Got the girls hooked
C&K*s Mommie wrote: on boiled peanuts! Just popping in for a sec. The girls and I are in the LR eating boiled peanuts, and they caught on how to open them with their teeth. That and they are feeding the dog the shells. Chris and I are both suckers for them. He had me hooked on them some 8yrs ago, when we stopped at a convienence store and they had them. We have not had them in months because of the sodium content, but today was a treat for us all!
kayla's mama replied: I've heard of them but never tried them. They sound pretty good. Enjoy your treat
C&K*s Mommie replied: TY, Brandi. If you ever were inspired to try them, I would not reccommend the green boiled peanuts in a can. They are smaller, and IMO not as good as the fresh ones.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Now you have me craving them. I wonder where I could find some around here.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I know of two gas stations in Tallahassee that have them. But none here have them as far as I know.
You may try a flea market around your town, Aimee. At our only flea market, there is a vendor that sells them. I am not fond of getting them from there, because everything he has around there is absolutely filthy, like it has never been washed. Even the cash register is disgusting, so I only got them one time ETS: I saw the filth after I already ordered them, and I felt bad about cancelling it.
Hope you find some.
TANNER'S MOM replied: My Stepdad is from GA..and I guess they are all the rage there! I love them too!
paradisemommy replied: yep..they are a very popular treat here too!!
amymom replied: Never heard of them or had them. How are they different than roasted peanuts?
luvbug00 replied: Ok now Nicole i've been asking family in moussuri for like 3 months now. WHAT is a boiled penut?? like how is it differant then a regular one??
holley79 replied: Oh I can't stand them. It's the texture of them. Too much like a bean to me. Shawn and Brandon can put a hurtin on some BP though.
Bee_Kay replied: Again (like the grits post), I've never tried them.... actually I've never heard of them until recently. My sister's husband (they married last summer) is from Mississipi and he mentioned them. That's the first I'd even heard of boiled peanuts.
CantWait replied: I'd like to know also......what's a boiled peanut???
C&K*s Mommie replied: What you ask is it? Only the best snack on earth! Completely addicitive. LOL J/K This is what I found. The difference between a boiled and roasted is mainly that the boiled is a soft shelled peanut. Typically saltier than roasted, and the brine that it is cooked in, enters the shell. Peanuts grown and harvested specifically for boiling are called 'green' peanuts. While ones grown for roasting, are known as just that- roasting. Oh and 'typically "old timers" will drop the shelled nuts in a bottle of RC cola, and gulp down the combo.' Chris used to put regular shelled nuts in a Coke bottle, so I guess it is along the same lines. They usually come in roadside varieties of original salty, and cajun. I have yet to see/hear of any other variety- but I am curious if they make them with any other flavoring.
Here is a pic of this great snack boiling:

Here is a recipe for them:
INGREDIENTS:
1-1/2 quarts green uncooked peanuts 1/2 cup salt* 2-1/2 quarts water PREPARATION:
Wash peanuts until water runs clear. Put nuts in crockpot. Add salt and water. Stir well. Cover and cook on high for 5 to 7 hours. If necessary, add additional water to keep peanuts covered. *The peanuts will get saltier the longer they sit in their cooking liquid. In fact, I store mine in the liquid in the refrigerator. We love to eat them hot or cold.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I personally can't stand them! I don't like the texture.
Brias3 replied: Never tried them but enjoy the treat!
Leithan replied: I like to make my own, I just get the roasted kind in the shell and put them in a crock pot on high for a few houres, I add salt and a bottle of La. hot sauce. They come out kind of pink but they taste great. I'm not to sure about boiling times, it uselly takes our crock pot between three and four houres at a boil to soften them up.
C&K*s Mommie replied: We have never made our own, but that it is something we have been meaning to do. Chris likes his food HOT, so the hot sauce would work for him. I would have to have my own separate batch from his.
