HELP ALL MOM'S THAT HAD KIDS W/ EAR INFECTIONS - SORRY I HAVE BEEN MIA MISS U ALL~(LONG)

~~*Missi*~~ wrote: Ok Sabrina is really sick. On Sunday she was rushed to Children's Hospital with a fever of 105.5 with Motrin. They gave her IV antibotics and fluids. They took blood to test for Gram Negative Rods in her blood, particulary for aeromonas hydrophila (hydrophilic) pneumonia. My father had a heart attack and we all share our house and well he was exposed to it in ICU (intensive care unit) and CCU (cardiac care unit). He was released OK and by the Friday after his Monday release. He came down all of a sudden Friday with uncontrollable shakes and high fever. So he was rushed back where they found aeromonas hydrophila (hydrophilic) pneumonia (which is indicated at first by gram negative rods). So Sabrina is being tested for it but as a precaution they gave her Cefapine(?) IV antibotics.
On top of all this they did find RSV and a left inner ear infection. This is the FIRST time she has ever been on antibotics and had a ear infection. She was on Amoxicillin 10ml twice a day.

Today we had to take her back to the doctors because her fever spiked again and the cough is to the point where she is gasping for air. The doctor gave her a breathing treatment for us to do and re-examed her ears. Now she has a DOUBLE ear infection and the left isn't showing ANY improvement. ARGHH now she is on Cefzil250mg 3/4tsp twice a day....

Sabrina is ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE!! OMG I am talking horrible miserable. If she isn't on a Motrin or Tylenol HIGH she cries at everything and anything. I mean I could look at her wrong and she cries. She cries so much she gets so worked up she can't breath and/or throws up. We have her bed at a incline. Cool Mist Humdifier. She has slept with us most the time because she wakes up so much.

Does anyone anyone have any home remedies or ideas on how to make the princess happy again????? Anything or any ideas?
Eating any ideas what I can't offer her, she wont do MILK makes her gag, no BOTTLEs it must hurt, etc......

Our Lil' Family replied: I'm so sorry she is so sick! The only thing I can suggesst is do whatever makes her most comfortable. Yogurt will help with the diarreah.
Good luck, I know how hard it is to have a sick baby!

mommymonster replied: My little girl was up all night last night! she had a low fever but the pain was makeing her cry all night, this morning her eyes were so swollen from crying all night, she could barely open them!
I think the doctors you went to did all the right things, both my children at different points have had a the same antibiotics they gave your daughter.

As for pain, I use over the counter eardrops, you can use the infant ones for her, and as far as food, I do not know how old your baby was, but I would let her eat/drink anything at this point just to keep her nourished, anything in her little belly is best, it will help with the antibiotics she on. ( helps the body absorb the med.)

I have been letting my daughter have friut shakes that I make out of fruit and vanilla icecream, she doesn't have fever right now, so the dairy does not upset the tummy, maybe you can give her Pedipops, or a non red colored fruit juice.

Someone once told me that with fever the 'red' in drinks upsets a feverish tummy. I do not know how true that is, But I just don't chance it.

Good luck to you! and try to get some rest yourself so you can care for your little one! I have slept only 3 hours total since my daughter has been sick.

~~*Missi*~~ replied:
Yeah as if the ear infections aren't enough she is getting her last set of molars

I feel so horrible I wish I could have the ear infections just to not see her in pain. I don't know mothers do it with kids that have had ALOT more then one at 16m.
I have been lucky in that aspect that this is the first set.....and better be the last

Nicole, how have ya been? She is passed out on the floor right now. Ahhhh triminic(?). Poor thing

I am going to Rite Aid to look for the drops for her ears. I will do anything at this point.

~~*Missi*~~ replied:
O my gawd. I am sorry that your going thru this to. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
Last night was the first night she slept. It was from 10pm til 3pm so I guess I can't complain. The rest of the nights she would wake up like every two hours screaming holy HE double hockey sticks!!!!

She is drinking apple juice, gatorade, pedialyte, and 2oz of milk a day. At this point I just let her take whatever. As long as fluids are going in I am happy!!!

She has diaherra very very bad thou. The doctor says its common with Amoxicillin and he was going to put her on augmentin but went with Cefzil cause it maybe alittle gentler on the tummy.

We are knocking the first outs left adn right here. First ear infection, first double ear infection, first antibotic, first IV ...... These are the FIRST ALL MOTHERS can do with out....... We got til 16months so thats a bonus.

I hope your dd feels better also. I can't imagine going thru this more then once. I now have the BIGGEST sympathy compassion for mommies and babies that get reccurent ear infections. Poor little babies!

mommymonster replied: Thank you! She has finally eaten cheese sticks from Sonic. I do not normally let them eat fast food, but I was so exhausted. I just did not want bto fall asleep over the stove! rolleyes.gif

On the bright side, since your little baby has knocked out so many 'first', maybe it will be a long time until yall go through it again wub.gif

aspenblue1 replied: Have you tried the over the counter ear drops that numb their ears. Kyrsten is getting tubes on friday becuase she has been fighting ear infections for 5 weeks now and they have not been able to get rid of it. They keep telling me to give her motrin or tylenol but they finally gave her some numbing drops on monday. They helped a lot. I know my friend has used the over the counter and she said they mad a big difference.

~~*Missi*~~ replied: You know what. I am a moron LOL I went to the store to get her "new" antibotics and forgot to look for the numbing meds.
I feel so bad for her. She is being pumped full of drugs and its the only thing that makes her comfortable.
5 WEEKS O MY GAWD I will be in a home by then!!! Tomorrow is Dh's day off YEAH and well I am sleeping in so that I may refresh myself. LOL

I am going to the store first thing in the morning to look for those drops again. Thanks all.
Sabrina ate corn for dinner, thats all she wanted corn. We have tried Ice cream, popsicles, jello, pudding, bananas, etc... nothing.

Well I am praying for ALL the babies with Ear Infections and Mommies!!!
Thanks thanks.
These are the days that I wish I was pregnant or nursing or still had some Breastmilk saved! I would be dropping that in her ears and making her drink it! At this point I would probably be so desperate to take a donation BM! LOL

jacobsmama replied: hug.gif hug.gif I'm so sorry. Jacob had an ear infection like every other month if not every month the first year and half. He was on antibx and the first week it was terrible. hug.gif He also got high fevers and had to be in the hospital a few times. He also had a few febrile seizures sad.gif I know where you are coming from and there isn't alot you can do but just forget everything else and sit and hold her. wub.gif That is what I had too for Jacob, Sometimes the comfort of their own mommy or daddy is the best medicine.

Good luck to you and I hope she feels better very soon! hug.gif

luvmykids replied: Poor little girl, and poor mommy! No advice, just sympathy. Colt had ear infections once a month until he turned 2. Hugs to both of you, hope she feels better really soon! hug.gif

3xsthefun replied: I sure hope she is feeling better soon! hug.gif

My2Beauties replied: Hanna had 8 ear infections by the time she was 6 mos old so we had to get tubes put in her ears. They are awful, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Poor baby girl, I hope this is your last ear infection you ahve to deal with! hug.gif

BAC'sMom replied: I really don’t have any more advice than what you have already. All my children have had ear infections; my youngest has one right now. Keep a supply of the ear drops, they are like gold when it’s 3:00 in the morning and you have a sick kid. If you prop them up that can help sometimes help with the pain. Be patient !

Hope she feels better soon.
