The new experiences are really coming this week!
Today Katherine did her first, real somersault. She did 6 in a row and was super proud of herself. She said “I did it mommy!” with a huge grin…It was great.
Yesterday she dressed herself in her pj’s for the first time too. Ok, the shirt was backwards but other than that, she did it, perfectly, all by herself.
She’s growing up so fast! _______________________________________________
Josie83 replied: Katherine's getting so big and clever! She's totally ready to be a big sis! By the way, might seem like a stupid question, but what do you mean by somersault? xx
amynicole21 replied: WTG, Katherine!! That is amazing. I don't think we've ever shown Sophia how to do a somersault! Something new for K to teach her this weekend
MommyToAshley replied: Wow, that's amazing! WTG K!!!
I don't think I've ever shown Ashley how to do one either. She almost does one on her own though, but doesn't quiet flip over. She more or less rolls to the side.
kimberley replied: WOW! what a big girl!!! WTG K!!
kit_kats_mom replied: ROFLMBO. You guys seriously think I actually showed her how to do one? Uh-hua, my fat preggo self rolling around on the ground? Riiiiiight. I'd have never gotten back up if I tried.
I helped her a few times by putting my hand on her hiney and telling her to "tuck her chin". That was about 6 months ago. All of a sudden, about a month ago, she started trying it but she'd always end up flinging herself on her side. I have some video that I'll put on my webpage later this week. Anyway, today was the first time that she actually went all the way over onto her back without help.
Josie, a somersault is a basic tumbling/gymnastics move. its when you put your head on the floor and push with your legs and roll over onto your back. Did that explain it? Here is the definition from the dictionary: Main Entry: som·er·sault Pronunciation: 's&-m&r-"solt Function: noun Etymology: Middle French sombresaut leap, ultimately from Latin super over + saltus leap, from salire to jump -- more at OVER, SALLY : a leap or roll in which a person turns forward or backward in a complete revolution bringing the feet over the head and finally landing on the feet; also : a falling or tumbling head over heels - somersault intransitive verb
ediep replied: WTG!!!! my sis used to be a gymnastics teacher....she would be so proud!
coasterqueen replied: Wow that's awesome Cary. I know I haven't taught Kylie to do a somersault. I guess I was afraid she'd get a neck injury if she didn't do it just right. Although I am looking into putting her into gymnastics class at some point here, lol.
WTG K!!!!
I also haven't let Kylie dress herself. I just don't have the patience lately and she only wants to put clothes on her legs...she hates putting things over her head.
Josie83 replied: O that's right! We would call it a forward roll, when you said somersault I thought you meant the ones like I used to do in gymnastics, where you do a load of flips then jump, spin round in the air and land on your feet! I THOUGHT that sounded a bit hi-teach!!!! xx
Kirstenmumof3 replied: WTG KATHERINE! gETTING TO BE SUCH A BIG GIRL!
