Ground beef thawed, what to make?

amynicole21 wrote: I'm so sick of spaghetti and baked ziti that I may just puke if I have to eat it again! We also do tacos a lot and I'm not a fan. Any ideas for what to do with ground beef that's quick and easy and kid-friendly?

5littleladies replied: Tater tot hotdish? My kids never say no to that! happy.gif

coasterqueen replied: Meatloaf. That's if you like it. blush.gif Dh and I do. Just use seasoning, crackers, egg, milk, and ketchup - mix it all together then put on 375 for 45 minutes and it's done.

coasterqueen replied:
Ok what's the recipe for that, Jennifer? happy.gif

momofone replied: chili is good yummy.gif

Boys r us replied: Hmmm...what about some mini cheeseburgers?

5littleladies replied:
Now Karen, being midwest gal I would expect you to know this. wink.gif

Brown 1 lb. of hamburger, drain, and mix with 2 cans Cream of Mushroom soup and 1 pkg of frozen corn or 2 cans, whatever you have (you could also use green beans if you prefer). Dump it into a 13x9 baking dish and cover completely with tater tots. Bake in a 400 degree oven for about 40-45 minutes (or until your tots are heated all the way through!).

Seriously-My family would eat this all the time if I let them. rolleyes.gif

luvmykids replied:
That is a crowd pleaser here too!

How about sloppy joes or cheesburger pie? It used to be on the Bisquick Box and my kids ask for it all the time, super easy:

1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
1/2 cup Original Bisquick® mix
1 cup milk
2 eggs

1. Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 9-inch glass pie plate with cooking spray.
2. In 10-inch skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain. Stir in salt. Spread in pie plate. Sprinkle with cheese.
3. In small bowl, stir remaining ingredients with fork or wire whisk until blended. Pour into pie plate.
4. Bake about 25 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

coasterqueen replied:
I did not know about it, but I do recall Sarah talking about it before.

Amy - what about hamburger horseshoes. yummy.gif

bawoodsmall replied: what are hamburger horseshoes? I always need new ideas for ground beef.

Dh loves tater tot casserole also...and the kids...you cant go wrong with it. I am kinda getting sick of it though.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I make sweet and sour meatballs. Your fry them first for a little while and then you transfer them into and oven safe pan, you can make your own sweet and sour sauce or you can buy a jar of it. I serve it with rice and veggies. You can also used mushroom soup instead of sweet and sour sauce and serve them mashed potatoes and veggies.

Teesa®© replied:
I throw in a Cream of whatever soup into mine as well smile.gif . Sometimes I throw in a cup of peas and corn - 1/2 cup each. If I don't really have enough hamburg and I'm really craving meatloaf, I'll throw in a cup each. I usually make mine in bread loaf tins because it's the only thing I have that's oven safe and will make a decent amount of meatloaf. I do have cake tins that I'll make it in, but it's just not the same when it's "flat". But I "draw" in it then - happy faces or a rainbow rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

We all love meatloaf here smile.gif smile.gif

PrairieMom replied: I was gonna say Tacos. laugh.gif Chili sounds good on a day like we are having here.
you could always go with just plain old hamburgers too. wink.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: we do plain beef patties a lot around here.

amynicole21 replied:
tongue.gif Explain to me hamburger horseshoes, please huh.gif

I just found the tater tot casserole online and thought it looked promising! We do cheeseburger pie at least once a week, too wink.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Hamburger horseshoes......

Put a layer of toast down on the plate (toasted or just plain bread) then a hamburger patty (cooked)(or you can use any kind of meat), then a layer of french fries (cooked or baked) then a layer of cheese sauce. YUM!!!

bawoodsmall replied:
That sounds so good. My fam would love it. Can you use buns? I have to have buns for like hamburgers. I am so gonna try that.

coasterqueen replied:
Yep. You can use any kind of bread you want. Most times when you order it in a restaurant it comes on Texas toast.

:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied:
We make this quite a bit but we use frozen broccoli and put cheese on top. The kids LOVE it! This is the only time I can get them to eat broccoli. But it is made the same way with the Cream of Mushroom soup.

Good Stuff!! rolling_smile.gif

amynicole21 replied: Well, we tried the tater tot casserole and it didn't go over well... the kids are so freaking picky! mad.gif They refused to eat a single bite. AAAARGH! What could be more kid friendly? Geesh. Now they are begging for snacks which they aren't getting. dry.gif

5littleladies replied:
Oohhh that sounds yummy!! My kids LOVE broccoli and would probably gobble that down. happy.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: i'm not a huge fan of Kraft Dinner... but when I do make it, I put ground beef in it.

Um... you can mix it with onions, garlic, celery, spinach, rice and some cream of whatever soup (and-or ricotta cheese), add some chopped up bits of italian sausage, and stuff it in those huge pasta shells... cover with some spag sauce and cheese, put in oven until heated through or cheese melts... @ 350

MommyToAshley replied: I know it's a little late, but maybe you can make this next time. Monica posted it when I was looking for ground turkey recipes and I love it! I make this with the ground turkey, but I bet it is good with the hamburger too.

1 lb lean ground beef or ground turkey
1/2 c chopped onion (I add minced garlic too)
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
3/4 c uncooked rice
1 c water
2 c zucchini (about one good sized one), sliced about 1/4 inch slices
1 large tomato chopped
1 can or box tomato basil soup (like Progressive or Campbells select, not the kind you add water to)
2 c shredded mozerella cheese

Heat oven to 375, spray 13x9 baking dish. In skillet, cook meat and onion over med-high heat until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently. Drain, sprinkle with salt and pepper.

In baking dish combine rice and water, stir well. Layer meat, zucchini and tomato. Pour soup over top. Cover tightly with foil.

Bake 40 minutes, uncover, sprinkle cheese over top and return to oven 10 minutes or until edges are bubbly.

bawoodsmall replied:
Sorry Amy sad.gif Maybe its a good thing. That casserole cant be healthy.

coasterqueen replied:
rolling_smile.gif Yeah, but kids like everything that's NOT healthy.

Amy - I'm sorry they didn't like it. I think my kids would like it without all the veggie stuff and cream of mushroom stuff. So basically just the hamburger and tater tots. rolleyes.gif

amynicole21 replied:
I didn't have any veggies and used cream of asparagus because none of us can stand mushrooms wink.gif It just didn't "look" normal to them, so they refused to eat it. AAAARGH!

luvmykids replied: I'm so glad you posted that recipe, Dee Dee, I'm making that tonight and can't find it rolling_smile.gif
