Gotta brag on my little girl - re: night weaning.
kit_kats_mom wrote: I hope I'm not jinxing myself by posting this but I have to share our success story! Katherine was not letting me get any sleep. She had to be attached to the boob to sleep and if I made her let go, she woke up screaming. I couldn't take it anymore so we worked on a night weaning plan. DH bore the brunt of it because he slept with her while I slept on the sofa bed for the last week. The plan was to put her to bed at her regular time (around 8) and nurse her if she woke up until 11 then not nurse her until 6. Well, K has different ideas and apparently gets ravenous at 5am so I modified the plan a little. I quit nursing her in bed, I got her out of bed every time she woke up until 11 and nursed her in the rocker. Then I set my alarm for 5am and went upstairs to rock and nurse again. DH said she was waking up about 5 times a night but that the 5am time was the only one he couldn't calm her down through. Well, last night I decided that it was time to try and sleep in the family bed again and....drumroll please....she only woke up at 5 and 7am to feed and she slept until 8! I am doing the happy dance.
Now we have to work on the fact that she will still not self soothe. She has to be laying on you to get back to sleep and transitioning her off of you onto the bed is always a hairy experience since we are terrified of waking her up and having to start all over. However, I'll take the sleep however I can get it.

I think I'm going to have to start getting Hannah to fall asleep without her "yummies". I'm NOT looking forward to it, because it's going to be a very noisy house here. She can fall asleep on her own for naps (most of the time), but it's not her favorite thng to do.
aspenblue1 replied: That is great. I am glad the night weaning is going so well for you.
kimberley replied: WTG K! great news, hope it keeps up for you!
Kaitlin'smom replied: sounds like things are headed in the right direction...............woo hoo keep it up K!
Schnoogly replied: OH yeaaaaaahhhhh! That is excellent!!! 5am is a bad time for us too--sometimes he won't go back to sleep afterwards.
Hope you're not jinxing! Seems like maybe finally she was ready?? Dh gets the certificate of appreciation. It took a whole week though? We haven't done it for more than 2 days in a row with DH only. He still wakes up every 1-3 hours to nurse when he's with me, and about the same with DH (but also getting him back to sleep on the bed is tough for DH--Iain sleeps on his arm!) One night he slept 8:30-3:30 for DH!! Just one night though...
A&A'smommy replied: oohh congratulations!! WTG Kat!!! i hope you arent jinxing it too!!!!
jen replied: That sounds like a GREAT accomplishment!!! WTG K! and mom and dad too!
DansMom replied: Wow, congratulations! We didn't do the nightweaning regimen over the holidays like we planned---we have a guest staying with us, and I didn't want to put her through the inconsolable wailing. Daniel has one good 4 hour stretch now, and I love it. It sounds like you may have hit on a good formula, and made a good start!
MommyToAshley replied: Sounds like your plan is working... And, WTG K! Keep it up!
supermom replied: Glad to hear that it is working so far for you - and hope all goes well!! HUGS to you all
ediep replied: yay Katherine!!! Good Work Mommy and Daddy!!!
coasterqueen replied: YAY Katherine! I'm so jealous!!!! Enjoy the sleep
MomToJade&Jordan replied: All right K!!!!! Way to let your poor Mom finally get some sleep. You have a great plan and I hope that it finally starts to really work for you. It took me a long time to get Jade to the point she is now and we still have our nights. Jade has a cold right now so it has been waking her up a couple of times at night. In the afternoons for nap time she usually falls asleep on the couch drinking some milk with me and then we move her to her crib. Once you can get K to stay asleep after you have moved her then you are home free. The hardest step is the self soothe. Jade has three little toys that she has to be holding to fall asleep. Part of the ritual at night is to hand her each of her toys and then she moves to be placed in her crib. I cover her up and then tell her I love her. I usually walk backwards telling her I love her and Night Night until I have gotten to the door. I give her one more night night then I close the door. She even tells me night night back some nights. Enjoy that sleep and Good Luck!!!!!!!

We are going to start trying to night wean again now that we are back from vacation. Not looking forward to the sleepless nights walking her around the house, but hopefully it will be a quick transition.
Congrats!
