Gum
Kaitlin'smom wrote: Just wondering what your thought are on gum.
moped replied: Even thought his question doesn't apply to me cause jack is only just 2, I said no......I wouldn't until they were older.........for lots of reasons. My mom had to cut off all my hair when i was little because I got it all over me - LOLOL
amynicole21 replied: I really try to restrict Sophia's gum usage, but she gets it once every couple of weeks if she is really really being good
luvmykids replied: Mine get gum fairly regularaly, I was very anti-gum until the pedicatrician said the new ingredient in sugarless gum is great for teeth.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: absolutely not Alex is only 2, and IMHO that is way too young to be chewing gum He would def. make a giant mess of it and possibly choke on it
Kaitlin'smom replied: really, do you have any more info on this?
I wont let Kait have gum.
JP&KJMOM replied: Mine to Monica. It is called xylitol and it is in Trident bubble gum flavor now. Mine love it and the dentist says xylitol is great. We use floride at home with it in there too. I think it breaks down the sugar from food that stays on the teeth but I can not remember all the details.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thanks I am looking up info on it now.
humm this is one thing I found How often? If used only occasionally or even as often as once a day, xylitol may NOT be effective, regardless of the amount. Use xylitol at least three, and preferably 5 times every day.
not going to give her gum that often...NO way. I dont even chew gum very often.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I (Chris has always hated gum) let the girls have it, often since I tend to chew it alot. It is a teensy weensy amount, though. About the size of a small childs tooth. Kellie swallows it, and I have learned that with large quantities it has an effect on her bm's. So only tiny amounts for her, and to be fair Christian gets small amounts too.
Momof3inMe replied: We have a no gum rule at my house most of the time. Emily thinks she should be able to have gum and I dont really like her to b/c of the mess she can make with it, but with 2 older brothers its hard to not have gum here. So I try to say if you want gum you need to have it when she is sleeping or dont chew it around her.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Mine are too young for gum yet, and neither DH or I chew gum so they don't even know what it is I don't think.
PrairieMom replied: okay, here is what we do with gum. The boy is 3. He thinks that gum is the best thing in the world. when we go grocery shopping he gets a gumball. The rules are he has to hang on to the cart, keep his hand off the shelves and listen and be a good boy. If he isn't, we are done with the gum. I usually only have to remind him once. He is a total prince every time we do this. Once we leave the walmart his gum is "done" and we spit it out.
my2monkeyboys replied: I don't give Will gum very often at home, but my MIL gives him a piece just about every time he goes to her house (2-3 times a week). Most of the time it's sugar free, so I don't worry about too much. He used to swallow it alot at first, until he realized he wouldn't get anymore if he did that. Now he's a "good" chewer... usually he'll chew for it 30 min or so, then put it in the trash can.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Jade has not had gum. I'm just not sure about it so I don't give it to her.
coasterqueen replied: I don't have a problem with gum. Kylie has had it on occassion and if she's been given it at a party I don't take it out of her goody bag, I let her have it. We've sat her down and explained how she can't swallow it and she's stuck to that rule. She accidently swallowed it once and freaked out, poor thing.
Btw, I found that info on sugarless gum interesting. I agree with Di, I think if it has to be chewed that many times a day it's not going to happen in my house. Besides I thought sugarless gum has nutrasweet in it, which I'm definitely not a fan of.
Nina J replied: Emily has it occassionaly. I always worry she might get it in her hair, but DH told her if she got it in her hair you have to shave it off and it won't grow back Which wasn't very nice, but she keeps it in her mouth the whole time she has it.
3xsthefun replied: The girls don't get gum that often. Maybe once or twice every couple of months. Really, we don't chew gum that much (Rob or I), so we don't buy it that often.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Tanner gets it occassionally. If he swallows it though, I do not give him a new piece. I would say, maybe once a month he has it, if that even.
