Have you gone on a Disney cruise?

coasterqueen wrote: We are thinking about taking a Disney cruise sometime in 2009 -- our family, Ryan's sister and family, his parents, and hopefully my parents and sister. Right now the difficult part is all of us picking a date to agree on. My BIL is on one of those all-year round school schedules, so obviously his schedule is the worst to work with.

Dh and I were thinking Thanksgiving or right after Christmas would be the best time for all of us to be off school/work and go. Has anyone gone during these times? Can you offer me any tips, advice, etc? That would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

amynicole21 replied: I haven't gone on a Disney cruise yet, but I'd love to. They're pretty pricey though.

We have cruised over Thanksgiving and it was GREAT! Weather was perfect and we loved it.

Mommy2BAK replied: my family went on the disney cruise when i was 15. It was AWESOME!

MommyToAshley replied: I haven't but it sounds like so much fun! Would you go to Disney as well? Ashley STILL talks about our Disney vacation... it was well worth the money spent.

lovemy2 replied: I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go on a Disney cruise - when we priced it out for our family (4 of us) it was $7000 ohmy.gif

Anyway - we went to Disney first week of Nov. this year - weather was wonderful - not crowded, etc. had a ball - will you do a land and sea package or just the cruise? Watch the travel channel - they have a great special on right now about the building of the Disney cruise boats....really neat....

We booked through AAA - they were a great help.............and the price was better than dealing with Disney directly...

coasterqueen replied:
Was it crowded being that it was over Thanksgiving?

Also do you think the weather would be good for an after Christmas cruise?

coasterqueen replied:
No, we would not go to Disney, just the cruise. Our reasoning is Megan will only be 4 (she is still very immature for her age) and we want to go do something like that when she's older and can enjoy it more. The cruise would be something I think she'd like better at this age.

It is very expensive, though and that is why we are waiting until 2009, so we can save for it. tongue.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Yes, our initial figures are $5,000 for the 4 of us, but I can see it being more expensive than that. Everyone IRL I've talked to tell us it's completely worth the money and one couple we know has kids the same age as ours and they loved it. I know Disney, itself, would probably be cheaper, but just not at the age of my girls (well, Megan).

luvmykids replied: I haven't done it but have a friend who does it every few years....she really loves the people on the ship and Disney's private island. They've taken their daughter who is seven now two or three times and all of them have had a blast every single time.

I highly recommend this site, it started out as a local travel agency here but they have had so much success as an internet agency with their discounts that it's all they do now Pavlus Travel

amynicole21 replied:
Well, the ship was full - but they usually are. wink.gif I think the weather would still be great over Christmas.

lovemy2 replied: Oh I don't blame you on going on the cruise now and doing the land Disney later - I personally think doing both would be ALOT - I think we may have priced the land/cruise ones - and I 100% agree that it is soooo worth the money......we will go back to Disney when Dylan is older - like 5 or 6 - I wanted to take Olivia at 5 (which she is now) so it would still be "magical" for her - which IMO it is at any age - but I do think we will be able to do much more when we go back....

I would think Thanksgiving time would be ok because I think (and am not 100% sure) that hurricane season is over by then right? I guess it would depend on where the cruise goes - maybe check out weather at that time of the year in the ports you plan to go to - google it - that is what we did to find out the average temp, etc. for the time of year we went.....right after Christmas I would do the same thing to find out what the weather is like.....

I am sooo jealous - let us know what you plan -

luvmykids replied:
Thats part of why we've waited.....the twins are at the perfect age but Macie is still a little young.

holley79 replied: We are looking at taking on in 2010 when Annika is 5. We figure she will be a great age. Sometimes if you can book very early and get the insurance you can get the cruise for half price. We are taking another cruise in May. This is the second one we will take.

Calimama replied: I want to take Miabella when she's old enough!! thumb.gif

jacobsmama replied: My sister just went on a Disney Cruise Last October and she loved it!! She is a total disney freak. wink.gif

moped replied: I haven't but when i was a travel agent I sold quite a few of them - they are great for kids of course and if you like to eat then it is great tongue.gif

I think that would be a great time to go
