needs to get home to take care of you two. I'm not much help. Get well soon!!!
luvmykids replied: I don't remember the cutoff temp, but at a certain temp AFTER meds they wanted to see Colt once, I think Miles is in that range. I'd definitely call or go in.
My3LilMonkeys replied: You would probably want to verify it with your Dr. but when Brooke had a high fever we were told cool compresses on her forehead & chest might help. Even if it doesn't it would at least make him a little more comfortable.
mommymonster replied: I would definately call a nurse or on call doctor, I am sure they will have a great suggestion. I really hope you both feel better, it is so tuff on us when we are sick! ~~~~~~~~~~feel better vibes~~~~~~~~~~~~~
huggybugboy replied: I tried the cold compresses and he freaked out. If hes anything like me with a fever, his skin probably hurts. I hate that. The doctor told me that when their fever is really high, like 104, the medication will only bring it down a couple of degrees. Its just so hard because I know how uncomfortable he is. He wont crawl at all and will hardly even sit up for any length of time. He just lays there, on me (which is, I have to admit nice ) but still, I'm worried. I'm hoping the antibiotics will kick in and he'll feel better tomorrow.
redchief replied: I understand you went to the urgent care center earlier today. I think a call to their answering service might be in order.
CAMSMOM1 replied:
Usually after 24 hours of being on an antibotic, he should start feeling better. He might still have a fever tomorrow, but hopefully he won't be so lathragic.
Is he drinking fluids? Try to offer him some water as much as you can. Even a sip here and there really helps.
And have you given him a luke-warm bath? Make sure it's not cold or hot. And let him soak in that for 20-30 min. That is what my ped. told me the last time Cam was running a high fever. (the cold compresses never worked for me either, but the bath did).
And just continue to let him rest on you. That will comfort him and help him to sleep. The more sleep and rest he gets, the better his body will be able to fight this off.
I hope you both start feeling better soon.
huggybugboy replied: aaaah!!! ok I called the pediatrician but the only one on call is the stupid one. Shes going to call back. I called her earlier when his fever was well on to 105 and she said its probable just a virus! I'm sorry, no. So I took him in. And what do they tell me?? no its not a virus. So now I have to hear her tell me that its nothing again.
luvmykids replied: I'm sorry, they can be so uncompassionate! If it makes you feel any better, my doc says every time (like he's tired of telling me!) "The fever is not the problem, just a symptom. All we can do is treat the root issue." Which you're doing ... I know you just want some relief for him.
CAMSMOM1 replied: Also, what is he wearing??? Try not to bundle him in any blankets, or warm/heavy clothing. A light weight long sleeve shirt, will be fine. And if he's laying on you, your body height will warm him up.
1lilpeanut2love replied: I am so SORRY. I hope you can get to the bottom of all of this SOON!!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Try getting in a cool bath with him and if his fever continues to go up take him back to the ER.
huggybugboy replied: well the pediatrician said "hmmm. maybe the antibiotics just need some time to kick in." erg...gotta love doctors. She said if he gets any worse to take him in to the er.
mckayleesmom replied: Exactly, but more luke warm then cool....you don't want to put him into shock....That is what always works for my kiddos.
