Got a scare last night
Kaitlin'smom wrote: I got Kaitlin down around 8:30p last night put her in bed with the vaporizor on with a small amount of the vicks in it (ok'd by doc and a repatory therpist). Well about 10p she started crying not the nornal I am hungry or hold me cry, I was in bed and about to get up when I see David (DH) go and get her, well then he ran into the bedroom with her and said we have a problem she is not moving. I turned on the light and grabbed my glasses and took her she had her eyes open and was screaming. He said when he went to get her she was laying flat on her stomach and crying (she usually is sitting or staning when she cries). He went to pick her up and she would not move it was like a rag doll. I laied her on our bed and looked her, her eyes were huge and the screams were nothing I had heard before. SO I held her and tried to calm her and walked out to the living room with her. She would not calm down, so I though maybe hungry so I tried to nurse her she would not take me, she had NEVER done that before, So I looked at her again she littlery looked petrified, almost with the look like help me mommy something is not right. I yelled at mt DH to call 911, I did not know what else to do. So he did, he told them everything that was going on. Well after he got off the phone and the medics were on the way she took her thumb, and started to calm down. Then she started with the cries again so I tried once agian to nurse her this time offering the oppsite side she took, I was relived and she statred having movements again. So the medic gets there and she is nursing so we talk to them, she stopped nursing and they look her over, listen to her and she seemd to be okay just now tired and hungry. So they leave and DH appoliges to them for the false alarm, they said no problem call us anytime you need us thats what we are hear for. I was still scared not know what happend we boththoght it was the vic vapor that made her limp, so DH cleaned it out and opened her window to air it out, the we just put water in it. After we got her back to sleep, DH was online and someone in his gaming group said oh that happend to us the doctor called it night terror! Oh my I never though about that, so I did some reading/checking and yep I believe she had a night terror, that would certanily explain how she acted.
Night Terrors Symptoms: Sudden awakening from sleep, persistent fear or terror that occurs at night, screaming, sweating, confusion, rapid heart rate, inability to explain what happened, usually no recall of "bad dreams" or nightmares, may have a vague sense of frightening images. Many people see spiders, snakes, animals or people in the room, are unable to fully awake, difficult to comfort, with no memory of the event on awakening the next day.
So needless to say I slep in her room and laied there for hours listing to her, and waking up at every sound, making sure she was really ok.
I was never so scared in my life, it really made me see how much I absoluty love my little girl.
At least now I know what a night terror is, and what to look for. wheew what a night. On the up side she seems perfectly normal this morning, diper was soaked and full of poo. She seems to be feeling better also.
Now hopefully I can get some sort of sleep tonight.
Sorry that was long, thanks for reading, and sorry for any typos
amynicole21 replied: Sophia has done this to me twice now - same thing... will not nurse, screaming like she is being tortured. I know exactly how scary it is!!! I'm sorry you had such a bad night!
momma2jenna replied: how horrifying! It was hard just reading your post. I cannot imagine what it must have been like for y'all. So very glad all is well today!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG I have heard of this before and I suspected that Claudia had a few of these but never knew what the syptoms were. Now I know that what we experieced with Claudia was a night terror. Poor Kailin I hope she doesn't have to many of these. I hope you all get some sleep tonight.
booey2 replied: Hugs to all of you. I have never experienced this but have read about it before. I did some research only because I dream a lot and remember them. And I think that Matthew is going to be just like me and Thomas is starting to show signs that he is going to be just like me too. So I wanted to make sure what to do if this happened to us. Hugs again and get some good sleep when you can.
DansMom replied: That's so scary---I would have been up all night after that too, just making sure the baby is okay. I think Daniel had some night terrors earlier, but not lately. They are pretty freaky.
MommyToAshley replied: OMG How scary! I would have freaked out!! You and your DH handled it great. So glad you figured out what it was and it wasn't tooo serious. <<<HUGS>>>
I hope she doesn't have any more of those!
coasterqueen replied: OMGosh that is so scary!!! I am glad that she was alright. WHEW!!! I would have been freaking out, too, and waking up at every noise to make sure she was okay. Why do they have to scare us like that?
Guest_jem0622 replied: Lots of hugs. I have heard from parents who experienced this and it is quite a trial.

A&A'smommy replied: wow that is scary, that scared me reading it!!!!! My mom said i had those when i was a baby, im glad you showed what the symtoms are so i will know what to expect if my baby gets them! <<<<HUGS>>>> I hope you get some sleep tonight!!!!
~CrazieMama~ replied: Oh I know just what you went through. My son did this when he was a baby. It was sooooooo scary. Hugs to you and family.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thanks everyone, I feel better, but I know tonight I will worry that she will do it agian. I will try and sleep but it might have to be in her room again.
kit_kats mom replied: If your DH hadn't found those links, I would have suggested it. You described it perfectly. From someone who suffers from them...among other wierd sleeping things...I can't even begin to explain how terrifying they are. When you "wake up" you are paralyzed, literally. It's like the feeling you get when you are having a fight or running away in a nightmare,, but you feel like you are moving underwater and you can't get away. It's really, really bad. I'm glad that you were able to help her relax. Give her a hug from me cause I understand. A big hugs to your whole family.
CantWait replied: That sounds so scary Hopefully they'll be no more of that.
Kaitlin'smom replied: big hug to you I could not imagine suffering from it, it was bad enough seeing with my daughter. Are you being treated for it? if so what are they doing for you?
kit_kats_mom replied: I ended up doing a sleep study & seeing a neurologist. I have sleep-walked for as long as I can remember, had night terrors and grind my teeth & talk. I'm a mess. They put me on Wellbutrin, a mild anti depressent, and it all stopped. I quit taking the drug when I was TTC but I haven't walked or had a terror since. I think mine was mostly stress induced and I don't fall into a deep sleep very well. The wellbutiun helped both of those things.
