Goodwill is "in style"
Crystalina wrote: Izabella came home last week and asked if we could go to Goodwill. I asked her why and she said because some of her friends are going there and she "really" wants to go see what they have.
Then my niece (13) came home and told my sister she wants to go to Goodwill! This is from a girl who cringes at the site of yardsales and thinks Old Navy is "beneath her". Apparently Goodwill is the thing now? Is this new only in my area or are the kids wanting to do this where you live as well?
We haven't went yet but I better jump on it while it's "in".
MommyToAshley replied: "Once Upon A child" is huge around here. It's a second hand clothing store for kids. But, they are particular about what they take -- they only take name brand clothes and they have to be nearly perfect.
Crystalina replied: My sister always tells me about that place. I haven't been there yet but I always have their commercial jingle in my head.
MommyToAshley replied: I wanted to add, I don't mind buying clothes second-hand but they have to be from someone I know. I have a hard time buying clothes for Ashley when I don't know where they have been -- which is silly because I would always wash them before she wears them. I just have to know they come from a clean home (I'm such a weirdo) -- I used to buy a ton of stuff from Aimee as Maddie would outgrow them as Ashley was coming into that size.
momofone replied: Maybe because of the economy it is becoming more popular i agree take advantage of the bargains while it is "in"
moped replied: Yeah Once Upon a child is good, but honestly I was a bit insulted when I took a PILE of clothes there and they hardly took any and offered me a crappy price.......good stuff though!
coasterqueen replied: We have several similar places like that here. The problem I'm seeing these days is the second hand shops, including Goodwill are getting more expensive. I could go to Target and get cute outfits for the girls at CHEAPER prices than what you'd pay at the second hand stores, so sometimes, to me it doesn't make sense to shop at those places.
coasterqueen replied: Not trying to start anything here, but why does it have to be from a clean home? I mean, these places usually are VERY picky about what clothes they sell, and you wash them anyways, so they ARE CLEAN when you put them on your child. I guess I'm not understanding what you mean by clean home, then?
danahas4monkeys replied: Oh yeah here too! My 14 year old loves to go there!
MommyToAshley replied: As I said, I know it is silly and I am a weirdo about it, but it's just some mental block that I can't get past.
coasterqueen replied: Understood, I have many of those with my girls, as well. I think we all do, and probably more so as mothers.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: The Goodwill here is lousy... they have really junky stuff. I love going to Once Upon a Child. Ours will accept clothes that aren't name brand though, as long as it is in nice condition. I did notice though, the last time I was there, that they were selling a Wal-mart shirt for $3.50, which is the same price as Wal-mart was selling them for.
I like shopping there, but I'll never bring my anything to sell there because I've been in there when people bring stuff in and it's shocking how little they pay you for good stuff! I suppose they have to make a profit, but I think I'd get more for my stuff if I had a garage sale.
A&A'smommy replied: actually I read somewhere recently that it was in style everywhere and that second hand baby/kid sales (you know the REALLY big ones like little lambs) has become REALLY popular BUT you can get the big names brands for up to 75% cheaper so why not
mom21kid2dogs replied: Our VOA is nice but man have they raised the prices. It used to be a bargin (and it still can be) but I sure don't haul stuff out of there like I used to. I love to go in and watch the newbies shop, though. They get overwhelmed by the vast amount of stuff, I think. Too funny! Olivia has been hauled in their since she was a baby so she loves to go there!
luvmykids replied: I don't like the Goodwill here but in NM it was great....you could find a ton of stuff with tags still on it for a few bucks.
Brias3 replied: I'm totally the same way! Don't have a good reason why, I just am
Boo&BugsMom replied: I LOVE second hand shops! Our Goodwill use to really suck, but then they renovated it and made it bigger. Now it's pretty decent. I go there occassionally.
wcs40110 replied: That is just great.
Calimama replied: Haha that's crazy. I never would have guessed that would happen.
