Grrrr....this stinks - Spring Break
luvmykids wrote: Ok so I thought I was looking for plane tickets in PLENTY of time for spring break, but the fares are already close to $500 bucks each....me and four kids, you do the math I don't know if that means we can or can't go, but it's a lot more money than I wanted to spend on airfare ![growl.gif](http://forums.parentingclub.com/html/emoticons/growl.gif)
And yes, I've tried every combo of different days to see if anything else is cheaper
Calimama replied: I noticed that the other day when I was booking my sister a flight. They get soooo expensive!! I hope you're able to find something.
luvmykids replied: It probably wouldn't have been so shocking except that I got DH's ticket for this trip for under $300
mckayleesmom replied: where you going?
Have you tried Sun Country Airlines....the only fly to some places...but they are usually cheap.
A&A'smommy replied: YIKES that sucks!!!!
Calimama replied: DH and I can fly to NYC for 612!! Thanks for posting that.
mckayleesmom replied: Your welcome....my mom use to buy me and Mckaylee tickets from Minneapolis to Bullhead City Arizona for 129 dollars round trip
luvmykids replied: They don't fly here, or where we need to go, Atlanta
I was thinking I would actually take the plunge on priceline and try to get my price, but with all the kids and considering it will be the first time on a plane for any of them, it makes me nervous to think of getting a wacky schedule
mckayleesmom replied: are you still in Albequir (sp)....I was about to butcher that spelling....Anyways...don't they have a train that goes through there? When me and my mom moved from Cali to Illinois...we took the train the whole way and I know we stopped in Albequirce...You might want to check and see if they go to Atlanta.
You would think I could spell the name of the city my dad was born and raised in...
luvmykids replied: LOL, it's Albuquerque Not quite in it, but near it. I hadn't thought of the train, I wonder if the kids could handle it, I'm sure it does run between here and ATL.
mckayleesmom replied: It does....I just checked for you.....You have to be charged for 2 adults and 2 children because they only allow you to buy the discounted kids tickets 2 per adult...
It was 855 dollars and I think it said it would take 25 hours...
luvmykids replied: Where did you see that LOL? The only schedule I saw was from here to Chicago, Chicago to somewhere, and that place to Atlanta....two days later
I have to go check again
mckayleesmom replied: Oh...I also just put in random dates...not sure of your exact dates..so the prices might be different.
mckayleesmom replied: Oh...I didn't see that..
mckayleesmom replied: Ugh...nevermind that....Have you thought about a road trip??
luvmykids replied: It's 25 hours from here to Chicago, 17 hrs from there to either Washington DC or Alexandria, VA, and 13 hours from either of those places to Atlanta. Sheesh they really take you the long way
Over the summer when we have more time I would love to do that though, maybe I could con my mom into going with me
Did you happen to see any of the bedrooms? Did you guys have to sleep on the train? I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to an actual room with that many kids
Calimama replied: YES YES YES YES. If you take a train get a private room with beds, I'm 100% sure you will regret it if you don't!
luvmykids replied: Wait, how sure are you?
I was just looking at their virtual tour, I think even one room would be claustrophobic, but maybe with my mom we could get two rooms....and then pay as much as the airfare would cost
Bit it really does look cool, definitely something to think about for another trip!
Calimama replied: It's a blast!!
Minus being cramped, cold, it's bumpy, loud, having too many stops, too long of a wait period, crappy terminals, the ride made me a bit nauseous, rude passengers, and a general all around claustrophobic feeling..
I'm so not a train girl.
Calimama replied: Oh it is.
sparkys2boys replied: So what your saying is you LOVED it..lol
luvbug00 replied:
DO IT! DO IT! you can stay with us while you wait for your next leg of your trip!!!!
luvmykids replied: I think it was a five hour layover, lots of time to hang out
