Got my first..... - Speeding tickets
CantWait wrote: yesterday I opened my mailbox and there it was. My first speeding ticket. Crap, and I only had less then 2 weeks left in AB.
Ok not to make a joke of it, I'm actually quite ashamed of myself, and will definetly watch the speedomitor a bit more. I'm also a little weired out because it means that someone was able to take a picture of my car while I was driving, sounds odd but it's just wired to me.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I think there still is a big fuss about that, but taking pics esp of drivers running lights still happens-- I think it happens more in big cities, though. I have not heard of it here, in Tallahassee, I saw the cameras on stop lights but I never rec'd a ticket.
Sorry about that. Can you take the courses and not have the points added to your license? Or in Canada are license points different? Will your auto insurance take a jump now?
CantWait replied: Because the car is registered under Ron's name and they have no proof who was driving because it was radar (I wasn't stopped by a police) no demerit points will be taken away. Also I don't believe the insurance will find out anyway ( I hope not because now that we're moving to NB it just dropped half way).
J-rod replied: those camera cops are a joke, i wanna buy that clear paint you put on your LP and it makes it unreadable....so they say.
anyways...i dont like the red light camera's and camera speed traps.
ive had a ticket before...when i was 18. i got out of 3 tickets in 4 weeks last summer in my GT vert. got VERY lcuky....coulda gone to jail for a nigth for one of them...learned my lesson and grew up fast. lol
1lilpeanut2love replied: NO! I am proud to say I have never had a ticket. I have only been driving/ had my license for 2 years though. Knock on Wood I hope and pray that I never get one! I am a major Speed Queen too. I hate going slow. I am always looking out of my mirrors for police!
mammag replied: Yes, I got one ticket........when I had my learners permit. I still speed but watch like a hawk for police. Chris teases me all the time and says I'm afraid of the law but it's not really that I'm afraid of the law.....just have lots of things I'd rather spend $100 on than giving it to the law.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I live in a pretty small town, not many "big cities" in Maine..... and we have those cameras at some stop lights here. They were installed to catch people running red lights at the busiest intersections.
I have never had a speeding ticket ever.
TheOaf66 replied: have not gotten any tickets in quite some time, I did when i was younger, I watch a little more and know where to spot speed traps etc, plus when Tanner is in the car he is amazing at picking out police cars like 5 blocks away so he always says "Daddy, police car"
siblingtoolivia replied: I got a few when I was younger but don't get them now, my husband is a Sheriff and the cop's wife thing works like a charm - although I have to say I have not used it for speeding but did when I took a right on red where I wasn't supposed to - on accident!!!! Speeding is pretty much a thing of the past when I became a mom, took much precious cargo!!
moped replied: I got one of those in the mail too - I tried to blame it on Tom but we all knew it was me - darn!
CantWait replied: Oh I can see the police cars here also. Problem is the photo radar isn't always in a cop car, sometimes it's in a regular civy automobile.
3xsthefun replied: No, I have never gotten one. I've been pretty lucky. There is couple times I thought for sure I would.
Ashlynn's Mommy replied: That happened to me, and my S/O. We were driving through the city. I think it was about 2 or 3 weeks later we recieved a ticket in the mail with a black and white picture of our car going through the red light. It kind of freaked me out too.
gr33n3y3z replied: No But very lucky I guess Knock on wood
kayla's mama replied: I've gotten too many tickets to count I'll just say that I was really, really close to lossing my liscence.
JP&KJMOM replied: I voted no to never having a speeding ticket but I did get my FIRST ticket EVER a few months ago for running red light. I swear it was yellow but Jason assured me that they don't stop you for running yellow lights.
MommyToAshley replied: That sucks... sorry.
When I was in college and working full time, I received quite a few speeding tickets. I was young and foolish, and always late. I had to take a class to have points removed from my license in order not to have my license taken away. And, that's not taking into account all the tickets that I got out of. I don't think I was ever excessively speeding, I just lived in a city that was very strict on speeding. But, I am still not proud of it and I have slowed down and haven't had a ticket in a very long time. In fact, I am back in the safe driver discount bracket for my car insurance.
I don't have any experience with the "camera cops" though. Do you still have to pay the normal amount or can you protest it?
mummy2girls replied: oh my yes i have had quite a few radar tickets. And they dont do demirts off your liscense because they dont have proof it was you driving. because it could of been a family member or friend that borrowed your car and got it... I have had over 10 and i have a clean record with no demerits...LOL...
funny you should bring this up... i had gotten a radar ticket for 100 bucks and then the next day opened my mail box to find yet another one. I was so mad at myself! I was scared to open my mailbox the next day in fear of finding yet another. And then just 2 days agao yes i recieved yet another. And it in teh same spot. its on the way to work. i keep forgetting that its a school zone and you have to drive 30MPH between 730 and 430. and i keep forgetting so at 745 when i approach this place every time i sometimes catch my self and go 30 but there are times i forget! UGH!
CantWait replied: What about insurance Shelly. Does it affect that?
mummy2girls replied: nope none at all. when i call for quotes they always ask if i got speeding ticlets. I say yes radar. they say that doesnt count because again they can not prove im the one that was driving my car. Its different though if it was a ticket where the police pulled me over... because thats when they have proof yoyu did it.. then demirits are taken with that... so i wouldnt worry Marie...LOL
MyLuvBugs replied: Be glad you don't live in the Phoenix AZ metro area then. There are cameras at almost every major intersection and now in Scottsdale AZ they actually have them on the freeway, and have caught speeds upto 115 MPH. It's just insane!!
I personally feel like they are a good thing. Makes me feel a little safer, eventhough I'm a speeder myself. lol
coasterqueen replied: I got one, but I didn't get one til my 2nd year on this job so that was well into my 20's. I was late for a golf outing in another town and I sped in an area I honestly didn't realize the speed limit was lower than what I was going at the time.
Course I got my first wreck ticket at the age of 16, just a few months after I got my license. Then got my second one at 17.
