luvmykids wrote: I was sitting here on the computer, fresh coffee in my hand, relaxing and enjoying the sounds of the kids playing and getting along.

DH walks in with his arms behind his back and says he has a suprise for me. It was a $&%^*$% four foot bullsnake wrapped around his arm ohmy.gif bawling.gif growl.gif Par for the course, I lost my breakfast and spilled my fresh coffee all over myself.

NOT NICE! growl.gif

luvbug00 replied: EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Calimama replied: OMG!! He found that outside?? huh.gif

luvmykids replied:
Yup, right out the back porch noooooo.gif noooooo.gif noooooo.gif noooooo.gif noooooo.gif

He just called and apologized, he said he thought I'd kind of come to grips with the snake thing. Uh, what would make him think that?!

I guess better that he found it outside than inside though laugh.gif

z613 replied: Oh My. Where do you live?

Calimama replied:
Well you didn't faint, I call that coming to grips. emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied:
laugh.gif Now if I could just stop losing my lunch everytime I see one rolling_smile.gif

I didn't hyperventilate this time though, maybe he has a point.....

btw-We live in the mountains in NM.

redchief replied: I know many of you don't like snakes, but I think bull snakes are awesome because they'll try to mimic a rattlesnake when they're alarmed. That to me is ingenious evolution. I wonder if they had a rattle at one time in their evolutionary development. dunno.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calimama replied:
Wow, that is pretty neat!! Great defense mechanism. Are they pretty much harmless though?

grapfruit replied: Snakes make you puke?

redchief replied:
They're not venomous. They eat rodents and other small animals. They would rather not deal with two legged mammals. wink.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: emlaugh.gif to much here Monica
My Dad use to drag snakes home all the time to us
He did the same to my Mom many of times just to get her goat

luvmykids replied:
They are also known to kill rattlers, which is good, because we have those too.

And yes, I puke and usually hyperventilate at the sight of snakes. I don't even have a chance to try to talk myself down, it's automatic for me, like a reflex. It happens before I even realize it's happening.

Crystalina replied: I like snakes! Before my dad ran off with that other woman when I was 3 (I have issues laugh.gif ) he had a boa for a pet. I've never been afraid of them. DH on the other hand turns into a screaming girl when he sees one. emlaugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied: AHHHHHHHHHH ohmy.gif

cameragirl21 replied: i love snakes, except for the way they kill, they kill their prey slowly and i hate that. but if they were vegetarians, i'd love to have one.
lol, i mentioned that to a friend of mine the other day because as some of you may recall, i found a snake in my house the other day, it followed me in and my friend was like huh.gif "have you ever SEEN a snake's face? how could something with THAT face ever be a vegetarian?"
i'd never thought of it that way.
or course, they are also not much fun as pets because they don't really do much. i love the way they move though, they are SO graceful.
btw, sorry about what happened to you, Monica, i didn't realize you were that strongly affected by snakes. i am very afraid of heights but i've never felt like throwing up but rather i tend to feel like the floor under me is dropping out, i also get weak at the knees.
i remember feeling like i was going to throw up when the word "tumor" was mentioned by a vet with regard to my cat. i think it is an automatic stress reaction, like fight or flight.

Kaitlin'smom replied: ohmy.gif wow, while I dont have a problem with snakes I would not be so excited to find one on the back porch.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: You know Mon...a snake shot pellet in Dh's booty will not cause any lasting damage! I mean of course if he was just an accidental casualty of you shooting at the snake! rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif

We have had several rattlers in the hay and behind the house (the guys have found them) thankfully none at the house ohmy.gif I would cry and stay inside laugh.gif I know they are there so it is ALWAYS in the back of my mind and I have been wearing boots since the Helgamite incident anyway blink.gif rolling_smile.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

You must be a real life Dr. Dolittle or Pied Piper! I have never had a snake follow me..or a chicken for that matter...YOu may be in the wrong business. Maybe you should have a show on Discovery...The Animal Whisperer rolling_smile.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
i posted about this last week (i think) to Tara because she said she'd die if she found a snake in her house. i was just walking in the door and i looked behind me and i see a snake slithering in behind him. it was a small snake, only about a foot long and idk what kind but it was all black with a red stripe across its neck. i have a very lush garden with lots of foliage and vegetation around my house so the snake was probably hiding in there and idk why it followed me in. when i reached down to pick it up, it turned around and slithered right back out the door. laugh.gif
as for the chicken i spoke of, it didn't follow me, i found it while walking in my neighborhood...chickens do NOT live in this neighborhood so it was totally out of place so i knew something was up...took three of us (me and 2 people who lived by where i found it) to catch it and then i brought it to a friend who owns a farm.
i saw my chicken the other day when i went up to my friend's farm, i named her Daisy. wub.gif
animals do like me though; it's a mutual thing as you can see.

holley79 replied:
I have never been scared of snakes either. If I wasn't expecting it though it would probably catch me off gaurd. emlaugh.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

Is this a new chicken? I was speaking of the rooster/chicken...I thought you found him while you were driving...If you found 2 chickens I think you should see someone about what that could mean...it must have some sort of meaning if chickens are coming to you for help! rolling_smile.gif wink.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
no, no new chicken...the rooster turned hen i found when i was walking home. in my neighborhood there is a business district (sort of, for lack of a better term) where there are stores and upscale restaurants, etc. i walked there and on my walk back, i saw the chicken in the middle of the road, about to get hit by a car and i ran out to stop the car and shoo the chicken off the road (it wasn't eager to move and save its own life).
i have not found another chicken but if i did i would start to think something is going on because like i said, my neighborhood is not a place where people keep chickens.
lol, there is a hare krishna temple right by where i found that chicken...they are vegetarians so i thought maybe it was their chicken, like a pet, they love animals and one of their guys walked out of the temple as we were trying to catch the chicken and i asked him if they keep chickens on their temple grounds and he was like huh.gif ...guess not, eh?
that snake was too little to scare me...now if it had been a huge cobra, i too might have hit the ground, hard.

holley79 replied:
I could so see your calves doing this. rolling_smile.gif

We use to have a mini that my grandfather rescued who thought it was appropriate to come into the house. I thought it was great. My granny didn't because then the hardwood floors needed to be redone. rolling_smile.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: I think he's cute! tongue.gif

My mom has a 7 foot blacksnake that spends the winters in her basement...

MommyToAshley replied: YIKES!!!! I would have lost my breakfast as well... OMG, I almost lost lunch looking at the pic. I am petrified of snakes!!!!

Mommy2BAK replied: Ahh Monica!! That is a little scary!!! ohmy.gif laugh.gif

luvmykids replied:
I'll add that to the long list of things I'm considering for revenge rolling_smile.gif I NEVER go further than the porch without boots on....that sucker is still in the trashcan on the porch because DH wants to let him loose in the feed shed tonight to kill mice. I said don't even THINK about asking me to feed then. EVER laugh.gif

And Jennifer, I think it is a stress reaction....I don't for a split second think about any of it, it just happens. I may have to try some hypnotherapy or something because DH's plan for getting me over my fear is NOT working laugh.gif
