Have a U/S question...

Ok,i will be having my 1st U/S on July 1st..Are they usually able to do a regular one (on your stomach) or is it still to early and they do a transvaginal one??I thought about letting the kids go and DH will probably go,but if they will be doing the latter of the 2 I don't want them going..
Don't want to have to explain to a 5 and 9 yr old what they are doing etc or want them in there if you kwim...
My3LilMonkeys replied: My first U/S for all 3 babies was around 8-12 weeks. At all 3 of them they did both normal and vaginal. Maybe you can call your Drs office and check?
I would suggest waiting to bring the kids to the later ultrasound - it's so much easier to see everything and I think they'd like it better.
maestra replied: At my 8 week visit, I usually had transvaginal ultrasounds (this time I saw the ob at 6 weeks and it was the same). But yesterday I went at 10 weeks and we had a regular us. I just depends on your size and how far you are.
kimberley replied: of 6 pgs, i had 4 TV u/s because they could not find the hb right away. i'd bring the family to the next one.
MoonMama replied: With Braedin I didn't have my first U/S until 14 weeks and they were able to do it with the wand on my belly. With this one due to the recent scare, they tired to do it first with the wand on my belly and it didn't work, so they did end up doing it TV.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: I'm so happy you are pregnant !!!!!!!!!!!
At 10 wks it *should* be a tummy ultrasound,, but there's always a chance they'll need to do a vaginal ,too -- if they arent able to see what they need to see. 10 wks is kind of an 'iffy' stage. You could still bring the family, though. I mean,, they'll have that gown over your vaginal area--- the kids will probably be clueless as to what's going on -- they'll probably be too busy staring at the screen.
Good luck and keep us posted !
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I would think they'd do a regular one at 10 weeks. My 8 week u/s with Andrew they did both, but for my 8 week with Allie they only did the regular one and they could see her just fine.
A&A'smommy replied: how far along will you be? I had my first u/s with Autumn at 10weeks and they had to do a vaginal because of the way my uterus is shaped so I would go with the mind set that you will likely have to have a vaginal if its earlier than about 12weeks which they may not but it is VERY likely that you will!!
Swood75 replied: I will be 10 weeks and 2 days (according to the due date they gave me) when I go back..I guess I will just call them in a bit..Thanks everyone...
ZandersMama replied: I have never had a vaginal ultrasound and I had very early ultrasounds with both, around 6 weeks.....weird
Swood75 replied: I called the Dr's office and they said it would be an abdominal one with me being that far along unless they can't see it good enough which in that case would be that TV one and DH said if that is what they end up doing he will just take the kids out of the room..
Crystalina replied: I call it the Vagi-cam and I'm pretty sure it is used for your first u/s. My DH and the kids were in there with me. I just had the kids stand up by my head. I had already explained the vagi-cam to them before the Dr. came in. He had already had the little condom on it and the gel so I knew it was coming. They weren't bothered by it but then again my kids have seen goats, cows and other critters come into the world so they aren't shocked at all.
A&A'smommy replied: That is what we did, they tried to do mine belly BUT my uterus is a bit tilted so they had to do it TV dh just took Alyssa out of the room and they watched the dvd
I wish I could tell ya'll what I call the TV wand
Swood75 replied: LOL Crystal..You are one BRAVE woman to let your kiddos be in there with you for that..I don't want to have to explain anything to mine as they think the baby will be coming out of my "stomach" and that is the way I want to keep it til they are MUCH older..LOL...Besides the Dr's office said it would be an abdominal one when I go unless they can't see everything they need to good enough..I have to get a DVD-R to get it recorded on..Oh,and I will go back at 20 weeks for my 2nd one...
