Getting excited! - Big Boy Bed coming today

KingMom wrote: Colin's big boy bed (toddler bed) is coming today. We ordered it online, I'll post a link below, let me know what you think.

I'm excited b/c that means I can move all the nursery furniture to the baby girl's room and feel that much more prepared and I'll share a pic once we've gotten it all set up.

I'm very nervous though how Colin will do?! I'm a wreck just thinking about it. My DH is home until Friday night (then he works 4 nights straight) and it's all up to me! I hope I get some sleep over the weekend.

Rae PM'd me some great advice on transitioning to the bed, but anyone else that has suggestions, please share them. As I said, I'm a wreck just thinking about what the night will be like.

Oh and if anyone else is looking into toddler beds, this company has been great so far. I found an online coupon code and saved a little money and it has free shipping. Also, they said the expected delivery date at the time of purchase was June 9 and we are getting it today, over a week early.

C&K*s Mommie replied: No advice, really. My philosophy is to make the transition and be patient.

Nice bed, btw! happy.gif

KUP on how well he does.

TheOaf66 replied: the transition for my son was quite simple, the best thing I recommend is let them put whatever stuffed animals etc they want on there so they can make it their own area. They may fall out a time or two so i would put a pillow beside the bed other than that I think it is a good change.

KingMom replied: how old were your children when you made the transition?

CantWait replied: Best of luck on the transition. Let us know how it goes tonight.

mom2tripp replied: Whitney, the bed is precious thumb.gif I think he will do fine, even if it takes some time I think Colin will love his new bed, let me know!!!

AlexsPajamaMama replied: That is a really cool bed!! I love that it has that storage underneath!

My only advise it to...ya like most everything with them...stay consistant. Come up with bed time "rituals" that stay the same every night so he knows bed time is bed time and thats that. Good luck Whitney! But don't stress k!! It might not be easy the first couple of nights, and thats ok! The newness of it will wear off and he will get the hang out going to bed in a big boy bed real soon!! hug.gif

TheOaf66 replied: i think Tanner was about 2, he just got to big for his crib

Boo&BugsMom replied: It was just before Tanner's 2nd b-day. We didn't buy him a toddler bed though. Just went straight to a twin size bed, only to save the cost of having to buy a toddler bed then a twin size bed later on. I like the bed in the link a lot!!! If we had bought a toddler bed I would have loved to get one like that, especially since it has lots of storage under the bed. Those are the best! Toddler beds are also a lot lower to the ground so falling out isn't that bad. We made the mistake of not buying a railing with Tanner's twin bed, and he fell out and hit the hardwood floor a couple times. After doing it twice though, he never did it again. I felt like such a horrible mommy though blush.gif .

One thing that may help is having him pick out his own sheets and stuff for his bed. Anything to let him make it his own is a good idea.

ashtonsmama replied: How fun! Hope he sleeps in it!

KingMom replied: WELL, his bed came in and we put it together tonight before we put Colin down and it had a scratch on it. So before we start letting him use it, I've emailed the company to see how they want to handle this. So, looks like we won't be putting him the new bed until Tuesday night when Keith will be home again and off of nights for 12 days.

Oh well wink.gif

Just gives me longer to clean out the dresser he is getting since I have it in the spare room (soon to be nursery) with pics and clothes. I'll keep you posted. Until then if you anyone has any more suggestion, please post them!

Celestrina replied: another thing to expect: he will climb out occasionly simply because he can. When Ben did this he would usually climb back in. Sometimes he would fall asleep in the process:
