HELP~Need help With Wacky/Silly snacks! - for preschool

Crystalina wrote: Izabella's preschool class is having a 'wacky day' later this month and we have to think of a wacky or silly snack. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I'm lost on this one. I'm thinking maybe dirt and worms... is that wacky or just gross? bigthink.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: wacky! I say go for it. thumb.gif thumb.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied: What about having worms? emlaugh.gif Ok seriously, I've done this before and kids love it!

You get chocolate instant pudding, oreo cookies and mash them up in the pudding. Then you put gummy worms in it...and it looks like the worms are in mud. laugh.gif It's a yummy treat that all the kids will like, and it looks cool. You can put them in individual cups for the kids.

C&K*s Mommie replied: That is what I was thinking of too, and use either a clean clay pot (stick it in the oven to bake-- something about that sterilizes it huh.gif ) or use a plastic kids beach bucket to put the "dirt" & "worms" in. You can use sunflowers too since they are edible, as decoration. Although I would not have the kids actuallly eat the sunflowers.

What about using a clean goldfish bowl, with blue jello and candy fish inside, to make it look like real fish in a fish bowl. KWIM.

ediep replied: very cute ideas!! I like both the jello fish and the the pudding worms!

MamaJAM replied: Cupcake ice cream cones.....fill ice cream cones (the 'regular' kind...not waffle or sugar cones) about 1/2-2/3 full of cake batter -- cook using cupcake directions...put icing and sprinkles on top -- they look like ice cream, but won't melt.

mom21kid2dogs replied: When we do "Dirt" we just make regular brownies and pudding. Then crumble the brownies & mix in some chocolate pudding into whatever container you are planning on serving it in. Garnish with worms and crumbled oreos on top & serve. That way you won't have to worry about an ovensafe material.

Go to the Family Fun web site or get their back issues at the library. They have tons of food features every issue. I'll try and look up some later on in the week since you have some time.

Crystalina replied:
I did this last summer for Evans birthday and the kids had a blast decorating them but they were all top heavy. Are yours top heavy when you make them? unsure.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: You could take same concept with the cupcake icecream cones, and use dum-dums, sweettarts, and anything other 'tall' candy in lieu of the cupcakes on that top, too.

MamaJAM replied:
Yes - they do topple...but the kids are always eating them so fast it doesn't matter much.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Here's a couple:

Chocolate spiders:

Get pretzels, cheerios, and those won ton noodles. You can add nuts, or chopped dried fruit too...

Put all that in a big bowl, add melted chocolate, coat pretty much everything.

Take a scoop of the mix, put on parchment paper on a tray - you can put some candied googly eyes for effect - when the chocolate dries, you will have what looks like spiders.

From Hasbro.com:

COTTON CANDY loves things sweet, so for this special day she has made this wonderful treat that will be sure to make you and your friends smile. Grab some friends and be on your way to making one of the greatest treats to come our way.

(Makes 8 horns)
Ingredients:

1 (18.9-oz.) pkg. Pillsbury® Moist Supreme® Funfetti® Cake Mix
1/3 cup oil
2 eggs
1/2 (15.6-oz.) can Pillsbury® Creamy Supreme® Funfetti® Pink Vanilla Frosting
8 pointed ice cream cones
1 cup candy-coated chocolate pieces
Directions:

Heat oven to 375°F.
In large bowl, combine cake mix, oil and eggs; stir with spoon until thoroughly moistened. Shape dough into 36 (1inch) balls; place 2 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheets. With bottom of glass dipped in flour, flatten each to 1/4inch thickness.
Bake at 375°F. for 6 to 8 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. Cool 15 minutes or until completely cooled.
Spoon about 1 cup frosting into quart sized re-sealable plastic bag; seal bag. Cut off 1 bottom corner of bag to form small hole.
Holding 1 ice cream cone in hand, spoon about 2 tablespoons of candies into cone. Squeeze bag of frosting to pipe frosting around top edge of cone. Press rounded side of 1 cookie onto frosting. Place cookie, cone side up, on sheet of waxed paper. Repeat with 7 remaining cones and 7 cookies. Refrigerate 30 minutes or until frosting is set. Reserve remaining cookies for snacking.
Starting at pointed end of each cone, pipe spiral of frosting around each cone. Immediately sprinkle frosting with candy bits from frosting. If desired, add additional edible glitter or candy sprinkles.
HIGH ALTITUDE (ABOVE 3500 FEET): Add ½ cup flour to dry cake mix. Bake as directed on package.

Just thought of another one my mom used to freak me out with...I've done it for my kids too.

Cut a hot dog wiener (not cooked) from the two tips, almost down to the middle. Don't slice all the way through. Turn over, and repeat - so you have a wiener that is whole in the middle - but with 4 "limbs" on each end.

Put on baking sheet (or nuke em in the microwave) - watch - the "legs" curl up some... and you end up with spiders, or octopus type things.

We used to "rip off the legs" and eat the "bloody stumps" with "blood" (ketchup)

Course, we used to pretty much only eat that around Halloween. blush.gif

jem0622 replied: Very good ideas gals! I have done the dirt and worms. I like the jell-o with swedish fish idea. Too cool! I have done the cupcakes and they were all the rage. The moms asked me how I made them. I just used a tall Tupperware container to keep them from toppling and the kids didn't care anyway. LOL.

Purple cows are fun too. You just need vanilla ice cream and grape soda.
