He did it! - He PEED!!!

~Roo'sMama~ wrote: Today I decided that we were going to give potty training another go. Andrew has been decidedly against sitting on the potty for the last few months so I've been kind of just letting him be, but today I decided it's about time to try again even if he didn't want to. tongue.gif So we sat in the bathroom for a looong time with him refusing to even sit on either the toilet or his potty chair. Finally he agreed to try going pee pee standing up - and he did try but nothing would come out. rolleyes.gif But since he'd tried, we put on his big boy underwear and left the bathroom, and about 2 seconds later he peed in them. rolleyes.gif Not a lot, so I got him to sit on the toilet again but he still wouldn't go. Then I made him a potty chart and we put a sticker on it because he'd sat on the potty, and I made lunch. I was sitting at the table, eating my sandwich and talking to my mom on the phone when suddenly he ran in the bathroom and shut the door. (he'd been running around playing and NOT eating his sandwich. rolleyes.gif ) I went to see what he was doing, and there he was, sitting on the toilet, going pee!! banana.gif greenapple.gif banana.gif I was so amazed, I almost cried. I told him how proud I was of him, and he got to talk to Grandma on the phone and tell her that he went potty. happy.gif He got to call Daddy at work and tell him too, and he got a sucker. thumb.gif

I'm so happy... I know it probably won't last but now I know that he can do it, and so I'm not so discouraged about it. tongue.gif

I've heard the saying "it's like a light switch went on inside their head" when it comes to potty training and it's so true, IMO. I've tried for so long with Megan because she acted like she wanted to PT but she just wasn't as serious with it as she should be. Then all of a sudden one day the light switch went on (just recently) and we are PT'ing. She's only had a few accidents and it's been great.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
maybe that's what happend with Roo, too. He went again on his own while I was getting the tub ready for his bath. thumb.gif I'm waiting to see if he'll go poopy on the toilet today or wait until we put his diaper back on tonight. tongue.gif He has gone poopy on the toilet a coupel times in the past, but it was really hard for him and took forever each time - maybe because he normally poops standing up. rolleyes.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: He went potty a total of 5 times today before Dh got home at 5:15 and we had to put a diaper on him so we could leave. thumb.gif Tomorrow I'm going to try to get him to wear his underwear instead of running around naked all day. tongue.gif

YEAH!!!! WTG Andrew. thumb.gif

If you want something for the car seat so you don't have to put him in a diaper, One Step Ahead has the "piddle pad" to put in the car seat in case they pee in it. Oddly enough we've not had any accidents IN the car and we just got back from a 4 hour trip ride over the weekend.

Ooh that's a good idea. I'll look into that. happy.gif

Today hasn't gone quite as well. For starters he spent the whole first half of the day in a diaper because I got up exhausted and dozed on the couch until 9:30 while Andrew watched tv. blush.gif Then we had to rush out the door to walk to Allie's WIC appointment, then we walked to the thrift store, library, and subway for lunch. I think he would still have done ok after that, except I'm trying to get him to wear his underwear and he just doesn't make it to the toilet when he's wearing them. When he hasn't got anything on, he runs to the bathroom on his own whenever he has to go. When he's wearing his underwear, even with me asking him every so often if he has to go potty, he just keeps peeing in them. He only pees a little bit, like he catches himself going, so that's good. But then he can't go on the potty after that for some reason, even though he tries. dunno.gif

I'm trying to decide if I should just let him go naked for the next few days so he gets in the habit of going potty, and then start making him wear underwear, or if I should just keep letting him pee in them. I'm afraid he's going to get discouraged that way though.
