Hardwood Floors - ???
mckayleesmom wrote: I honestly will never ever live in another house with hardwood floors.....they are a PITA to keep up with....Even looking at houses online for when we move...I don't care how nice the house is....if I see hardwood...I turn the page...
ilovemybaby replied: We've never had hardwood floors but I'm wondering what is so bad about them? I would use the vacuum cleaner on them and then mop them when they are dirty. Most vacuum cleaners these days do not scratch floors because they have the wheels and I use our vacuum cleaner on our linoleum floors.
My3LilMonkeys replied: We don't have any so I can't comment on taking care of them, but I love the look of them! MIL has one in her kitchen and it's just beautiful.
Theirs always looks nice - but FIL is EXTREMELY anal about cleaning so he probably cleans it 3x a day.
MamaJAM replied: I love them for ease of cleaning. My bedroom growing up had this horrible, shag, yellow/orange/brown wall-to-wall carpeting (it was the 70s). I finally convinced my parents when I was 14 to let me redecorate -- that's when I discovered there were hardwood floors under there -- and they were in good shape. So I just bought 2 little throw rugs and kept the floors bare -- it was so much nicer to clean.
The house we live in now _supposedly_ has hardwood floors almost everywhere....but they have been covered by cheap wall-to-wall carpeting -- when we removed the one carpet the floor was in such nasty shape we had to cover it again. If we every have the money - I want to fix up the floors downstairs.
ilovemybaby replied: I don't think we have hardwood floors under our carpet I think they are concrete.
holley79 replied: I love em because they are so much easier to keep the dog hair under control. I hate carpet to be honest. We are getting new floors next month and I am so excited. We aren't getting hardwood though we are getting tile.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I love hardwoods. Our first house had hardwoods thru out. We just put laminate in our study, but it's the same idea. We plan on putting it in a lot of rooms and getting rid of carpet completely and just having tile and laminate flooring. We have allergies and carpet is so bad for the allergies. IMO wood is a lot less stress than carpet, but it's probably b/c our carpet is almost WHITE! It drives me nuts.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: My dad has hardwood in his living room and down the hall way. There is a rug in the middle of the living room floor and when you move it to for whatever reason you can tell the differance from where there is no rug because of the scrathes and wear and tear. He has only lived there for 9 years.
Hardwood floors are beautiful...but if you dont make sure everyone is careful with what they do to the them then they are a real PITA to take care of!!
EvesMom replied: Hardwood floors are great if you have pets. They are easy to clean too. Vac. them and occasionally mop them. I think they look super nice too.
coasterqueen replied: I have mixed emotions. I hate carpet because of staining and cleaning BUT I would much rather walk on carpet than hardwood. I absolutely despise hardwood floors for myself but love them in other people's homes.
We have allergies and the allergist says carpet is bad for that reason but roomba and the vacume keep up with the carpet well. we also have them cleaned regularly and have a whole-house allergy cleaner and since then it's not been a problem.
I'd much rather vacume any day of the week over sweeping and mopping. Although if I got SCUBA (roomba's sister) I might be able to be persuaded.
Heather77 replied: We don't have them, but have always wanted them... and oneday we are plannign on tearing out our carpet to put hardwood in. They seem so much easier to care for than carpet! Hardwood floors are nice looking too .
kit_kats_mom replied: I love the look. Hate the hardness of them in regards to kids (i just keep seeing one of them taking a header into the floor and losing a tooth), but carpet....EWWW It really is gross. It's like using a towel over and over and over again without ever washing it. So nasty. Even steam cleaning never gets all that grunge out.
mommymonster replied: I love my hard wood floors ! I can't stand the noise of a vaccume cleaner, I get migraines easily , so I do not mind sweeping every morning.
luvmykids replied: I've had both and take hardwood hands down any day over carpet.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I love the look of hardwoods and have never found them difficult to maintain. They do collect dust bunnies, but I'm willing to deal with it! And yes, carpet is so much easier to just vacuum, but again, I like the look better than my current carpeted house. Our last house had all hardwood..I miss them!
kimberley replied: love em, especially with kids!
5littleladies replied: I love hardwood, even though it truly is a pain to take care of. Mine are super scratched and need refinishing desperately. Oh well. I have laminate in my dining room and I really love that! It is super easy to maintain and it looks great!
C&K*s Mommie replied: love them! (I would love to one day have a house with them too)
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I love hardwood floors. We have hardwood upstairs and down - the only carpet we have is an area rug in the living room. I admit sometimes I do wish I had carpet so i could just run the vacuum over the floor instead of going around with the dustmop (a regular broom takes too long our floors are big) and then mopping everywhere. My vacuum is supposed to be fine for hard floors too but it doesn't do that great. But really, if I didn't have a dog shedding everywhere I would have no complaints at all - and I'm sure that having carpet wouldn't make that situation any better.
jcc64 replied: We have hardwoods in every room of the house except the kitchen and bath (tile in there). Dh and ds both have asthma- carpet is really not healthy for people with allergies. Besides, it's alot easier to get mud and dirty snow off of a hardwood floor than a carpet. Ditto for grape juice, pizza, and the occasionally doggie "deposit".
Kaitlin'smom replied: I have never had hardwood but want to ditch carpet I HATE it. probably our next hom eI iwll ditch carpet if it has some but fo rnow I will leave the carpet, I do need to replace some of it before we sell.
na81 replied: We have hardwood floors all throughout our house except one bedroom is carpet and our kitchen and dining room are tile. I have mixed feelings about it. I love the fact that they look nice and if something gets spilled its easy cleanup. On the other hand, they are hard to keep up with- 2 adults, 1 toddler, a dog and a cat!!!! It seems like I am always vaccuming and mopping!!! Sometimes I wish I had carpet so I didn't have to vaccum 5 times a day, but once my 16 month old spills something, I'm thankful for hardwood.
My2Beauties replied: I voted that I love them because when we move I probably want to try a house with hardwood floors, I think they are beautiful and better for Brian and Hanna's allergies, but I think I would rather vacuum than to sweep and mop everyday. However, carpets get stained so easy and that is no fun! A husband that works on the railroad all day makes for messy icky boots, and he has no problem not taking them off before he walks into the house
luvmykids replied: I used my vacuum on my hardwood floors all the time, the newer ones have great protective finishes on them and the vacuum doesn't hurt a bit.
Brias3 replied: I'm up in the air. We've had both. The upkeep on hardwood is ridiculous, I don't like the harshness of it with the kids being young, but I love the look of it. Our house now was nearly full hardwood when we moved in. Since, I have carpeted most of the upstairs and we have big area rugs everywhere except the kitchen (and the front hall, which is stone) so that cuts down on the drama of the hardwood a little.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I guess they are a "to each his own" kinda thing. Personally, I would get rid of the one and only carpet I own in a heartbeat. Everything else in our house is ceramic & hardwood. If you spill on carpet it's there til you die. If you spill on ceramic/hardwood you Swiffer & it's gone. My husband does complain that they are cold. I tell him that's why slippers were invented.
widgetX12 replied: LOVE them!!! I just sweep them every couple of days. I mop them about once or twice a year with murphys oil soap. I love the way that cleaner smells.
