Had a scare last night... - chocking

mummy2girls wrote: My nephew(3 yrs) was over last night and he was eating chips. Well he started to cry and walk around the corner. My brother started to freak because he was chocking on the chip ohmy.gif . I had to ignore my brother and jump in to help my nephew. Because he was still breathing and coughing i new his air way wasnt blocked so i told him to try to get it up. He tried and tried then all of a sudden he got it logged in his throat and couldnt breathe. At this time my brother was losing it and jenna was screaming!!!! So i grabbed my nephew and ran into my room so my brother couldnt watch and get more upset. I did the himleck(sp?) and up it came after a few thrusts. Then i lost it!!! OMG!!! If this was jenna i probably would of lost it. My brother now wont let him have chips..

amynicole21 replied: OMG!!!! ohmy.gif I think I would have lost it, too!! I'm so glad you knew what to do!

mummy2girls replied:
I took a cpr and first aid course in childcare after i had jenna so i would be prepared for things like this.

aspenblue1 replied: OMG!!!!! That is so scary. I am glad everything is ok.

DansMom replied:
I'm glad you told this story---I need to take one of those courses again. It's been a long time, and I'm not sure I remember everything.

I think you're a hero! It's a good thing you were there.

Schnoogly replied: I think your brother needs to take a course! What if you weren't there???? Don't just stand there freaking out!

mummy2girls replied: My brother knows first aid and cpr so i guess he just freaked and lost it.

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh how scary! ohmy.gif I hope if I am in that suitation I would do what needs to be done then freek out after, like you did. I would probably be ok if it was not my daughter, but as the other night I made DH call 911 for her, but I think if I was alone I would have done it my self.

I need to take a refresher myself...

Maddie&EthansMom replied: That is so scary!! It has happened to Maddie a few times....luckily I have been there. It just happened on Sunday. She was eating some meat and choked. DH was pounding on her back and I kept screaming "Stick your finger down her throat and dig it out!!!" I always hook my finger and get out whatever is choking her. I know this isn't the greatest method, but it works and I get so scared watching her turn red....then blue. It is such a scary thing to happen. Thumbs up to you for knowing what to do. thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: Great Job i think your a hero too!!!!!

MommyToAshley replied: That is so awesome, you are a hero!!!

ANd, thanks for the reminder. DH and I have been talking about taking a refresher course. It is time to quit talking about it and actually do it. I will call our hospital tomorrow and see what they offer. I guess that is who I should call... any other idea who I should call to schedule a class?

Heather replied: WOW !!! You saved his life!! I don't what I would have done if that were Ali. I am trained to respond to emergencies... I see one at least once a night at work. BUT, if it were my own child I really think I would freak out!!

Great job!!

Dee Dee, I believe you can contact The Red cross? I am sure they have info on their site.

mummy2girls replied:
i had mine done through my community collage. Im in canada so im not much help where you are. smile.gif

aspenblue1 replied: you can call the red cross or if you have a YMCA around they are always doing classes. Also if you have taken it before you can just go and test to get recertified.

Heather replied: http://www.redcross.org/where/where.html

Here is a link to find out more information about your local red cross course offerings...

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Wow! Scary!

Most Fire stations can direct you to the proper place if they don't offer it themselves....

Which reminds me, the last time i took a course was maybe 2 years ago.... I think I could use a refresher too.
