A Virginia mother is accused of driving from Alabama to Virginia with her children in the trunk of her car. Authorities in Loudoun County have charged Cheryl Ann Schoonmaker with felony child abuse and cruelty.

Investigators say the woman drove 8 hours to drop the children off at her ex-husband's house in Northern Virginia. The woman said all five children wouldn't fit in the car she had rented so she made them take turns riding in the trunk.

None of the children were hurt.

This is the third reported case of its type in Northern Virginia this summer. Just two weeks ago, a Quantico woman was charged for forcing her child into the trunk of her car as punishment.
